Weekly Report April 27, 2003

Dearest Family,

We are having a very unusual Spring - warm and beautiful one day and stormy and cold the next!!!   We can't complain because we need the water so desperately.  It's the kind of weather where I don't like to turn the furnace on in the morning because by afternoon it is HOT!!!

I hope you're all doing good.  Jeannie came over last week when they got home from Hawaii and she told me about their trip and it sounded WONDERFUL.  They rented a convertible car to ride around in and see the sites.  She said Sarah was so much fun to be with and just content to do the things they planned - they went to the Polynesian Center and I wish I had reminded her to look for Aunt Carol.  I believe she and Bill are coming home in May.  They also went to Pearl Harbor and saw all the historical things they could see.  She said they had special meals and I laughed when she told me how much Rick enjoyed having pancakes, sausage and eggs for breakfast while she and Sarah were happy with bagels and orange juice.  That reminded me SO much of Lynn and John when we used to go on trips and they would have breakfasts like that and I would just watch them eat - Ha!!!

Bob and Brett came over yesterday for a little while.  Bob, Michael and Laura are going to Italy next Saturday and then Claire and Katie are going to meet them the following week.  Brett has drum line practices so he won't be able to go.  I am SO happy they are going to be able to go see the places where Michael served on his mission.  I believe I have heard Bob and Claire say they like Italy better than any other place they have visited.

Annie - thank you SO much for the pictures of our little "outing" at Tasties.  I should have pictures of that time too but I haven't taken my film in yet - I'm trying to not take so many pictures so I have an unfinished roll in my camera.  I'll take pictures while I am in Little Rock and then have them all developed.  I LOVE the ones of me with Preston and Jackson - I haven't seen them for awhile and I know how fast they grow at this age.  Jeannie had to go into Salt Lake one afternoon last week and she said she saw Susanna strolling Jackson - they are so close and yet so far away.  I know they are enjoying living quite close to alot of the activity in Salt Lake.

I hope your humanitarian project goes well on Thursday Annie - that is such a BIG job and I know you will have LOTS of help but it's hard to be in charge of things like that.  I believe they are going to make hygiene kits to send to foreign countries.  I have helped with those in our stake and it takes ALOT of organizing - I've always been on the "easy end" of the project.  The Women's Conference at BYU is a BIG event and they talked about it in Relief Society today.

John - how's Tar????  It seems like there have been many pictures and articles about Labradors in our papers lately - maybe it's because I have been thinking about Tar and have noticed them more.  I hope he has some shelter because it has rained ALOT!!!

I'm looking forward to being with the Roy Mellors for a few days.  There have been tornado warnings in the Arkansas area - it's that time of year.  I had an e-mail letter and pictures from Dana Woods Adams this week - they have two new little baby goats and the pictures were of them.  Their son, Shawn milks them and when I wrote and asked what they did with the milk Dana said if the four legged kids didn't need it then the two legged kids did - Ha!!!

I went to our Stake Women's Conference on Thursday night and the main speaker was Dr. John Lund.  He gave one of the best talks I have ever heard.  He talked about how many sisters seem to think they have to do EVERYTHING PERFECTLY and he even said "perfectionism" is the doctrine of the devil.  That was music to my ears - Ha!!!  The whole theme of his talk was "Love much and then do the best you can do".

Claire - thank you for your letter and the pictures.  Claire's niece, Sarah, was married about a year ago and now she is pregnant and moving to Missouri.  They have bought a home there and they paid $4,000.00 for it - it was put up for auction or something like that.  I surely do admire that young couple for their "adventurous spirit" - I worry about the Missouri heat especially with Sarah's pregnancy this Summer - BUT THEY ARE YOUNG AND IN LOVE!!!

Russell - I'm SO glad that Sister Tippetts has recovered and will be able to return home to Afton, Wyoming this week.  Margaret loans me her newspapers from Star Valley and if I see the article about her coming home I'll save it for you.  I go to Afton very often - Margaret's home is in Etna and it is close to Afton.  You are a very busy missionary and that's GOOD!!!  I imagine you will be "going out in the field" before long and you won't have all the responsibility of being an assistant to President Hill.  You have surely had many experiences.  I think about all the world events you have missed and you will have alot to catch up on.

That's all the news.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXOOOOOOO
