Weekly Report March 21, 2004

Dearest Family,

I am wondering if Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse are home from Costa Rica yet?  I imagine the children must go back to school tomorrow so I am assuming they are home.  Bob came over last Sunday and brought a disc of pictures of their trip there and it was just WONDERFUL - I felt as though I had been on a trip to Costa Rica.  They had pictures of the Roy Mellors so I have thought about them all week and I hope they have had as good a time as the Bob Mellors.  The scenery reminded me of Thailand and also the fruits and vegetables in their markets.

Jeannie and Sarah came over last Sunday evening too and it was SO nice to visit with Sarah and hear about her school work at the University of Utah.  I was SO happy to learn from Sarah that the church fraternity/sorority Lambda Delta Sigma is "alive and well".  I have tried to get all my grandchildren who have attended Utah State to get active in that but they have ALL told me they didn't have it anymore - I loved all the activities it provided when I was a student and I just knew they wouldn't stop it.  Sarah loves her school classes and the dancing classes she is taking.

Barji thank you SO much for your phone call on Thursday night.  She said she wouldn't care if I told you "their news"!!!  Barji will have a little baby girl!!!  I can't believe how she and Susanna will have little boys and little girls to start their families and I'm SO thrilled for them.  I have been accessing family pictures all week and it has been so much fun to see my children and my little grandchildren when they were first born until they are in their teens - I LOVE THOSE PICTURES!!!  Jeannie has told me that little Preston is SO cute and makes all kinds of actions with his eyes - I hope they are taking LOTS of pictures.

I am sure Jessie has had a good time being home for a few days.  Annie had written that they might try to come see me when they left the airport on Thursday - I stayed close to the telephone because I was sure they would call before coming and sometimes I miss calls because I don't hear them.  Jessie had made a dental appointment and they wanted to get home early on Friday night because of that so they didn't come.  I'm SO happy our weather has been good for her visit.

The Woolleys didn't go to Arizona last week as I had reported in my letter - Ron has a case there this week so they decided to change their plans and go this week instead.  They will be gone from Wednesday until Saturday (actually Ann will come home on Friday night) - I believe Ann, Ron & Russell will go and Lee Anna will stay with Jimmy because they have school.  They keep a VERY busy schedule.  I know Susanna will be happy when they can be with them.

Claire and Bob invited me to go to the Davis High School "Midnight Serenade Dinner & Dance" with them on Thursday night and it was just WONDERFUL.  Claire's parents, Alice & Bob Ezell also went.  I went last year too and I am amazed the school can put on such a special evening.  Brett plays with the jazz band and it is excellent and we had a good place to see him this year after the dinner and he is SO good - he was the only drummer.  I believe all the food is cooked and served by volunteers many of whom are students - you have your choice between halibut or steak - my halibut was delicious.  It is just an elegant affair and it's fun to be with young people and they all knew Claire and welcomed us with open arms - Bob had to go to a church meeting so he was late in getting there.  It was fun to watch all the couples dance - young and old.  The music was from the "Glenn Miller" era and I just love that music - reminded me of the Glenn Miller night at Utah State when Barji danced and Jessie played her violin several years ago.  I get kinda' sad when I think this is the last year that Brett will be involved in that and other activities at Davis.

Ellen Mae invited me to go to the Layton High School Presentation of "Les Miserables" on Friday night.  I don't usually go places on Friday night because I have to get up early on Saturday morning but I didn't want to miss that opportunity.  It was just excellent and really I enjoyed it as much as the one I saw at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake.  The students did an excellent job and they all have such good voices - SO MUCH TALENT IN THIS AREA!!!  I was late for the temple prayer meeting on Saturday morning but that doesn't happen very often so it was okay.

Our former neighbors, Rosanne & Ray Tenhoeve, called and invited Margaret and me to go to Marie Callenders for lunch on Friday afternoon.  They have bought a big home in Layton - north from where Bob & Claire live - and they took us to see it after we had eaten.  It is a lovely home and quite surprising for me to see them move from the condos where they have lived for 20 years.  They sold a large home in Salt Lake and had to use the money on another home because of tax issues.

We had our D.U.P. meeting last Wednesday and it was SO nice!!!  We are studying the counties in Utah and it was on pioneers in Salt Lake County and very interesting!!!  I know most of you know about the "McCune" family - they owned the McCune school of music for many years and that home is still the most beautiful one in Salt Lake.  We learned about that family.

Patrice, Roy & family I was SO happy to have a "St.Patrick's Card" to display on my dining room table - thank you SO very much.  I REALLY am very interested in St. Patrick's day now and love to read about all the activities that go on - parades, etc.  I went to a Relief Society meeting on Wednesday night and the special speaker who came from Salt Lake wore a "Green suit with a Shamrock Pin" and she mentioned she was from Irish ancestry.

Our meeting about the Jesse Mellor Trust with our attorney, Wally Bournemeir will be on Monday, March 29th at 7 p.m.  I hope you will all be able to come (I won't expect Roy) - he had to change it from tomorrow because of a funeral he had to attend in St. George.  I don't believe there will be any changes BUT WHAT DO I KNOW!!!  Roy - I'll let you know what changes will be made if any.  It is just an update of the trust because it hasn't been done since I left to go to Thailand in 1997.

John - I wanted to have all the commentaries done on the picture albums I have accessed before tomorrow so you could "burn" them when you came for the meeting.  I have done three albums and will finish the fourth one probably tomorrow - THEN I will start on pictures that weren't put in albums.  Would you believe I have 31 albums - WOW!!!  I hope your week has been good - I know you had a busy one planned.

That's all the news - I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOO
