Dearest Family,
CONGRATULATIONS TO SARAH AND GREG ON THEIR
ENGAGEMENT!!! I was SO thrilled to have them come to my condo to tell
me about it and to show me Sarah's gorgeous engagement ring. I didn't
really expect them to have an answer when I asked them if they had set
the date and was surprised when they said, "Yes, it's going to be July
28th". Sarah told me yesterday they had chosen that date because that
would be the 5th anniversary of Barji & Boyds' wedding. That makes it
SO special. I REALLY like Greg and it has been good to become
acquainted with him at our family get-togethers during the holidays.
I'm anxious to get the pictures that are still in my camera of the time
we were all at John's home when Roy, Timothy & Jesse were here - I think
I have pictures of Greg & Sarah and if I do I will send them to the Roy
Mellors so Patrice & Emily will be able to see what he looks like. I
hope I have pictures of Jessie & Jared too of that time when we were
together. I know they have pictures of them in their wedding
announcement.
WHAT A FUN WEEK I HAVE HAD!!! I went to a
bridal shower for Jessie in Provo on Friday afternoon. Annie's friends
and neighbors gave it for her and it was held at Steven Covey's home -
Sandra Covey is a good friend of Ann. I have admired that home from the
road for many years and I couldn't figure out how to get to it until Ann
told me. It was SO fun for me to be with Annie's friends again - I used
to see them quite often when I lived in Orem but I haven't seen them for
a long time. Jessie was absolutely beautiful and she received many
lovely gifts. I wish I could describe adequately one wall of the
Covey's family room - it is huge and it is just covered with framed
pictures of each member of their family. I thought I was paranoid about
pictures!!!
One of the highlights of my trip to Provo
that day was to visit with Jennifer Richards (Jared's Mom) and learn
there is a name for a "disability" I have - Ha!!! Jennifer told me that
she has "Direction Deficit Syndrome" - I think that's what it is
called. I have had it for 79 years and just learned there is a name for
it - Jennifer has it too. I thought I was just dumb because I get
"turned around" so easily and get lost!!!
Yesterday was my traditional luncheon for
the brides in our family. I have had it at the Oakridge Country Club
for Baji, Susanna, Mary Ann & Staci but they have torn that down and
will build another one but it won't be completed for another year (I
think). SO I had this one at the Lion House in Salt Lake - Jeannie
helped me make all the arrangments and I was VERY pleased with the way
it turned out. Annie took charge and she introduced everyone and the
family relationships and that was SO neat. There were 16 of us and I
loved becoming acquainted with Jared's Aunts whom I had not met Claire &
Anabel. Let me write my granddaughters who were able to be with us:
Jessie, Lee Anna, Mary Ann, Sarah, Laura and Staci. Katie had to do
something at school, Barji was out of town, and Susanna lives in
Arizona I always LOVE to be with my beautiful granddaughters and
daughters (including Claire). Jared's Mom, Sister and Grandmother were
also with us and they are lovely, lovely people. Jennifer, his Mom, is
definitely a "keeper" - she is just darling and so is Jessica, his
sister and we all love Vera, Jared's grandmother.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU CLAIRE AND
ALSO JENNIFER. It was WONDERFUL to come to my computer after church
today and find absolutely GREAT pictures of the shower in Provo that
Jennifer sent and the pictures of the luncheon that Claire sent. You
know me and how much I love pictures and it thrills me to find that
Jennifer loves them too and she is a good photographer. I take my
camera but I get too nervous and don't take very many any more. I
LOVED the family pictures you sent too Claire - I can't tell you how
happy it makes me to see your family having fun playing "table games".
That is the only regret I have about my life with my family - I LOVE
card games and Lynn HATED them so we didn't ever play them. I had to
laugh at what John said the other day - he said "I didn't know that work
was only five days a week until I got a job - Dad always worked six or
seven". He either fished or worked - Ha!!! I have REALLY enjoyed
playing games with Timothy & Jesse through the years and when they were
here last month I tried to teach them a card game but I had forgotten
how to play it - I will learn before I am with them again - i promise!!!
I bore my testimony in church this morning
and said how grateful I am for the technology that has given us the
internet for genealogy. I remember when we used to have to wait at
least a week before we got any pictures of important events and now we
only have to wait a few hours and they are SO good. I have also been
thrilled to find out more about the plane crash that took the life of my
brother Bob during World War 11. Peter Murray, our contact in Australia
has sent me many letters filled with interesting information about that
time. The internet has made my life SO interesting besides SO
educational. Peter has such detailed information about EVERYTHING. He
has also sent many pictures but I don't print them. I think he will end
up writing a book about the crash but in the meantime I am printing his
letters to keep for "family history" and I have had them copied and sent
to Cheryl & Don.
SUSANNA - I have loved your letters on the
internet and it pleases me SO much to know you are interested in
learning about my brother Bob Forrest. We missed you at the luncheon
and we're looking forward to being with you at the wedding. I hope your
family has recuperated from the "bug" you have had - I hate to think
about Jackson and Caroline being sick. We all envy your beautiful
weather - we're supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow and if we do
it will be the first snow we have had in Farmington for many weeks.
MARY ANN - I loved finding your letter on
the computer today too. It was SO good to see you yesterday at the
luncheon. I don't quite understand how all my granddaughters can stay
SO thin - you look WONDERFUL. I'm SO glad you had so much fun with
David's family on a vacation to Disneyland - they're GREAT people.
JOHN - Thank you for your phone calls. One
of his friends with whom he has worked since moving to Utah had a heart
attack last week. He is also a friend of Ann & Ron. His name is J.T.
but I don't know his last name. He is 44 years old and has four
daughters and is a very lucky man to have his heart condition taken care
of in time. He became ill and had his wife take him to the Timpanogas
Hospital where he received the treatment he needed and is fine now BUT
will change his diet - John said his cholesterol was very high. I hope
you are all having your cholesterol checked often - the Mellor family
has a history of heart problems and high cholesterol. I stopped in at
John's home in Highland after the shower in Provo and it was SO fun to
see Tar and throw some balls for him - he is such a good dog!!! I just
love John's home.
I appreciated Bob, Claire, Jean & Rick
coming over last Sunday but I surely won't blame them if they don't come
tonight. IT'S THE SUPER BOWL TODAY!!! The newspapers in Utah have had
alot of news about Coach Reid - he played and coached at BYU and of
course all the people I have talked to want his team to win. I know
absolutely nothing about either team. I believe he coaches the
Philadelphia team.
I had a funny experience last week. I took
my Subaru in for a checkup and they told me that since I had received
one new tire fairly recently I would have to have three more or the new
one would ruin my transmission. The man told me to not drive it very
far until I got the three new tires so I took it into the Big O tire
place on Friday morning and several of their workers looked at the tires
and then said "Don't worry about it". I don't know who to believe. I
think it has something to do with it being 4-wheel drive. I have
decided to just drive it as usual and if it ruins my transmission I will
just get a new car - it's probably time anyway!!!
That's all the news - I think. I LOVE EACH
ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN
EVERYTHING YOU DO. Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
