Dearest Family,
HAPPY, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO THE WONDERFUL
MOTHERS IN MY FAMILY - I AM SO PROUD OF EACH ONE OF YOU!!! I have had
such a special day and I continue to cherish the fact that I am a Mother
of such GREAT children - I love and appreciate you SO much and I
hope each one of you has had a special day too!!!
I went to church with Jeannie and her family
and then I went to their home for a delicious dinner and visiting - Rick
had sent me an e-mail inviting me early in the week and that meant SO
much to me - THANK YOU RICK. Their church services were excellent - I
always enjoy talks that involve ALL mothers and not just the ones of the
speakers and that's the way their talks were. The Primary children sang
some "Mother" songs and they always remind me of the times in Little
Rock when my children were little and Annie was the chorister and
Jeannie was the pianist and they spent MANY hours practicing - HAPPY
MEMORIES!!!
Barji, Boyd & Preston, Mary Ann & David and
Sarah were with us for dinner and Ricky was going to come later on today
- I left about 3 o'clock to go to Brigham City to put flowers on my
Mother's grave so I didn't get to see him. It was fun to be with Sarah
in Relief Society - I can't believe she is old enough to belong to the
Relief Society. Barji is SO pregnant and I can't believe that either.
That little Preston is a typical little boy and has LOTS of energy -
somehow he found a sharp knife and came into the dining room to show it
to us - we all panicked as Boyd hurried to get it away from him. I
believe that is the first time I have ever heard him cry.
John - I'm sorry to have missed your phone
calls and I hope you'll have time to call from the airport before you
leave to go to New York tonight. Wally came over to say hello to
Jeannie and me at church this morning and I said "I've been expecting to
hear from you" and he said "I've been expecting to hear from your
daughter Ann". I guess you haven't had time to let him know that we
won't need him to manage the estate trust. I know I owe him some money
and that's what I was referring to. I know you could do a better job of
"dis-engaging him" than I could - let me know if you want me to do it.
I hope you have a good time in THE BIG CITY - be careful. I think
Americans are so vulnerable in places like New York after the
prison things have been made public. Did you know that our former
neighbor in Orem, Hannah Oldroyd, passed away? Her funeral was Saturday
morning and I couldn't go but I would have loved to - she was such a
marvelous woman. Her daughter, Nancy, took in your mail sometimes.
CONGRATULATIONS TO STACI AND MICHAEL!!!!
They became engaged last week and I can't think of a more perfect couple
- I'm SO thrilled for them and it will be exciting and fun to hear about
their marriage plans when they have time to make them. I REALLY
appreciate talking to Bob & Claire and hearing about their happiness -
it doesn't get any better than that!!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO JESSIE!!! She will
receive her Master's Degree in technical writing from San Diego State
University this Saturday and Ann & Ron are going to be there with her.
I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU JESSIE!!!
Annie came to my condo yesterday morning and
I hurried from the temple so she wouldn't leave before I got home but I
still missed her. She was a delegate for the Democratic Convention in
Salt Lake and came here during her lunch break. I'm surprised she is a
Democrat - I thought we were all supposed to be Republicans - Ha!!!!
I'm happy when my children are involved in community affairs and it
isn't up to me to tell them which political party they should be
involved with. I'm VERY happy to be a Republican!!! I was very
surprised this morning to learn that our Governor, Oleen Walker, who
took over when Governor Leavitt left to go to Washington was defeated in
her election yesterday. She has done a GREAT job but she is 73 years
old and I'm sure that had alot to do with her defeat. Huntsman and
Karras will compete in the November election against the Democratic
candidate - Scott Matheson. I like Huntsman and his name will open many
business doors for Utah. WHAT DO I KNOW!!!!
I'm getting anxious for Emily to come visit
for a few days - I'm sure I won't get to see much of her but I will be
available to go to Park City for shopping like we did the last time she
was here if she wants to go. I hope our family will get together for
Memorial Day in Lehi - maybe we could fly kites and have a picnic or
something. Alot of the Woolley's participation will depend on when
Susanna has her baby and that is SO unpredictable. That is going to be
such an exciting event - A LITTLE BABY GIRL to go with our two little
boys (and three if Barji's is a boy!!! IT'S WONDERFUL TO BE A
GREAT-GRANDMOTHER!!!
I have had a fun and busy week. I went to
Salt Lake to visit with Don but I couldn't awaken him - they told me he
had been to an activity in the morning and he was really tired so I
didn't wait very long. I had a phone call from Cheryl and she said she
had picked him up and taken him to the "Retired Teacher's Party" the
next day and he was fine. I am impressed with the Veteran's Nursing
Home - too bad I'm not a veteran. After going there I met Ellen Mae &
Mel and Eris & Clinton at the restaurant in Bountiful that we all like
and then we went to the Mannings for strawberry shortcake - it was such
a fun evening but Ellen Mae & I both decided we are not as old as Eris &
Clinton - Ha!!!!
I had a phone call from my friends in
Bangkok early on Tuesday morning - Lek and Anan. They said they were
worried because I hadn't sent them an e-mail for a long time. They are
trying to save their money so they can come to Utah - they are the
sweetest people and I miss them!!!
We had our D.U.P. Jubilee on Thursday night
and I took a woman who can hardly walk but she wanted to go. The
meeting was very nice and we both enjoyed it - a great-great-grandson of
Brother Penrose spoke to us and it was interesting. The D.U.P. cabin
here in Farmington is the "Penrose Cabin" and he told about the large
family that lived in it and it isn't as big as my living room.
I went to the annual Humanitarian Missionary
Reunion in Salt Lake on Friday night with Janet Asper - most of you
remember that she was one of my companions in Bangkok. That is always
such a special time - I saw many of the former missionaries with whom I
served as well as other friends. It's always good to hear the reports
of the fabulous humanitarian services given by the church - they are
dealing alot now with providing clean water to areas where it is not
good, providing wheelchairs to areas where they can't afford them and
also teaching prenatal care of infants whose mortality rate is so high.
Janet is going to go to China to teach English and she is excited about
that. I'm perfectly content to stay home and serve in the temple.
I had such an exciting time in the temple on
Saturday morning. A group of people came from Madagascar and everyone
was SO thrilled but then we lost them - they were finally found in the
cafeteria and we had to hurry to get them to the session on time. I was
kinda' surprised at how "black" and how "small" they are. Annie told me
this morning that this group had been to their home for dinner and the
missionary couple with them had stayed with the Woolleys on Friday
night. I didn't know all this but I did ask one of the young men if he
knew an "Elder Woolley" and he just looked at me and smiled. They are
here for this week to do some Malagasy translating for the endowment
sessions to be used in Johannesburg and Russell will be with them - I
wish he could have been with them at the temple. It's kinda' funny -
one of the counselors in the Bountiful Temple Presidency is named
Woolley and he was in charge of them on Saturday - I know that if I
could have talked to them and told them about Russell they would somehow
have become confused and think the Woolley name is synonymous with the
Mormons - Ha!!!
That's all the news, I think. I LOVE EACH
ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN
EVERYTHING YOU DO. Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
