Weekly Report February 29, 2004

Dearest Family,

WOW - we are completely covered up with snow!!!  I don't remember a snowstorm like this one this late in the season for a long, long time.  The condo managers were out early this morning and they had a hard time keeping up with all the snow that was falling and all that had already fallen.  It is a  "million dollar" snow storm because we need the moisture and this snow is very heavy.

I was SO happy to hear from Patrice when I got home from Wyoming and especially to learn that Emily wants to come to visit her Utah cousins around Memorial Day - THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL!!!  It seems like a long time since I have seen Emily and I miss her.  I know I won't get to see much of her but I'm looking forward to having her in Utah.

I was also SO happy to hear from Annie - I'm glad her "workload" at BYU is going to be easier after this week until she starts on another semester.  SHE GOES TOO FAST!!!  Susanna - Thank you SO much for sending me the pictures of Jackson while you were in Florida during the Christmas holidays and thank your sister-in-law for making that website.  He surely has some darling cousins and I think one of the little boys has those adorable "cheeks" that Jackson has - must be a hereditary thing!!!

Jeannie - thank you for your note too  I hope you and Rick have had a good time in Tucson with Boyd, Barji & Preston - I can't think of a better weekend to have been gone than this one.  You missed all the snow and I worried about Sarah but you promised me that she would have a friend stay with her.  I could take Sadie anytime but she is such a good "watchdog" that I hate to have her leave your home.

Bob - I appreciate your letting me know that you received Ray Edward's obituary.  I wasn't sure I could send it that way and have you access it.  Annie had written to tell me about Ray passing away and I sent the obituary to Bob, Jean & John.  It sounded like maybe he died of a heart attack because he died doing what he loved best - "fishing".  I laughed as Bob said it was too bad that he and Daddy couldn't have "fallen in an ice-hole together".  I felt SO bad that I wasn't here so I could go to his funeral - I would have liked to visit with Carol and some of Daddy's Lehi friends.  I'll go see Carol when I go South again.  I hope they have lakes, creeks and rivers in Heaven so they can fish together.

I talked to John one day this week and he said he planned to come see me this weekend but I guess it didn't work out.  It would have been dumb to travel in our terrible weather so I was glad he didn't come.  I worry about a pair of shoes he left here but he probably doesn't need them.  He has been in Palm Springs and I can't think of a better place to be and I hope he was able to do something fun in the sunshine.

I talked to Cheryl and she has put Don in the V.A. Resthome in Salt Lake - that makes me SO sad but I don't blame her one bit.  She has taken care of him much longer than most wives would have done under the circumstances and when he falls it is impossible for one person to get him up.  I doubt that he will live very long now - he has surely had a miserable life for the last four or five years.  I will go see him as soon as I can.  I was surprised when Cheryl told me it would only cost about $2,100.00 a month - Aunt Marvel's resthome costs in Little Rock were over $3,000.00 a month.

Bob just came over for his regular Sunday visit and I LOVE that.  They are going to Costa Rica next Saturday for a week and will be there to have dinner one night with Roy & Patrice & their family - it's too bad that Brett and Katie won't be there with them.  Michael, Stacy and Laura are going and that will be so much fun!!!

I had a good time in Wyoming - it was VERY COLD!!!  We went through Randolph and Woodruff in the middle of the afternoon on Friday and the temperature in Margaret's car was 2 degrees.  The thermometer on her porch was between 10-15 during the day while we were there.  Her home is VERY warm and comfortable and it was fun to be with some "young people" for a few days - I'm not sure they enjoyed "old people" but they didn't complain.

I went to a Thai Teacher Missionary party yesterday and it was fun to see some of the missionaries I had served with in Thailand.  A couple from Salt Lake told me they would come get me so I said I would meet them in the K-Mart parking lot - it's just too hard for them to find my condo.  Virginia was directing them and she had them stay on the freeway instead of getting on Hwy. 89 so they had to turn around and come back after they got in Layton - as a result we were about an hour late for the party and I felt SO bad.  It was snowing hard and Virginia said she couldn't see the road.  The party was to honor a couple who served as Country Directors in Thailand and then were called to serve in Salt Lake as Foreign Teacher Assignment Directors - they have finished their mission and are moving to their home in Oregon - Dwayne and Jean Christensen.

I think that's all the news.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
