Dearest Family,

CONGRATULATIONS TO BARJI, BOYD & PRESTON!!!  The newest little "Summerhays baby girl" was born on Friday afternoon, July 9th at about 2 o'clock.  Barji - THANK YOU SO MUCH for your darling phone call - it thrilled me to hear the news from "the horse's mouth" - Ha!!!  You sounded SO good and SO happy - I wish I had been home (she left a message on my phone answering machine).  I had a message from Jeannie and she said they haven't decided on a name yet - she said the little baby had quite long dark curly hair and was like a porcelain doll and weighed 6 lbs 1 oz.  I believe Barji will come home today - Jeannie & Rick have Preston and that is the biggest help they can give to Barji & Boyd right now.  Jeannie said that Boyd is fabulous with Preston and he has so much energy that he will keep all of them busy!!!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RICKY AND JACKSON ON FRIDAY!!!  Ricky will be 25 years old and Jackson will be 2 years old - WOW.  I didn't realize their birthdays were the same day - I hope I have that right.  Ricky - "The world is your oyster" - a college degree, handsome looks, good health, great mind, etc., etc.  I'm proud of you and I hope you have a VERY happy day.  Jackson has the "best of all worlds" - doting parents & grandparents, a darling little baby sister, a perfect place to live, etc., etc.  I just got my pictures back from the time Jackson was here and WHAT A DOLL he is with more energy than I ever had - Ha!!!

I don't believe "it gets any better than this" for an old Mother who had a "desire come true" when I went to Highland with John on Thursday and saw his lovely, lovely home.  Actually, I am still in shock!!!  I received a letter from the "Planning Commission" of Lehi telling me about a meeting to disuss the zoning laws for different parts of Lehi with the City Council.  The laws would really affect our 26 acres - they wanted to zone it so the building lots would be 1/2 to 1 acre each which would be GREAT.  I scanned the letter and sent it to John and told him I would go to the meeting because I knew he had LOTS to catch up on from his trip to Lake Powell.  I was surprised when he called and said he would go to the meeting too and wanted to meet me at that service station at the intersection going into Highland - he said he wanted to show me a home he was looking at.  I was flattered to think he would want my opinion on whether or not to buy a home.  I absolutely could not believe it when he drove into the driveway of this beautiful home and used a garage door opener so we could park in the garage.

John told me he planned to tell me at Lake Powell but I had left when he got there.  His home could not be more perfect and he is SO lucky to have found it!!!  The home is a dream with a lovely deck right off the kitchen and "great" room and many bedrooms and a formal living room and WOULD YOU BELIEVE - a pantry.  I told him I would "kill" for a pantry - Ha!!!  The downstairs is all finished with a large family room and I believe two bedrooms & bath and other rooms for storage.  HE CAN TAKE ALL HIS BELONGINGS THAT HE HAS IN MY CONDO AND GO THROUGH THEM TO SEE WHAT HE CAN USE!!!

I was thrilled to see Tar out in his backyard and he looks just wonderful - I have worried about him having to be on a leash during the day.  THEN - John threw a ball out for Tar and there is this HUGE horse barn in the back of his house that is separated by a fence.  I couldn't believe that it belonged to John too as Tar ran threw the fence.  John took me out to the barn and it is A-1 - there are four horses in it now that John said belonged to one of his neighbors.  John hasn't brought his horses there yet - I believe he only has two.  WHAT DO I KNOW????  I could have stayed there all day - it is that kind of a home!!!  He has beautiful views of the mountains from every room in his home.

THEN - HE TOLD ME THAT ANNIE AND JEANNIE HAVE BEEN HELPING HIM WITH THE PAINTING, ETC., ETC.  I have talked to them a million times during the last month and they haven't said one word to me about what was going on.  John hired the person who has done Jeannie's painting and he had his entire home painted and it is BEAUTIFUL.  The only bad thing was that his refrigerator is empty - Ha!!!  His yard is SO beautiful with a willow tree in the front yard.  I JUST LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!!

The City Countil meeting was MUCH TOO LONG!!!  I was thrilled and VERY surprised to have Annie go to that too - John had told her about it.  I have never been to one before but both of them had.  I didn't think they were ever going to come to a conclusion about the things they were discussing and the things we were interested in were towards the end of the list so I MADE all of us leave.  John called me the next day and told me one of his friends who was at the meeting told him they finally got to "our" part and most of the people in the meeting were there for that too - he said they didn't come to a conclusion about that either.  I didn't get home until about midnight and that darn construction going on at the entrance to Farmington had a million of those orange barrells so I had to go to Kaysville in order to get back to Farmington.  I truly do not believe they will ever finish that construction. - I hold my breath every Saturday morning at 4:30 when I drive along HWY. 89 and it is pitch black fearing I will fall off into an unknown hole - Ha!!!

