Dearest Family,
It is our Stake Conference today so I don't
go to church until 2 o'clock this afternoon - SO I will write my letter
this morning. I went to our adult meetings last night - Margaret had
been asked to give the prayer so I went with her. I don't believe I
have ever been to the night meeting since moving to Davis County and I
REALLY enjoyed it. It was fun to see so many of my former friends who
are in different wards now and I always enjoy President Elgren's talks -
down to earth talks like Lynn used to give!!!
I asked Margaret to go by Boyd & Barjis'
home last night after our meeting because our Stake Center is close to
where "I thought" they lived. We drove and we drove but I never could
find it - it was dark and I'll have to go by myself sometime in the
daylight. Their home is in a very large housing development so Margaret
understood.
Jessie - I REALLY appreciate your visit last
Thursday!!! My tulips are SO pretty right now and since my magnolia
tree didn't ever bloom down low it was the right time to take a picture
of Jessie in my wedding dress. She was SO sweet and arranged her time
to come in the afternoon. My camera wasn't working like it usually does
and Jessie told me my battery was low so I was VERY worried that the
pictures wouldn't turn out. I took them in for the 1-hour developing
on Friday morning and was relieved to find they are VERY, VERY good. My
dress is about two sizes too large for Jessie but she looks beautiful in
it anyway. It was a fun afternoon for me - we went to "Tasties" for a
sandwich. Jessie told me about their trip to Arizona to "investigate"
the law school at Tempe - they still haven't decided for sure where they
will go but I was thrilled to learn they are seriously considering the
University of Utah as well as Arizona State University. She told me
that Jackson and Caroline both had colds while she was there. It made
me happy for her to tell me that Jackson doesn't like her - Ha!!! It
made me happy because Preston doesn't like me - Ha!!! She loved being
with Susanna & Steve in their darling home in Chandler and she said
Caroline is an angel.
Annie & Ron - Thank you for such an
enjoyable evening on Friday. The North Davis Stake Special Needs Mutual
put on their annual program in which Mimi participates and it was just
WONDERFUL. It was two hours long so you know how many participants they
had in it. They had different themes and then the young men & women
dressed in costumes to fit the themes and put on little programs. Mimi
was in the "Hero" program and I still can't believe what a good dancer
she is - she didn't miss a beat and her part was very long. It was a
thrill to see her SO happy and do so well and her red costume was
darling. Ron treated all of us to ice cream at Baskin & Robbins after
the program. I admire those GREAT mutual leaders and Sue Grondahl told
me they really love their callings. It was fun to be with Annie & Ron.
Mimi is such a sweet and appreciative young woman!!!
Bob, Claire & Jeannie - Thank you SO much
for all your help and support for my medical procedure on Wednesday.
Jeannie took me to the surgical center, Claire picked me up and Bob
visited with me - everyone at the center loves all of them and they
really gave me the VP treatment. That has to be the nicest thing I have
ever experienced in the medical field - IT WAS A PIECE OF CAKE!!! I
believe we have all been "bombarded" with advertisements about having
the "C" procedure and after Rick & Jean had it and said it wasn't bad I
decided to "bite the bullet" and get it done. I can watch those
advertisements on television now and not feel guilty - I hope each one
of you will have it done when you are old enough!!!
John - thank you for your phone calls. He
said he has had alot of strong winds in Highland - we usually have alot
in Farmington but I have either slept through them or we haven't had
them. John - I read in the Church News that your former employer in
Billings is the new Stake President there - Spencer Griffin. He is
listed as the owner and operator of "Griffin Automotive Enterprise Inc."
and that surely brings back a flood of memories. John applied for a job
with them soon after we moved to Billings and then he spent almost three
years "detailing" cars which involved getting the snow off cars in car
parking lots all over Billings in freezing weather. Bro. Griffin was an
assistant to Lynn in the Montana Billings Mission and he is a fine man -
he also gave LOTS of laundry soap for the Mission Home - Ha!!!
John went to a fireside at BYU with Ann &
Ron and their family last Sunday - he really enjoyed it.
Roy & Patrice - I was SO happy to find out
from Ron that he spent some time with you in January when he was in
Little Rock on business. I knew that Roy was planning to meet with him
but then I never did hear if that happened. Ron told me that you took
him past Central High School and other places and he LOVES your home!!!
I miss Little Rock!!!
I have finally ordered my new windows. I
decided to go with "Peachtree Doors & Windows" - they seemed to offer
all the things I was interested in. I have ordered a nice security door
and that is probably extravagant but it will give me light in that part
of my living room and still give me security. I already have a good one
but I can't lock it with a key so I don't leave it open unless I'm
downstairs. I keep trying to convince myself that I have done the right
thing. It will take six weeks before they are installed. I had five
bids and I didn't save any money by deciding on Peachtree but I believe
I will be happier with their windows.
Jeannie had a VERY happy birthday
yesterday. She and Rick went with their children to Snow Basin on a
skiing trip. We have had such warm weather that I am surprised they
could go snow skiing - Jeannie said some of the people were skiing in
their bathing suits. They all went to "The Matador" for dinner last
night and she said she and Rick were exhausted - Ha!!! Jeannie said the
resort people from Sun Valley, Idaho have purchased Snow Basin and the
resort is similar to the ones in Sun Valley which is very good.
Annie reminded me that the tulip festival at
Thanksgiving Point is April 28th. She had told me about it before but
since my tulips have been blooming for a week or so I thought maybe she
had decided to not go. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT!!!
I believe Claire & Katie are going to
California during Spring Break this week to visit Claire's brother and
his family. Maybe Bob will join them during the week? Claire has been
involved in a "Hill Cumorah" program in their stake - she has been video
taping it. Ellen Mae & Mel went to it on Wednesday & Thursday nights
and they said it was just fabulous. There is SO much talent in this
area and they are putting on many programs to commemorate the 200th
birthday of Joseph Smith and the 175th birthday of the church
organization.
Annie reports that Aunt Ramona is doing
quite well in the
"Assisting Living" place but her memory is not what it used to be - she
is approaching her 91st birthday. I need to go see her. I can't
imagine what my memory will be like when I am her age - she is
remarkable!!!
I believe that is all the news. I LOVE EACH
ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN
EVERYTHING YOU DO. Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
