Weekly Report April 10, 2005

Dearest Family,

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSIE TOMORROW. SHE WILL BE 25 YEARS OLd!!!  Jessie has surely accomplished alot in her life and she will continue this same ambitious life style - she & Jared have exciting plans for their future and I'm very proud of them!!!  I hope the weather turns nice soon so Jessie can come pose for a picture in my 60 year old wedding dress - my magnolia blossoms didn't ever turn out pretty.

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JEANNIE ON SATURDAY!!!   SHE WILL BE THIRTY-SOMETHING!!!    Jeannie has surely accomplished alot in her life too and I'm veyr proud of her.  She told me she wanted to go skiing with her family and if the weather predictions are true she will be able to do that.  I hope she will be able to go skiing and have a WONDERFUL day!!!!

I just came home from the temple - temple workers are required to go on Sundays twice a year for special training and this was my day.  I can't quite figure it out but the minute I sit down I go to sleep - I think it's because I have sat through it SO many times and it doesn't hold my attention.  I have already had my nap for the day - Ha!!!

I have thought about Michael all week as I have watched some of the proceedings of Pope John Paul's funeral.  Michael spent two years in Italy and saw so many of the places where the funeral took place and I'm sure it was more interesting to him than those of us who haven't been there.  The Bob Mellors went there as a family too so it has been a special time for them.

This has been a VERY special week for the Bob Mellor family.  Brett went to the temple on Saturday for the first time and Katie had her big prom that night.  THEY HAVE BEEN BUSY!!!

The temple was fun for me on Saturday.  Those of you who are familiar with the temple will be able to relate to all this.  A sister who was in the initiatory came to find me and said "A sister is in initiatory with your last name".  Claire had told me that Brett was going to be in the temple on Saturday so I hurried to try to find her.  I just missed her so I rushed to the chapel and couldn't find any of their family there either.  One of the sisters with whom I work came to tell me she had seen Bob at the hospital on Friday - a doctor was doing surgery on one of her relatives and she said Bob came in often to check on her.  THEN I found out this sister would be in the session with Bob, Claire & Brett so I told her to watch out for them.  As it turned out, I knew where they would be about 8:30 and I waited so I could give Brett a hug.  I hope I didn't embarress him - I just couldn't resist.  He looked completely overwhelmed and I hope it was a happy day for him.

Katie - I understand that Davis High School had their prom at the University of Utah last night.  I am anxious to hear how your dress turned out and everthing else.  My visiting teaching companion and I had a luncheon yesterday for those sisters we visit.  One of them has a son at Davis High and she is a waitress at Christopher's restaurant in Salt Lake so her son and his date and other friends were going to have their dinner there and have her wait on them.  I believe that is quite admirable - I think if I wanted one of my children to come to the restaurant where I worked they would go the opposite way - Ha!!!

John - thank you SO much for attending the West Canyon Property Owner's annual meeting last week.  I appreciate SO much having John go to those meetings to keep in touch with everything going on.  The people in charge of those meetings REALLY like John and of course that makes me happy and it's important they know we are "on top of things"!!!  John told me the owners were concerned about "over-populating" the canyon with cows and he said there were alot of wild animals there, like cougars, etc. - SCARY!!!   I appreciate John meeting with our new attorney too last week.  This man's office is close to that of Wilkinsons in Provo and John has worked with his law firm for a long time in his businesses.

We had a Lamanite (Indian) sister from North Dakota come on our Mission in Montana.  She was quite large and had a BIG hairdo and I was a little worried about how she would "fit in" with the other sisters.  When she left the mission she had lost at least 100 pounds and had her hair cut really short and she was just beautiful and very, very happy.  She left the mission before we did and she looked up our home in Lehi and wrote to tell us how much she liked it - I hadn't heard from her since that time, almost 20 years ago.  I received the sweetest e-mail from her last week - she had found my address on the Montana web site.  She is in her second marriage and she has lost a little baby girl when she was about 4 years old.  She is now married to a "fairly affluent" man and they live in New Zealand and she has a daughter who is about 20 years old and it sounds like she is a VERY talented young woman.  She is preparing to go into the New Zealand's Drama University which is comparable to Julliard in New York.
I am SO thrilled for Sister Hawk - she writes that the "Pacific Island people are always smiling, singing.....it is truly a paradise" - different from the reservations!!!

One of my dearest friends and former neighbors in Orem died last week - Afton Christensen.  She and her husband, Dean have been in an "assisted living center" at the Courtyard in Jamestown, Provo for the last three years.  I had thought about going for her viewing on Friday night since I couldn't go to the funeral on Saturday morning but I read a condolence message on the mortuary website from one of their friends and this friend said she was so sad because Dean didn't know who she was - I decided that if he wouldn't know who I was there wasn't much sense in going to the viewing.  Another friend here in Farmington is in the hospital suddenly - she is the one I was going to get a card table for to do her genealogy and now she is unresponsive in the hospital!!!

I am in the "window business" - I know all there is to know about windows!!!!  I had ordered new windows because I can't open mine very easily and they are the original ones put in when the condos were built.  I called Bob to see what he thought about the cost of them and he & Claire suggested I get more bids.  They have neighbors who just had the kind put in that you can open from the inside to clean them and they wanted me to see about having that kind.  That company is called "Advance" and they came out to demonstrate their windows but they don't make them in brown and because of the condo association I have to have brown.  The man who came to demonstrate happens to live very close to our property in Lehi and we had such a good time visiting about that.  He was SO nice and wanted to help me so he called many other window companies and now I have people coming every day - Ha!!!!

Did you all watch Prince Charles & Camilla's wedding - I LOVED seeing all the hats.  I'm wondering how much of that fashion will come into the United States.  Some of them were very weird but I liked Camilla's "feather hat".  I LIKE HATS!!!!

SPRING IS HERE!!!  I have beautiful tulips in my front yard - my daffodils didn't bloom this year.  I called the county gardening agency and they said that was unusual but could be blamed on too much nitrogen in the soil - I didn't fertilize them so I'll blame it on the condo gardeners.

I stopped in to visit Helen Jane after getting my permanent last week.  She said they are holding their breath that they won't get a hard "freeze" this Spring.  Helen Jane & her sons and their families depend on their fruit crops for their livelihood - she said it is the same very year - when it freezes everything is lost and when the weather is good they have WONDERFUL peaches, etc. and they have a good living.  My Father used to worry about losing his cherries and peaches in the same way but he didn't depend on it for his livelihood.

I think that's all the news.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERTHING YOU DO.
Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
