Weekly Report April 11, 2004

Dearest Family,

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSIE TODAY - I HOPE YOU HAVE HAD A WONDERFUL 24TH BIRTHDAY.  I have thought about you all day today and how special to celebrate your birthday on Easter Sunday.  It's hard for me to believe that you are about to receive your master's degree in technical writing - is that right?????  When I have accessed pictures on my genealogy project I have seen the times when Lynn received his master's degree at Colorado A & M College in Fort Collins and IT WAS  A BIG DEAL!!!
IT IS A BIG DEAL FOR YOU TOO AND I'M PROUD OF ALL YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED!!!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JEANNIE ON FRIDAY, THE 16TH - YOU WILL BE "THIRTY SOMETHING" AND A MIGHTY YOUNG ONE!!!  I HOPE YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY TOO.  I hope you won't have to cook - it seems to me that you have been doing ALOT of cooking and waiting on people lately!!!

This has been a busy and fun Easter Sunday for me today.  I went to my ward church services from 12:30 until 3:30 and the choir put on a beautiful program and it was narrated by Spencer Kinnard.  All the Utah people will remember him as being the "Spoken Word" spokesman for the tabernacle choir programs on Sunday morning - he was replaced about 6 years ago ( I think that's right) but the minute I heard him speak today I recognized his voice and he was REALLY, REALLY good.

I left right after the services to go to Lehi to put some flowers on Lynn's grave and to take the burlap wraps from the evergreen trees that are by his grave.  The cemetery looks SO pretty - the grass is green and there were flowers on many graves.  I had planned to stop and see Don and take him some Easter treats but the traffic got really bad so I decided to just come home and I'll go see him sometime this week.  Margaret and I went to see him one day last week and it was VERY sad to be with him - he and Margaret are the same age and were friends during High School and her husband was in the National Guard with Don & Dee and he didn't even seem to know who she was.  She was such a good sport and visited with him but he didn't say one word to her.  Cheryl says he is very unhappy in the resthome but I surely hope she doesn't try to bring him home to stay again unless she can get help to lift him.  Margaret and I came home determined to try to keep in good health physically and mentally!!!!!!!

Bob - THANK YOU!!!  He came over tonight and helped me with my genealogy picture project.  I spent almost all last week scanning pictures for it and I worry SO much that something will happen and they will be erased - Bob told me that Michael is technical support for a computer company and someone asked for help trying to get a website back that had been erased and it represented years of work.  I worry about a week's work.  I didn't know Bob knew how to do the things he did for the project tonight BUT he said that somehow I had changed the format and he isn't sure if that can be corrected - OH ME!!!!  Some of the pictures I have scanned this past week are valuable as far as genealogy goes - pictures of Elaine and Earl and also Keith, Dixie, Nancy and Paula and other members of Lynn's family.  I LOVE scanning the pictures but it takes ALOT of time!!!  I keep thinking of all the time Ricky spent last Summer.

John - THANK YOU!!! I received a letter about a meeting for the West Canyon Property Owners Association in Cedar Fort and I asked John to try to go to it but I really didn't think he would BUT he did and I appreciate it so much.  He said he learned alot and the biggest thing he learned was how passionate the owners are about the property they own there.  I don't know if any of you remember where the roads fork - one going to the left and the other going to the right.  Evidently the road going to the left was owned by the county so they had to allow people to use it if they had keys.  They have tried to get that road owned soley by the property owners and John said they announced that they had been successful in doing this so they will be able to keep it a little more private in the future.

Claire - THANK YOU!!!  The Davis High Drum line participated in an Easter activity at the "Gateway" yesterday and Claire sent me some pictures on the internet that she had taken.  The activity was for young people to make "Easter Bonnets" and they were judged and awarded prizes.  I saw it on television yesterday and the drum line not only "drummed" but they did all kinds of actions so it was exciting to watch and I'm sure the young people LOVED it!!!  Bob and Claire are going to chaperone the drum line as they go to California this week for a national competition - I'm SO proud of them for the support they give Brett and Katie in their school activities and this will involve alot of bus travel.

I have had letters from my friends in Thailand wishing me a Happy Songkran Day so it was fun to read about one of the schools in Salt Lake celebrating Songkran as they learned about the culture in Thailand.  Everyone participates in this celebration by throwing water on people and it is intended as a "good will gesture".  I will never forget having someone come up to me in a little market and spraying water in my face - I would have been frightened except they are SO friendly and kind and I could tell they meant well.  They would have large barrels of water in trucks and go through the towns throwing water on everyone they could find.  Thailand has MANY celebrations and they cancel school, work and business things.  They always visit their elderly family members on Songkran day.

Roy - THANK YOU!!!  Bobbye Dennis called me yesterday and I know we talked for two hours.  She couldn't say enough nice things about having you for her anesthesiologist when she had surgery.  She said she had tried to call me several times and couldn't get me - I believe this surgery was about 6 - 7 months ago.  She said she told all the hospital personnel about you and how she had watched you grow up and that you came from such a wonderful family - she's a VERY nice person.

Jeannie - THANK YOU!!!  I am SO interested in your neighbor, Chad Oreson, and I have appreciated the updates you have sent to me along with his pictures.  I know it is going to take a long time before his operation will show signs of improvement and I'm hoping it will REALLY help him.  I hope you had fun with your family today and Ricky's college friends.  I kinda' smiled when I read that Mike Weir "missed the cut" at the Master's Golf tournament this weekend and that Tiger Woods didn't play up to his expectations either.

Annie - THANK YOU!!! for your e-mail message and willingness to go see Wilkinson.

I had a fun day last Tuesday.  Dianne and Garry Power came for conference and invited me to their home in Cottonwood.  They also invited Linda (Smithers) and Bill Stringfellow who live in Bountiful - I went to their home and rode with them and I was happy because I'm not sure I would have been able to find it by myself.  Linda & Bills' home is REALLY beautiful and I have never seen Linda so happy.  I was surprised they could have such a nice home and I am thrilled for them.  Linda is a gifted decorator and she has such good taste.  Dianne & Garrys' home is as nice as the one they have in California - it is unbelievable to me that they can do the things they do - they are leaving this next week for Istanbul (sp.?)  It was funny because that morning I had received pictures from Barbara Sondrup of a home she has just bought in Dallas - that makes homes for her in Georgia, Florida, Texas and Utah.  Garry wanted me to be sure to tell Roy hello!!!  Barbara was on her way to Portugal!!!  UPS really paid off for Garry & Kevin.

Garry told me that their son Garic has two "special needs" children - one of their daughters has a cavity in the right side of her brain that didn't ever develop and one of their sons has been diagnosed with "selective mutism" - VERY unusual problems.  Garic is in the Stake Presidency of their stake in California.

There has been alot of news on our television covering the death and funeral for President Hinckley's wife.  She was such a wonderful woman and they had been married for 67 years - her funeral was yesterday and was held in the tabernacle with about 2,500 people attending.  Her "viewing" was held Friday night and people lined up in the rain for hours to get into the Relief Society Building to pay their respects.  She will really be missed - she was 92 years old, the same age as my Father when he died.  She was remarkable with her mentality being so good - my Father didn't know anyone.

THIS LETTER IS MUCH TOO LONG.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  GRANDMA B XXXXXOOOOO

P.S.  Mother's Day will be coming up soon and I want you to know the I TRULY do not want any gifts - I don't need one thing and there are VERY special women in each one of your lives who deserve and should have the attention!!!
