Weekly Report August 24, 2003

Dearest Family,

I am finally home from Star Valley and it seems like I have been gone for forever - I AM REALLY HAPPY TO BE HOME!!!

Bob, Claire, Brett and Katie came over to say "Hi" right soon after I got home and I was SO happy to see them and hear all about Brett and Katie starting school tomorrow.  It is very interesting to hear about how the school will function with all the construction work going on at Davis High.  Katie says that some of her classes will be held in temporary class rooms until the other ones will be finished.  They both have tremendous class loads and I told them I wouldn't expect to even see them all year - Katie is taking English, Biology, Algebra plus others I can't remember and Brett is taking English, Statistics, Government, and others I can't remember and they are all AP courses - SMART KIDS!!!  I am very proud of all my grandchildren who are excited about school starting and anxious to start studying again.  I wish I had taken notes so I could remember all the classes they are taking.  Claire - I LOVED the pictures of Laura celebrating her birthday with an "ice cream decorated" car - WHAT A WASTE OF GOOD ICE CREAM - Ha!!!  It reminded me of when they decorated Elder Stucki's car in Montana with oreo cookies.

Bob, Michael and Laura just came home from a backpacking trip in the Windriver Mountains in Wyoming and they hiked 35 miles into their first destination.  They do this every year and I'm SO proud they enjoy the outdoors like this and eating kinda' strange food.  I laughed tonight as I listened to Katie and Brett talk about having to eat freeze dry foods on their backpacking trips with their Dad - I believe the food has improved since they went on these trips - Ha!!!  Michael has been in St. George this weekend with a friend/girl for some kind of an activity and Laura has been in Washington State with a friend (girl).

Ricky - THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the work you did on my "Family History Picture Project" while I have been gone during the last couple weeks.  I appreciate you more than you will ever know because I know that has to have been a very boring job - maybe if you learned that you don't want to spend the rest of your life sitting in front of a computer then it has been worth it.  I also thank you for watering my flower pots and bringing in my mail and papers - I felt so good knowing you were taking care of things for me.  I hope SO much that you will get REALLY involved in your school activities and have a WONDERFUL year.

Annie - THANK YOU FOR YOUR LETTER.  WOW!!!  Grandpa Russ celebrating his 87th birthday - I'm so glad you were able to go help him greet his friends in a park in Jerome.  I surely do admire him for being so active and healthy at his age and I hope he stays that way for a long, long time.  I can just imagine how much the people Russ is working for enjoy him - he is a joy to be around!!!  I kinda' hope he doesn't get the MTC job so he will maybe drop by to see me occasionally if he decides to attend Utah State next year.  I definetly want to see Jim play at least one game for Timpview - I will always be happy I made it to one of Russ' games.  I am wondering if you have your teaching schedule for next year - I hope you will be assigned a teacher in Davis County so I will get to see you some time.

Boyd - congratulations on your second place win in the Utah Open golf tournament last week - THAT'S JUST GREAT!!!  Some of my friends in Star Valley were pulling for Boyd to win and we couldn't get any news so I finally called Jeannie to find out how Boyd did.  She said he was happy with the way he had played and there was only one stroke difference in first & second place.  Jean and Rick were in Vail, Colorado that weekend so they missed watching him play but Mary Ann & David were there and they helped with little Preston.  Ricky caddied for Boyd.

John - I was SO happy to talk to you during the week.  I was concerned about the picture project so I called John and he told me he had talked to Ricky and things were going well - I get SO homesick for my family when I am gone for that long and I just had to call John to see if things were normal - Ha!!!  He said he is doing good.  I also appreciate your phone message and I'll let you know when I get the commentaries written aside each of the scanned pictures.

I haven't heard from the Roys this week - things are mighty exciting and hectic at their home right now with three children going to three different schools plus all their extra-curricular activities.  I hope SO much they are as happy with their schools and their teachers as they have been in the past - I will always love Little Rock and I think the education my "kids" got there was GREAT.

Star Valley was SO cool and WONDERFUL.  We spend alot of our time on Margaret's patio and we have to wear sweaters - we eat all our evening meals out there and it is very special.  She had all kinds of people working on her home while we were there - she had her carpets cleaned and it cost her $900.00!!!  She has over 8,000 square feet in her home and that's alot of carpet.  She had people come to repair her roof where the chimney is because it has leaked for the last 12 years - they had to use a scaffold and there were six men there for three days.  She had two men come to put in a new cable program in her television system and they were such alot of fun to be around.  They cooked a Dutch oven dinner for us one night and they told me how to do it - I'm gong to try it in the bar-b-cue grill that belongs to John but is on my patio and I think I will be able to do it.  The only problem is that it is not low calorie and I don't know who in my family will eat it - maybe some of my grandsons!!!

We went to the "Bar J Wrangler" program one night in Jackson Hole and I just loved that.  Those singers are absolutely wonderful and they serve a chuckwagon dinner before the program - bar-b-cue beef, beans, baked potatoe, rolls, applesauce and spice cake.  We went shopping in Jackson Hole before going to the program and that's always fun.

We also went shopping in Alpine - there is a gift store there that Margaret keeps in business - Ha!!!  They have cute things there and it's always fun to go.  The country side is just beautiful - they had two huge rainstorms while we were there and things are green and pretty.  The men spend quite a bit of time golfing - one day two of the women went golfing and I was happy to stay home and work on putting some pictures on paper so they could be scanned sometime.  I haven't put any pictures in albums since coming home from Thailand - I have just put them in a box so I had to sort them out.

There have been four condos for sale in this area and they have sold three within this past week.  Two single men have bought two of them and a couple about my age has bought the other one.  I hope things work out well.  One of the single men is divorced and has a five year old daughter - it will be good to have some young people around.  My young airline hostess neighbor is completely remodeling her home and it is beautiful - she is so thrilled!!!  I'm glad I am contented to enjoy mine the way it is.

I hope you're all doing good - I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO .  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