Speaking of construction - I get a sad feeling when I pass Davis High School.  They have been working on it for the past year but it has just been within the last couple weeks that they have actually torn down the front of the buildings AND IT IS A BIG MESS!!!  I have been to that school for so many years attending activities for my Weinert & Bob Mellor Grandchildren that it gives me a funny feeling to see the destruction.  It reminds me of the pictures I have seen of the Oklahoma Bombing Scenes.  It will be such a big improvement when it is finished and I'm SO glad Katie will be there for two more years so I can go to it again.

Claire - THANK YOU SO MUCH for the CD of Lake Powell.  I haven't looked at it yet - I have lost the directions!!!!  I appreciate your coming over to help me with Staci's luncheon - you surely helped me with some very important things!!!  Katie is going to come over tonight and write the names on the place cards and then I believe things will be ready.  Annie said she would "do the game" and that will REALLY help me - I'm not good at things like that anymore.  I met with the banquet's manager yesterday and we went over all the menu possibilities - Claire and I had discussed them too.  I asked her advice and she called the chef for his suggestions and he suggeted the croiisant (sp.?) chicken salad - I didn't want that because that is too similar to what we served at the family shower and besides I can make that - Ha!!!  The chef suggested the "Chicken Tarragon Crepes" - he said it was beautiful and perfect for a ladies' luncheon and it will be served with rice, vegetable, fresh garden salad, dessert and beverage - DOES THAT SOUND OKAY???  There will be 30 of us so they won't let us order from the meni - at least they said they didn't think that would be a good idea and could take too long.  Barji - I can add more if you feel like coming so let me know.  We will understand either way.  I'm excited to meet more of Staci's family members and  to be with all of our family again. Annie is going to have her varicose veins operated on the day before but she said she is sure she will be fine.

I went to the Layton outdoor concert on Friday night with Patt & Darrell Guthrie - a group that was formed at BYU years ago did the program and I enjoyed it very much.  It was a string quartet doing "bluegrass" music and the banjo and fiddler player were probably exhausted after it was over - the group is called "Fire on the Mountain".  I also helped take dinner to a man in our ward whose wife and children are in Canada for vacation - my heart wasn't in that - Ha!!!  I LOVE to take meals in to people who are ill though.

I hope Roy, Patrice, Timothy & Jesse have rested up from their Lake Powell trip.  I keep hearing reports about how good Timothy & Jesse were with the water sports.  Roy - Ann Cobb told me that Rick has bought a share in a houseboat at Lake Powell.  He and his wife and children live in Phoenix and it is actually closer to where they live than it is for us here in Utah.  Maybe you will run into them some time when you are here - that would be a rare thing because the Lake is SO large.  I think about Emily - I hope SO much that she is having a GREAT experience.

I called Carol Ann Willardsen one morning this week and we talked a VERY long time.  She is doing good - a little disappointed with the disagreements within her family - I DON'T WANT ANY OF THAT!!!!  Carol Ann is a VERY wealthy woman with many huge businesses to take care of.  She said that Jimmy has bought a home in Draper and will practice with Chris Crawford - she said it got so there was a dentist on every street corner in Las Vegas.  she said to tell you all "hello" and that she appreciates very much your concern for her.

I want to hear about Steve & Susannas' trip to Florida and I definitely want a recent picture of Caroline Ann.  I just love the pictures we took when they were here and WE ALL LOOK PRETTY GOOD - Ha!!!  It's fun to see Susanna with her baby and pregnant Barji, just like they were before Preston was born.  Jackson & Preston are two years old - THAT IS SUCH A HARD AGE - hang in there!!!

I think about Laura & Jessie - hope you're doing WONDERFUL!!!  Lee Anna is going to Washington the end of next week - VERY exciting!!!  Russell & Brett are VERY busy studying in their college classes and JImmy is practicing football for Timpview.  It will be fun to be with Mary Ann on Thursday - they spent the July 4th holiday with David's parents at their Summer home.

THAT'S ALL THE NEWS - I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
