Weekly Report May 23, 2004

Dearest Family,

The BIG news for this letter is that Emily is coming to Utah for a little visit on Friday!!!  I am SO excited to see her even though I know I won't get to spend much time with her - Katie has top priority!!!  I hope I get to take both of them to lunch or to do something fun with Emily while Katie is in school.  I talked to Claire about meeting her at the airport and she said Katie has "it all worked out".  I keep thinking what a neat blessing it is for them to be the same age - they will have LOTS to catch up on!!!  I wish she could bring her flute to play for us but I know that is a BIG responsiblity for her to carry it on the airlines.  It will be very special for her to be with us for the shower for Staci on Monday, Memorial Day at the Weinert's home - I hope MANY cousins will be there.

This has been a fun day for me.  John came this morning to help me with the "picture project".  I feel so much more comfortable now, knowing that I am doing it right and the pictures and commentaries are being SAVED!!!  Bob came on Friday and "hooked" up another hard drive to give more assurance that things wouldn't be erased.  John had brought the hard drive about two weeks ago and then Bob had brought something else to help hook it up but it didn't work at first so he came on Friday and spent all afternoon fixing things.  I PROMISE THAT I WILL NOT "BUG" THEM ANY MORE!!!  I should be smart enough to finish the project and do it right and I appreciate them SO VERY, VERY MUCH!!!  Computers are marvelous things and when I think of the many years I have worried that all my pictures would be lost I am very relieved to know they will be saved for posterity.  John was surely inspired to start that project for me about a year ago because I could never have done it and I know it has been a pain for him because I have had many, many questions.  John is doing REALLY good and looks SO handsome - he said he would go to church with me "next time".  I had a letter from the lady who manages "West Canyon" and she had enclosed the minutes of the meetings and in the last one she quoted a new member "John Mellor" and then at the bottom of the page she had written "John is such a fine young man - a real gentleman".  I'm SO glad he will go to those meetings.

Another BIG news item for this letter is the article that was in the Ogden Standard Examiner newspaper about the humanitarian work being done in Guatemala with a HUGE picture of Bob on the front page as he is examining a small child in Guatemala and other pictures.  The article is just WONDERFUL and I liked the last quote from Bob when he said "I have a gift of helping these people and I can't stop".  Roy's name is also listed as an anesthesiologist who goes with the group and it says "family members" are also with them and I know John was one of them as well as others.   A lady with whom I work at the temple brought the article for me on Saturday morning and I was SO proud to show it to my friends.  I am going to try to get other copies to send to friends in Little Rock and other places.  I appreciate Claire bringing me the paper the day it came out - I don't take that paper so I wouldn't have known about it.

Another BIG news item for this letter is that I received an announcement from San Diego State University that a "Master of Arts" degree was presented to Jessie Woolley in "Rhetoric & Communication Studies with an Emphasis in Teaching Writing".  That is such a great accomplishment and I'm SO proud of Jessie.  It takes alot of determination and "grit" to go out of state all by herself and accomplish what she wanted to do.

I am wondering if I will have a BIG announcement from the Reeves' family for my letter next week.  Susanna & Steves' baby is due on Saturday and we all know that babies come when they are good and ready.  This is such a WONDERFUL and exciting event for our family and I know that Annie is ready to go and be with them when their baby comes.

Our family is having many exciting events.  I received some pictures of Michael and Staci today on e-mail and they both look SO happy and they make a beautiful (handsome) couple.  They will have SO much fun as they finish their college studies together in Logan - both working and studying hard.  I remember those days and they are still some of my happiest memories.

The Weinerts are doing good.  I stopped to see them on Wednesday after my D.U.P. meeting and Jeannie is busy making a "Strawberry Shortcake Quilt" for Baby Weinert.  Barji, Boyd & Preston were there and Preston "ALMOST" let me hold him.  I believe Sarah is going to take a few Summer Semester classes at the "U" so she will be starting back to school soon.  Ricky is happy in Logan and that makes me happy because I love Logan.  Mary Ann & David are doing fine - I'm impressed with David's mobile "car detailing" business.

I had my last meeting as captain of my D.U.P. meeting on Wednesday.  It was our closing social and it was a buffet luncheon at Jeanne Ferrin's home.  They have lived in Farmington for many years and their home is SO lovely with a big backyard with horses and orchards and we had a good group.  I intend to stay active in the group and it will be good to not "be in charge".  I don't like to have any responsiblities anymore - I just like being a follower - OLD AGE!!!

I went to lunch with my former visiting teaching companion and a sister we visited on Monday.  I went to lunch at the "Rockloft" with Margaret on Thursday.  There is no way I will ever be able to lose weight!!!

Did I tell you that Terry Woods is going to adopt a "homeless girl"??  Dan said the adoption process would be complete in June.  I didn't know single men and women could adopt children.  It will be good for Terry and maybe she will just travel with one dog instead of five - Ha!!!!  Do any of you remember Jim & Carol Brown from Little Rock?  I have a message on my answering machine saying they had some news I would be interested in - I called them back but had to leave a message - if it's something I think you would be interested in I will send a P.S.

That's all the news, I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  GRANDMA B XXXXXOOOOO

I received the legal documents from Rodney Wilkinson and I will take care of that tomorrow.  He apologized for being slow in getting them to me.
