Dearest Family,

CONGRATULATIONS TO BRETT - HE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED AT BYU!!!  That has been Brett's choice for college for a long time and I'm SO thrilled that he will go there - he is a VERY capable student and will work hard and do well.    Now I will have some of my grandchildren attending all the main colleges in Utah - Michael, Laura & Ricky at Utah State in Logan,  Lee Anna & Brett at BYU, Sarah at the U of U and Barji at Weber State - how will I know who to cheer for at their sports' events?????

I have LOVED having Roy, Timothy & Jesse with me for a few days - they left on Wednesday morning and they called me when they got home in Little Rock and Jesse said "Grandma B it is 62 degrees here".  WOW - what a change - they left here and Salt Lake was 18 that morning and even colder in many places in Utah - minus 9 in Logan.  They surely had a WONDERFUL time snowboarding at "Powder Mountain" and I enjoyed seeing the pictures they took so very much.  We had foggy, hazy and ugly weather here in the Valleys but they said as soon as they got in the mountains they had bright blue skies even though it was very cold. It was such a joy for me to see how careful they all were with their equipment and their clothing - they had fabulous clothing for our cold weather and they took good care of everything they had to rent too.  Roy took great pains to teach his boys how to "burn" string in order for it to thread through the holes in their boots - I learned alot too!!!  I could see Lynn doing that same thing.

Brett & Katie invited Timothy & Jesse to go to their home and play games on Sunday night and Claire sent pictures she took of that evening and they had LOTS of fun.  Jeannie invited them to go to their home and play pool with Rick & Sarah and she could visit with Roy on Monday night.  When they got home Jesse told me about the "Smoothie" Jeannie had made using oranges, bananas and some blueberries - that was funny because I had blueberries here for them and I told them Jeannie served them often so they must be good for them.  The ones I bought weren't all that good - Ha!!!

Patrice - we all LOVED your New Year's Greeting Card.  It was so very well done and I can use the information in it as I write up a little sketch of your family for Shirley's Genealogy Book.  I hope each one of you will send me your "Family Group Sheet" soon - I have given them to all of you except for John and I believe I will be able to complete his myself.  Believe me - I know what a pain that is but you will be sorry if you are not included in her book and if you have anything special about your individual families please send it to me.

Susanna - thank you SO VERY MUCH for your sweet letter - I'm SO glad you are in your very own home.  Jessie - I was watching the BYU - San Diego State game when Roy reminded me that you are in school there - I hadn't made that connection - dumb me!!!  I wonder who you cheered for - I was sad that BYU lost.  Lee Anna - it was fun talking to you on the phone.  She has a friend who is the son of Congressman Rob Bishop and he gave a talk one night last week here in Davis County.  Margaret knows him personally so we decided to go to the meeting - I was happy that he remembered my brother Dee and they worked at Box Elder High School together.  I told him I wanted to meet him because one of my granddaughters was a friend of one of his sons - he was very friendly and nice.  I was impressed with the way he handled the MANY questions asked of him.  Lee Anna told me that she may bring her friend to meet me sometime even though they are not dating anymore - anyone from Brigham City is a friend of mine!!!

Margaret invited me to go to a "Beauty Course" in Salt Lake on Thursday night and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.  Margaret, Patt and I went to this place and I didn't even know it existed - it is at the very top of Crossroads Plaza and they had the "Red Carpets" out for this night with a delicious buffet and we were told to wear red.  They had different rooms where they demonstrated "non-surgical face lifts", "bi-tox treatments", etc., etc.  We signed a ticket as we went in and they called me the next day and said they had drawn my ticket for a free hair cut and coloring - I'm not sure if I will take advantage of it or not.  I learned that one of the most prominent face lift doctors in Utah practices there - a Dr. Taylor.  My glamorous neighbor, Martha was there too and she said he has done alot of work on her - INTERESTING!!!

John dropped by on Friday night to pick up some of his mail that had been delivered here.  He had called me from New York and said it was 2 degrees there and his flight was delayed - he said many planes were having to depart without water because of the freezing temperatures.  When he got here, it had been about 12 hours from the time he was supposed to leave N.Y. and he was tired.  I asked him how he liked this traveling bit and he said "I just love what I'm doing - it's exciting" so that's good!!!

I am always SO thankful to have a VERY warm and comfortable place to live.  I know Roy was uncomfortably cold downstairs and I had bought a space heater for him to use but he wouldn't use it - when they first got here, I turned it on and it blew a fuse so he said it used too much electricity.  I have to use it when I work down there and it is very comfortable.  I really am in a deep freeze - there are many icycles from my roof and the rain spout is completely frozen.  I LOVE this kind of weather but I don't go out in it unless I absolutely have to.  Margaret left to go to Wyoming on Friday - I couldn't go because of my temple assignment and I am also having my D.U.P. meeting here on Wednesday.  She called me and said it was VERY cold there - I'll wait until it warms up.

Today is Don's 74th birthday - I called and talked to him but he REALLY had trouble hearing me.  I thought about driving down to see him but I know his family will be there and he won't miss me.  He is doing about the same but Cheryl is taking good care of him and she is always so cheerful.

I know Boyd was disappointed about not "making the cut" to go on with the PGA Tour in Hawaii.  As far as I am concerned he had a win even though he lost - BY ONE POINT!!!  There will be many disappointments like this in his profession but he'll come out on top and he's doing what he loves and THAT'S WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT.  We're proud of you Boyd for your talent and determination.

That's all the news - I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO AND STAY WARM.  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
