Dearest Family,
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CLAIRE ON THURSDAY
THE 26TH!!! I hope you have a WONDERFUL "39th" birthday Claire and I
wish I could thnk of an appropriate gift to give you in thanks for all
the DVD help you have given to all of us. I appreciate all the discs
you have made for me as I am becoming better acquainted with my digital
camera - I am now making scrapbooks at Bob's suggestion instead of
scanning the pictures. I am SO happy we have such an accomplished
photographer in our family who will spend time taking excellent pictures
at all our activities - THANK YOU CLAIRE & HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
John - THANK YOU for your phone call. I am
enjoying my "picture" SO VERY MUCH - I was happy to see a missionary
picture of Elder Madsen giving a talk at one of our zone conferences, a
picture of Wantana and me in Bangkok and also a picture of "Aunt Maud"
who used to tend Roy when I went to teach in Phoenix. It's amazing how
I see different things each time I look at it - I had a friend come in
last night to look at it and he kept asking me how it was done and my
standard reply was "I don't have the faintest idea"!!!! John told me
they are planning a subdivision East of our $4.76 acres plot and they
need a boundary agreement between our properties. I'll send you what I
have tomorrow and then I'll see if I can get a larger "printout" soon.
Cheryl had a very large printout so I know they are available.
I went to Salt Lake last Tuesday to spend
some time with Don on his 76th brithday. I took a picture of Don &
Cheryl and then Cheryl took a picture of Don & Me the day they came to
have lunch with me on my birthday in December. Claire put the pictures
onto a disc so I had them printed and then I found a cute double frame
for them and took that to Don. I'm not sure he comprehended what it was
but I put it on his little table in his room so it will be a
conversation piece for his visitors. I also took him a flannel shirt
and he said "thank you" so he was aware of that gift. He looks just
wonderful and much younger than anyone else in the rest home. Cheryl
will be home from Hawaii this week I think.
I stopped in Highland to "visit" John's home
after I left Salt Lake and threw some balls to Tar. John's horses were
in the field but I didn't see his little kittens. I love to go to
John's home - he always has such good treats - I know where he keeps his
candy bowl and his "toffee". Then I went to Lehi and I was SO happy to
see the new gate at the farm - it looks SO much better!!! Stan Lewis
has cows in both parcels of land - ours and Dons. I also went by the
building lot next to Aunt Marvel's home and you wouldn't believe the
"deep" holes the kids have dug to make their bicycle ramps more fun. I
was concerned about how the neighbors would feel so I went to the
Broadbent's store. The lady who lives in Aunt Marvel's home is the
daughter of the lady who owns and manages that store so I asked her how
Karen felt about it. She said, "She is happy about it because it is her
son who is digging those holes and riding his bicycle there". She said
to not worry about it. They are hoping the city will build something
like that where the swimming pool has been because they are moving the
swimming pool further West. If you are ever in Lehi and have time you
all need to go to the Broadbent store - IT IS REALLY UNIQUE!!! They
have taken the fireplace out and made LOTS of changes but it is VERY
nice. There was a lady there cutting quilting pieces and I thought that
was something you wouldn't find in most stores.
I also went to the cemetery in Lehi - it was
Aunt Marvel's birthday the day after Dons. I was going to "wrap" the
trees by Lynn's marker but they actually looked better than before so I
decided to wait and see if they survive this Winter and then I'll
fertilizer them in the Spring.
I went to Willard on Wednesday to get my
hair cut and those of you who live in Davis County may remember the big
snowstorm we had that day. It was cloudy when I left Farmington that
morning but on the way home from Willard I ran into the biggest snow
storm of the season - it was a complete "whiteout" and I was happy to
get home. I had my DUP meeting about an hour after I got home and I
hoped they would cancel it but they didn't - the two "Old"ladies I
usually take decided to not go so I went by myself to this home on main
street in Farmington and it was REALLY snowing. When I got to the
lady's home I saw her son out shoveling snow - Glen Leonard - he has
been director of the Church Museum in Salt Lake besides being a Stake
President (Jean & Ricks' Stake) and I didn't recognize him all bundled
up in snow clothes. He stayed outside for the two hours we were in our
meeting so he could help all the old ladies to their cars and it was a
good thing because one lady was on crutches. I sometimes think we
don't use very good sense. Allene Leonard who is 91 years old had made
the most delicious mince apple pies with caramel and whipped cream
topping for our dessert.
I have been trying to find out how I am
related to "Richard Lyman Bushman" and spent two hours at the Family
History Center in Afton, Wyoming a week ago but to no avail. I opened
my "Genealogy Box" the other day and saw my "Bushman Book" and there it
was. Now I need to find out how his parents are connected to Sarah Ann
Bushman, my great grandmother and that shouldn't be too hard. Claire
has been reading his latest book and she likes it.
Brett - I'm proud of you for helping roof a
member's home in Brazil. Your Dad, Roy & John did that for a member's
home in Little Rock one time. Did you get the Church News that
highlighted the MTC in Brazil? It's funny how sometimes journalists
paint a prettier picture of things than they really are - especially in
the Church News - Ha!!!!! Your folks say you are doing just GREAT and I
know you are. I don't understand why you would get 6 of my newsletters
at one time - they were all mailed one week apart!!!!
WHAT ABOUT THE SUDOKU PUZZLE FRENZY???? I
wish I had spent more time learning from Roy & Jesse when they were with
me at Christmas time. They were deeply engrossed in these puzzles but
they looked too complicated for me. Chris Jordin called me the other
night and said she was REALLY enjoying working on them. There was an
article in our paper about them so they must be very popular. It was
fun to talk to Chris - we talked about how much Marc enjoyed doing
needlepoint and cross-stitch!!!
We have a couple in our ward that likes to
spend time with "old people"!!!! They invited me and a neighbor to go
to a movie and dinner with them last night. I got to choose the movie
so I said my son and daughter-in-law recommended "Pride & Prejudice". I
was relieved that it was SO good and we all enjoyed it very much - have
you all seen it???? THEN we went to a Mexican Restaurant for dinner and
it was fun. This couple has been remodeling their home for at least
three years and it is far from finished - it backs up to the Oakridge
Country Club and is REALLY out of place because it is absolutely HUGE on
a very small lot. I didn't want them to spend money on us last night
because I believe the reason their home isn't finished is because they
have run out of money but they insisted. They have 7 children - they're
all married but they wanted to have a place for them to come home for
dinner each week - THEY COULD HAVE OUR ENTIRE WARD FOR DINNER IN THEIR
HOME - Ha!!!!
Jessie - thank you for your letter. I hope
you get feeling better. There have been MANY absences from the temple
workers and also in my condo village but I just NEVER get sick!!! WHAT
A GREAT BLESSING.
I really don't have any news. Jeannie &
Rick have been in Tucson this last week enjoying the warm weather. I
believe they came home last night. it's GREAT to have Ricky home to "
take care of things".
Margaret, Patt and I usually celebrate our
birthdays together - Margaret's birthday is in October and Patt and mine
are in December but we didn't ever get time to do it so we planned to
have dinner at the Oakridge Country Club last Thursday. Patt got sick
so she couldn't be with us but Margaret and I had a good time. Margaret
knows alot of people there so we ended up spending about three hours to
have lunch - TOO LONG FOR ME!!!!
I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.
PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
