Dearest Family,
THE SUN IS SHINING!!!! It seems like an
eternity since we have had a pretty day. I LOVE Winter and snow but we
haven't even had snow in Farmington, just fog and haze!!! Jeannie had
sent me an e-mail telling me about their trip to Sun Valley where they
had beautiful bright days and she said "it was just like medicine" AND I
agree!!! It seems SO funny to read about all the snow in Cache Valley
and that is only about 30 miles away.
Margaret invited me to go to Park City to
get away from all the "weather dreariness" and to also be there for the
Sundance Film Festival so we went on Wednesday and then came home
Thursday afternoon and we had such a good time. We tried to act like
famous people as we walked up and down Main Street hoping someone would
ask for our autographs but that didn't happen - Ha!!! There was LOTS of
action on Main Street with some very "different" looking people but we
don't think we saw anyone famous. That is surely a "happening place"
and SO different from most places in Utah - I have always liked Park
City and if I had had my way we would have a condominium there. Lynn
didn't like it one bit - too far away from good fishing spots. You
wouldn't believe all the building going on there. There weren't any
buildings in back of Margaret's condo for many years and now the hills
are exploding with HUGE homes and condos - she has a beautiful place and
her children all take turns going there.
We drove all around the "skiing" spots and I
thought about Roy, Timothy & Jesse. There were LOTS of people on the
hills skiing and snowboarding and MANY children about their ages. There
were even younger children whose parents held them on their skiis and it
was fun to watch. Maybe some year the Roy Mellors will want to change
places and go there - it really isn't very far from Grandma Bs.
I have thought about Jessie Woolley the last
couple days. She and Jared were going for their wedding photos and she
tripped on a sprinkler head and sprained her ankle. They thought it was
broken but after x-rays they found it was a bad sprain so she is on
crutches for a little while. I'm SO glad it wasn't broken - hopefully
she won't be "hopping around" on her wedding day!!! Sandra Covey is
having a neighborhood shower for her this Friday and I'm looking forward
to going to it. I want to be with Jessie and I also want to see the
Covey home - I have admired it from the street for many years (I'll
probably just see a small part of it but that will be enough).
Barji has been frantically working on the
college correspondence course she has been taking this last semester -
her papers were due on Friday and I believe she finished them. She has
surely been diligent in completing that course and I'm proud of her. I
took one correspondence course many years ago and I decided that was a
difficult way to go to college BUT IT IS WORTH IT. I believe she only
has three more classes to go.
I was thrilled to have Sarah and her
friend/boy Greg come over last night and visit with me. I LOVE it when
my grandchildren come on their own like that. They make such a
beautiful couple and enjoy being together. Sarah told me about her
college classes and she especially enjoys the "sign language" class she
is taking. They are taking a class together - METEOROLOGY - that was a
surprise for me but they said it filled a science group. Greg served
his mission in Mexico and it was fun to have him tell about all the
temples and missions in that country - I want the people in Thailand to
have a temple in their country - they have to go to Hong Kong now.
Bob & Claire came over last Sunday and I
appreciated that SO much. They are SO busy with their family and church
activities and I would surely understand if they can't make it. Brett
had been home - he has put his mission papers in so it won't be long
before he knows where he will serve - EXCITING!!! I would like for him
to go to either Montana or Thailand but he will be happy no matter where
he is called.
I also appreciate John's phone calls. He
said he had a flat tire on his tractor and he had to take it in to be
fixed - how could he get a flat tire in that immaculate barn????? He is
fine and BUSY!!! Margaret was wearing a "Lance Armstrong" yellow
bracelet the other day and explained to me that it was a "cancer drive
promotional" and that it was "politically correct" to wear one. John
gave me one and I have just put it on my dresser - I will wear it more
now - THANKS JOHN!!!
Have you all followed the Democratic vote in
Iraq??? I can just hear you all saying (or at least thinking) that
Grandma B watches too much television. I am just very interested in
life and all that goes on. I surely do admire those people who would
risk their lives to go to the polls and vote - that should be a good
lesson for all Americans. The television coverage has been SO
interesting showing all the Iraqis who live in the United States going
to the polls to vote and some of them at great personal expense. The
polls are closed now and they are saying it has been a big success.
I received a letter this week that is very
interesting to me. My brother Don has received some information from a
Memorial Committee in Queensland, Australia concerning the airplane
crash that took the life of my brother Bob during World War 11. I can't
believe it happened 60 years ago and I haven't known any of the details
until I received this letter that Cheryl sent to me. I had heard his
plane crashed because the plane lost engine power and not because of
enemy fire but that's all I knew. I hesitate corresponding with the man
who sent this letter because I know they will want money to fund the
memorial but I may do it anyway. I am going to scan this letter to send
to you - some of you will be interested and some of you won't but you
will just need to delete it. I hope it won't cause you any problems
with your computers.
That's all the news - I think. I LOVE EACH
ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN
EVERYTHING YOU DO. Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
