Weekly Report June 1, 2003

Dearest Family,

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHN ON FRIDAY - JUNE 6TH.  I HOPE YOU HAVE A VERY WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY - I believe he is going on a camping trip.  He came yesterday and borrowed Bob's trailer to go to the Uintahs - it was SO hot while he was here and I told him he was going to cook but he reminded me that the elevation is 8,000 ft. in the mountains there so it will be cool.  The most fun our family had when all of you were young and at home was to go camping and I'm glad John still loves it!!!

I just came home from Sarah's seminary graduation and it was SO NICE!!!  It was held on a Stake basis and there are 8 wards in that stake and many graduating students and Sarah was the VERY LAST one to be given her diploma - I turned to Jeannie and said, "I'll bet she marries an Anderson" - Ha!!!  She looked SO beautiful and her friend boy was there to take her home.  It makes me kinda' sad when I think that Sarah's graduations will be the end of activities that I will attend for the Weinert Family - I am SO grateful that I have been able to go to so many D'Ette, Cheerleading and other High School activities but I'll continue to go to things in other places for them.

I was SO happy when I drove home tonight to find Bob's car in my driveway and he had just arrived.  I couldn't get the screen on my computer the way I wanted it so he helped me with that and also updated the anti-virus thing and then Claire came and we had a good visit.  They always have their family home evenings on Sunday night and I worry that they stayed here too long.  Claire had had a birthday party for her Father last night and the college "kids" were home for it and she had put some pictures on the internet - they have ALOT of fun at their home!!!

John was SO much help yesterday.  Last Thursday morning I was awakened to the noise of water running - it's a good thing I was sleeping downstairs.  One of the sprinkler heads in the back of my condo had broken and you wouldn't believe all the water coming in through the window well.  I hurried and called the manager of the condos and he turned the water off - and then put a little hose in the window to drain the water.  I mopped and mopped and I have had a fan going in the bathroom and it's dry now.  John said he could fix the sprinkler so he did and he did such a good job - I really don't believe our condo manager knew how to do it.  John also put caulking all along the top of the window well and I appreciate it SO much.  It scares me when I think what could have happened if I had not been home - I was in Star Valley for three days just a few days before this happened and it would have ruined my basement.

I had a WONDERFUL time in Star Valley.  The young man who died was an outstanding athlete from BYU and also Afton, Wyoming - he had broken many athletic records and they displayed large pictures of him in the different events.  The church sent a representative from the Quorum of Seventies and BYU sent a representative from the Athletic Department and they both spoke.  The funeral was almost three hours long - his coaches and teachers also spoke.  Margaret and I have fun together and her home is SO beautiful!!!  We came home on Tuesday.

Margaret called me Tuesday night and said she had read in the paper about a friend of mine whose sister had died in Brigham City and her funeral was on Wednesday.  Many of you will remember the Haggard family from our Phoenix days.  Renee Haggard and I were close friends in Brigham City and also in Phoenix and her husband was our doctor there - Jerry Haggard.  Their children were the ages of Jean, Bob and Roy - Christy, Mark and Courte.  Anyway I decided to drive to Brigham and go to the cemetery and I was REALLY surprised when I saw Renee - she looks younger now than she did in Phoenix and is beautiful.  Her son Mark wanted to know how "Bobby" was - he remembered everything about our family but I'm not sure Renee ever did know who I was.  It was fun to visit with Mark - they live in Salt Lake now.  Renee's sister Tess lived right across the street from my parents in Brigham City and she and my mother were very close.  Tess is also very beautiful and I'm not sure she knew who I was either but her son Brett remembered Hilda and Bill and he said they always decorate their graves on Memorial Day.

After I got my "flood mess" cleaned up on Thursday Patt Guthrie, Margaret and I drove to Lehi so I could pick up the missionary flag from Lynn's grave.  We had SO much fun!!!  I had told them about the Broadbent's store in Lehi and had shown them an article about that store that was in the paper awhile ago.  Those of you who can go to Lehi REALLY need to visit that store - it is "one of a kind" and just wonderful.  My friends, Alice and John Broadbent have retired and they weren't there and I was disappointed about that but their daughter, Nan, is managing it for them and she is doing a super job.  Nan's daughter is the one who bought Aunt Marvel's old home and I asked about her and they said she is doing really good and has not remarried - you remember that her husband was bucked off his horse on that driveway at that house and was killed about five years ago.  It was really a trip down memory lane and I LOVED IT.  I walked to the back of the store to see if they still carried Merle Norman Cosmetics because I remembered that Ann and Jean used to buy it there when they would visit Aunt Marvel and they still carry it.

Jeannie told me tonight that Grandpa Russ is in a rehabilitation center after his knee surgery and is doing good - knowing him, he will be up and around and wanting to go home to Jerome REALLY soon.  Steve's brother was married on Friday night and his entire family came from Florida and Steve, Susanna and Jackson came from Phoenix.  Jeannie said it was very nice.  I am disappointed that I didn't get to see Steve's Aunt Betty - she was SO nice to me when we visited the Reeves in Florida and I had looked forward to having lunch or something with her.  I know they had a full schedule while they were here.

Boyd - I was SO proud of you for doing so well in the recent golf tournament here in Utah - WAY TO GO!!!

Roy - do you remember Courte (sp.?) Haggard from our Phoenix days.  Renee said he is a dentist living in California.  I have some WONDERFUL pictures from my visit to Little Rock and will send them soon.

Russell - I didn't get my letter mailed to you last week - SORRY!!!  I'll mail two tomorrow.  I don't know how long it takes to get to Madagascar so maybe these will be the last ones I'll send.

That's all the news.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
