Weekly Report August 1, 2004

Dearest Family,

The BIG news for this week is the wedding of Michael & Staci on Friday morning.  I hope I can keep Thursday and Friday straight - I have never been to a wedding reception before the wedding but I think it is a GREAT idea!!!  I also think having the wedding at 7 a.m. is WONDERFUL - in Bountiful it would be the first wedding of the day and all the workers will be ready to help you and the temple won't be SO crowded.  I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO EVERYTHING AND I KNOW IT WILL BE JUST PERFECT.  I am SO happy they have such a nice condominium to move into after their marriage.

I keep thinking of all the times Roy & Patrice came to help with our family weddings in the temples - they cared for all the children on the temple grounds AND THAT IS NOT EASY!!!  I don't believe we will ever forget their unselfish help.  I accessed some pictures not long ago when Timothy & Jesse were asleep on the sofa during the wedding breakfast - they were at such difficult ages and Roy & Patrice didn't ever complain.  My grandchildren are all older now so they can take care of themselves.

Jeannie called me one day last week and said she wanted to take me shopping to find something to wear to the reception.  I told her I planned to wear the one she got for me to wear for Mary Ann & Davids' wedding - I knew there hadn't been a picture so noone would know the difference.  She said "It's the wrong color".  She had been shopping the day before and had found a lovely red sweater she wanted me to see.  It is beautiful and something I will be able to wear at other times BUT the temperature is supposed to be 98 so I will probably cook - Ha!!!  I have learned that it really doesn't matter what grandmothers wear so I'm not going to worry about it.

Susanna, Barji, Jimmy and Ron - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND LETTERS - I LOVE THEM.  I don't believe Susanna & Barji will ever be busier in their entire lives than they will be during this next year - unless they should have twins, triplets, etc., etc.  I didn't have children as close as they have and it's a good thing because I don't believe I would have been able to manage.  Taking care of active two year olds is enough without having babies that need alot of attention - they have WONDERFUL husbands who will help them and that's good!!!

Annie - thank you for keeping me informed when you leave town.  Ann & Ron went to Phoenix last week - Ron had business and they were looking forward to spending a little time with Susanna, Steve, Jackson & Caroline Ann.  I remember how hot it can be in Phoenix during the Summer but it has been mighty hot here too!!!  I hope they will be able to come to Utah before too long.

John - I keep thinking I will hear from you about coming to get your "stuff".  I know you are super busy - I wish I could help you.  I could put all your pictures in the back of my car and some other things too if you will just let me know when a good time would be.  I still haven't heard from Rodney Wilkinson - I think he has forgotten us.  I received the tax evaluation forms for the Lehi property and they are the same as last year so he hasn't changed the 26 acre deed yet.

Claire - I am anxious to see the bridesmaid dresses you have made for Laura & Katie.  I imagine it is difficult to make one for Laura when she isn't here to try it on but I know what a good seamstress you are!!!  I'm SO glad Laura is coming from Maine and it's a good thing you have many drivers in your family to get everyone where they are supposed to be on time.

We will miss those family members who can't come for the reception - Roy, Patrice, Timothy, Emily, Jesse, Susanna, Steve, Jackson, Caroline Ann, Jessie and maybe others I don't know about.  I would SO love a family picture - I got the pictures back that I took at Lake Powell and one would be perfect for Christmas cards except that John isn't in it.  OH ME!!!!

Chris left on Tuesday morning.  She wanted to take her rental car back on Monday night and she wanted to fill it with gas first.  I took her to Slim Olsens and didn't realize that was too far South to get on the feeway going to the airport - we had to go into Salt Lake to turn around and go back to Bountiful.  She probably had to put more gas in it at the airport. I feel like making a sign that says "I'm not a professional chauffeur" - my friends get into my car thinking I know where I am going - little do they know - Ha!!!  She had had a good time and I enjoyed having her.

I am consumed with the "Hacking situation" and will be SO happy when it comes to an end.  I watch the 10 o'clock news and last night they announced that the family had ended all searches for Lori Hacking and they were on their way to the police station to make a statement.  I kept television on for a long time until they said they wouldn't have any more news until the next day - I didn't sleep all night.  I found my letters that told about our family home evenings - there were 10 of us and Wayne & Mae Hacking were such dear friends.  Through those letters I found the album that had my pictures of them.  I can just imagine what heartbreak this is for Mae and the rest of their family.

The L.D.S.Church members throughout the world are saddened to learn of the death of Elder David Haight yesterday.  He was 97 years old and was remarkable in everything he did.  Elder Neal Maxwell died on July 21st so this means two apostles have died within the last week.  It has been over 10 years since an apostle has died and we will miss them.  Elder Maxwell was a favorite of Lynn - I had a difficult time understanding him.  He was 78 years old but has suffered with leukemia for many years.

