Weekly Report February 1, 2004

Dearest Famly,

It's Super Bowl Sunday today - the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers.  I don't follow sports unless the teams are local but it's fun to see how much excitement there is about this game and I have enjoyed seeing all the recipes that are featured on the television shows for food to be served while watching the games.  I have television on now and the score is 0 - 0 so the teams must be pretty evenly matched.  I think the games are "brutal" and it amazes me that more players are not killed.

I have had contacts with most of you this week.  Annie & Ron are home from Phoenix where they spent some time with the Reeves and I know they had a good time.  Annie has been such alot of help with the narrative I have written for Shirley's book - she corrected alot of my grammatical errors and now she's waiting to receive Steve & Susanna's family group sheet so she can send it to me - THANKS SO MUCH!!!  Jeannie came over one day with the Summerhays' family group sheet and now I'm waiting to have her send that to me along with the Parker's Family group sheet.  I hope each one of you will write a little narrative about your own children.  I am going to Wyoming with Margaret tomorrow and I will be gone all next week SO that will give me just a few days after I get home to finish everything to send to Shirley.

I mentioned that I was having a hard time finding the date of Lynn's baptism.  John called and asked me if I had looked in the Mellor Genealogy book that he made a long time ago - I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier because it has ALL the dates and information I need.  Now I'm going through some current pictures to go along with the narrative - it all takes SO MUCH time.

Patrice - thanks for sending me Emily's e-mail address.  I have sent her messages before but I don't believe she has ever received any of them.  John was able to access the picture of Emily and her friends at the "Clark Political Rally" in Little Rock and he forwarded it on to me.  Emily is such a beautiful young woman and I think it's wonderful that she takes advantage of all the opportunities she has - I like the young people to be informed about government things.

Many thanks to Bob for fixing an electrical outlet problem I was having.  I couldn't understand why my fuses would blow out when I used certain outlets downstairs - he came over and replaced one of them and then explained all the "amps" different things used.  I don't believe the electrical system in the condos is as good as it should be because Margaret tells me that she is constantly having problems like that.  It is a good thing he came over when he did.  I had gone someplace and when I came home I found his note telling me that my garage ceiling was leaking.  It has started to thaw here and with all the snow on my flat roof over the garage it caused a leak.  He had put a garbage pail under it and I called our condo manager the next day and he came over and fixed it.  The roof will have to be repaired but that is the responsibility of the condo association and sometime I'll get my garage ceiling repaired.

I told all of you about receiving that "gift certificate" for a hair cut and color.  WELL - last Thursday Margaret, Patt and I went into Salt Lake to the salon to have it done - they went with me to make sure I wouldn't back out - Ha!!!  WHAT A DRASTIC CHANGE!!!  The beautician said "let's lighten up your hair" and then she showed me many samples of the different colors available.  I finally told her to just do what she thought would be best so she colored it a darkish brown and then after thirty minutes she shampooed that and dried it and then she put all those foil papers in to separate it and put VERY light brown streaks in it.  I know all the "girls" in my family have had that done but I have never had my hair professionally colored and it took three hours and I thought she would never get it finished.  THEN she cut it and told me to never use such small curlers when I had a permanent.  She cut ALL my permanent off and it looked really good when I left but it is hard for me to manage it now.  EVERYONE tells me how much they like it so I will try to keep it this way - I have had dark hair for 78 years with the exception of the time I went to Little Rock for the Woods' 50th wedding reception and I don't even look like me now.  I believe I will have to have this done every 4-6 weeks.  Margaret asked her to cut her hair too and that made me happy because she paid $50 and I didn't pay anything - that is VERY MUCH like Margaret!!!

It's interesting for me to watch all the political "stuff" on television and I know that none of you ever have time to do that.  I asked John if he watched very much of it and he said "Mom, I watch about 20 minutes of television a week"!!!  I have been trying to "wean" myself away from television so I bought some "fifties" cd's and they are WONDERFUL.  I never watch soap operas or junk but I do watch alot of news - I just like to have noise in the house.  I think the "Dean Scream" is SO funny but I actually like him better since that happened and I think Kerry is just too judgemental of EVERYTHING.

Lee Anna & Jessie - THANK YOU SO MUCH for your little messages.  I appreciate it when my grandchildren actually read my letters - I with I could make them more interesting!!!  Your lives are so jam packed with MANY very important things and I'm SO proud of you - KEEP UP YOUR GREAT WORK.

That's all the news - I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO

P.S.  The score is now 10-14 in favor of the New England Patriots - 3rd quarter.
