Dearest Family,
This has been an interesting afternoon for
me. I came home from church about 3:45 and started to read the paper
when I almost fell asleep and I thought "there is no reason for me to
not take a little nap" so I went downstairs to sleep under a flannel
blanket when it is 98 degrees outside - two hours later the phone rang
and it was Margaret. I probably won't sleep tonight but maybe I will.
Margaret and I were going to go to Star Valley tomorrow but she called
to tell me we won't go until Tuesday morning - then we will come home on
Thursday evening and go back on Saturday afternoon. Margaret has to
keep "on the go" one way or another and she is so much fun to be with
but I'm content to just "stay put" - Ha!!!
Jeannie, Rick and Ricky just left - they
came over for a little visit and I love it when my family does that.
Ricky has been in Oregon this past week to attend the wedding of one of
his friends and just came home this afternoon - he says he will be able
to work on my "family history picture project this week". He has done
20 albums and there are probably about that many more because some of
the albums have LOTS of pictures in them. Jean and Rick have been in
Star Valley for the last couple days and they brought me one of the most
interesting desserts I have ever seen - a fresh apple dipped in caramel,
then covered with chocolate, nuts and coconut. Jeannie cut it for me
and it is just delicious!!! I have to laugh at my efforts to lose
weight - one day this week Martha and her friend Marty spent the day
cooking and brought me dinner - that King's Ranch Mexican casserole and
bread pudding and I'm sure there were 500 calories in every spoonful and
then this fabulous chocolate, caramel apple ---- OH WELL!!!!
Bob and Claire came over last Sunday and we
had such a fun evening. Claire had made a video of your Lake Powell
trip and it was like watching a television spectacular except that I
recognized the people in it. The scenes of all of you water skiing and
falling and then falling some more made me very proud of your
persistence and also your physical capabilities. Annie who was never
very interested in sports has turned out to be very athletic and
talented in skiing and the video of all that made me so happy and also
very surprised. I want to visit with Michael and ask him about the
young woman he is dating who is from Brigham City - he is dating LOTS of
young women!!!
Annie - thanks for your newsy letter. I
worry about Jim doing football in this terribly HOT weather. I heard on
the news that they had to stop the BYU players from practicing because
of lightning. Our weather has been HOT, HOT, HOT all Summer - I talked
to a friend this week and she said "I hope we completely wear out our
snow blower this Winter" - I believe everyone in Utah agrees with that.
I know Jim and his coach will be careful. It's great to have alot of
help from Lee Anna and Russell - your home and yard will be completely
organized and clean by the time Summer is over.
John - thanks for your phone call. I'm glad
you are doing good and I appreciate all you do for me - he has set up an
appointment with the attorney Bob recommended to go over my trust. I
can't remember when it is but I believe it is the last of August and
John said he will let me know for sure. John likes to go hiking up in
the mountains with Tar but I worry when he goes alone. Last week there
was a hiker lost in the Cottonwood Area and people around here kept
speculating that a grizzly bear had gotten him - John has promised me
that he won't go alone anymore. As it turned out that hiker lost his
footing as he was taking some pictures with his tripod and camera and
fell 100 feet to his death.
Roy - it was fun to talk to you and
especially to visit with Emily and Jesse for a little while. Jesse
answered the phone when I called and he said, very excitedly, "Emily is
home, do you want to talk to her?" She is so greatly loved and missed
in her family and I know they are happy to have her home. She said she
really learned alot in her school and she had great teachers - she
studied psychology and philosophy. They will all be getting ready to
start back to school soon and I believe I heard Patrice say that Jesse's
school has been air conditioned this Summer and THAT IS WONDERFUL!!! I
have been looking at pictures this week of the time I visited his school
when Emily was a student there - I just love that school.
This week has been a fun and busy week for
me. I went to the Rodger's Theatre in Centerville to see "Civil War"
and it was just excellent. There were many black players in it and I
can honestly say I have never seen such outstanding talent - someone
told me that the producer of the play goes to a church in Salt Lake City
that has a large black congregation and talks to their choir director
and chooses their good singers. They weren't only good vocalists, they
could dance and act too. It's amazing to me that all these actors and
actresses are on a volunteer basis and they must spend hours and hours
practicing.
I went to Salt Lake on Friday to attend the
wedding of the son of Tony & Viola Munk, friends from our Little Rock
days. It was a civil ceremony at "The Shalimar" reception place and it
was just beautiful. The Bishop from their singles ward at the
University of Utah performed the ceremony and he was GREAT. The bride
was beautiful in a gorgeous gown with a long train and she walked down a
long flight of stairs - I worried that she might fall. My friends,
Linda Smithers ? and Barbara Sondrup didn't come so I didn't know anyone
except Tony, Viola and their daughters. I don't like to be in Salt Lake
when it gets dark so I didn't stay for the reception but I'm glad I went
for their wedding. It was funny - I told Jeannie & Rick tonight that it
was the first civil wedding I had been to since Pam Olinghouse's wedding
in Little Rock over 25 years ago. Jeannie quickly reminded me that I
had been to their wedding and also Roy & Patrices' civil weddings - OH
ME!!!
Barji - thanks for your sweet letter and
print out and Susanna - thanks for your message and new e-mail address.
I think about all my wonderful grandchildren all the time - I want you
to all have great successes.
That's all the news - I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU
SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU
DO -- Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