THIS IS THE SECOND LETTER I HAVE WRITTEN THIS MORNING - I don't know how the first one disappeared but it did.  I have probably forgotten many things.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO

For some reason, Mom sent 2 letters on this day.  They are only slightly different.  I'm including both just in case.

Dearest Family,

The BIG news for this week's letter is the wedding of Michael & Staci - we're all SO thrilled for them!!!  I hope I can keep Thursday and Friday straight - Ha!!!  I have never attended a wedding reception before the wedding but I think it is a good idea.  I especially think the 7 a.m. time for the wedding ceremony is WONDERFUL - the temple won't be crowded and the workers will be ready for them.  That would be the first wedding of the day at the Bountiful temple - I don't know about Salt Lake.

We will miss Roy & Patrice and their family - I can't help but remember the many hours they have spent helping all of us at the temples and we REALLY appreciated them.  They took care of all the children on the temple grounds and THAT'S A JOB!!!  Those children have grown older and will be able to take care of themselves now.  We'll also miss the other family members who won't be able to come like Susanna & Steve & Jessie and maybe others.  I'm SO happy that Laura is coming from Maine - I hope her flight schedule will work out - it's a good thing they have lots of drivers in their family!!!  I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO EVERYTHING!!!

Susanna & Barji - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SWEET LETTERS.      I LOVE to hear from my grandchildren!!!  I don't believe you will ever be busier in your entire lives than you will be this next year.  I didn't have children that close together and I don't believe I would have been able to manage - IT'S A GOOD THING YOU HAVE SUCH WONDERFUL HUSBANDS!!!  It's enough to try to keep up with a two year old without having a little baby who needs SO much attention - wish I could help you.  Jimmy - I LOVED your letter too and also Rons - THANK YOU.

Jeannie called me one day this last week and wanted to help me select a dress for the reception on Thursday.  I told her I had planned to wear the one she got for me for Mary Ann & Davids' wedding - I knew there hadn't been a picture so noone would know - Ha!!!  She said "Mom, that's the wrong color"!!!  Anyway we had such a fun afternoon shopping at Dillards in Ogden.  She had gone there the day before and said she had found a red sweater that was lovely and WOULD WORK!!!  I was happy to find it and it is perfect as far as color goes but the temperature outside is supposed to be 98 and I'll probably cook - BUT that's okay!!!  The church will be cool - I HOPE!!!  I also bought a suit with a skirt that is shorter than any I have worn for a LONG time but it's pretty.

Annie - I REALLY appreciate your keeping me informed when you leave town.  Ann & Ron went to Phoenix last week where Ron had some business to take care of and they could spend some time with Susanna, Steve, Jackson & Caroline Ann.  I can just imagine how homesick you get for Jackson and little Baby Caroline Ann and I know Susanna loves it when you can be with her and Steve. I can also imagine how VERY hot it is there - OH WELL - it's mighty hot here too!!!  I continue to receive compliments on my beautiful "planter" - I LOVE IT!!!

I took Chris to the airport on Tuesday morning.  I did the dumbest thing - she had rented a car and wanted to fill it with gasoline before returning it on Monday evening.  I took her to Slim Olsen's &didn't realize I couldn't get on the freeway that goes to the airport without going way back to Bountiful - so she probably had to put more gas in it at the airport.  I feel like making a sign that says "I'm not a professional chauffeur" to wear when I have company - my friends think they can just get in the car and I will know where I am going - little do they know!!!!  She called me when she got home and said Little Rock was cooler than Utah.  She had a good time while she was here and I enjoyed having her.

I have had a good time this past week getting caught up from being busier than I like to be - I don't function very well when I get far behind in just simple things.  I have been consumed by the "Hacking situation" and last night when I was listening to the 10 o'clock news they interrupted their newsprogram saying the Hacking Family was on the way to the police station with information that would end the search for Lori Hacking.  They kept saying they would broadcast the news as soon as it became available SO I left the television on until they finally said it would be the next day before anything would be reported.  I didn't sleep ALL night long and when I got the newspaper in this morning it didn't have anything definite either.  I will be SO happy when that comes to an end.  I looked up my weekly letters to find when Lynn & I were with Mae & Wayne - that is a handy way of finding things.  THEN I went to the album at that period of time and found the good picture when there were 10 of us in our Family Home Evening Group - we loved Mae & Wayne and I can't imagine the heartbreak this is causing Mae.  I hope things will be okay but I doubt it.

Church members throughout the world are saddened to learn of the death of Elder David Haight - just about a week after the death of Elder Neal Maxwell.  Elder Haight was 97 years old and had attended Elder Maxwell's funeral last week.  I am listening to the funeral for Elder Maxwell on television now.  These deaths were not unexpected but it has been at least ten years since an apostle has died and to have two within a week of each other is unusual.  Elder Maxwell was a GREAT speaker and a favorite of Lynns - I couldn't understand him.  He was 78 years old but had endured many years of leukemia.

That's all the news - I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHIN YOU DO  - Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
