Dearest Family,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KATIE TOMORROW - 15 years old!!!  Their family celebrated her birthday today - Michael and Laura both came home from Logan and Claire was making her favorite dinner - French dip sandwiches and I'm sure a birthday cake.  I don't know how Katie could squeeze one more thing into her life - she is trying out for cheerleading this week and that's SO stressful!!!  I hope you have a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!!!

SUSANNA - it was SO good to talk to you this morning and I'm VERY happy you are living closer to me.  I would love to care for Jackson some time so you could have a little break - I'll get my "playpen" out to see if it is still safe - I have stored it for many, many years so it may be too old and if it is I'll throw it away and get another one or I could go to your home to take care of him.  Susanna and Steve are in a small house that is close to the State Capitol in Salt Lake and they like it.  JESSIE - I'm SO happy you were able to come home this weekend and also happy that your Mom could go to San Diego and meet your eye doctor.  I just know that with all the "up to date" medical care for eyes that you will be able to get the help you need.  RON - Thank you so much for taking the pictures of the Montana Mission Home and the Billings temple while you were in Billings last week - I JUST LOVE THEM.  Ron went into the Mission Home to get the directions to the temple and when he told them he wanted to take pictures for a former Mission President's wife, the lady he talked to said the missionaries and Mission Presidents during the time we were there paved the way for the building of the temple - WHAT A NICE THING FOR HER TO SAY.

I just came home from having dinner with the Weinerts - EVERYONE was there and that was SO NICE!!!  RICKY had brought a friend girl from Logan and she is darling - Marty Hyer from Lewiston.  BOYD, BARJI AND PRESTON were there and that little Preston is still such a good baby.  He NEVER cries and is just content to be with people.  MARY ANN AND DAVID were there and they told about their new little "kitty" - David had cats when he was growing up and as Jeannie says, "He knows all about them" - Ha!!!  SARAH was there too and it's hard for me to believe she will be graduating in the Spring.  The Young Women and Young Men in their ward met with Elder Hale of the Quorum of the Twelve and Sarah told us about that - it was special.

BRETT AND BOB - Thank you SO much for all your help yesterday.  They came over in the afternoon and made a place for my 50 gallon container of water for preparedness and THEN they trimmed and sprayed my apple tree.  This is the saga of my apple tree:  when we got a new manager in the condos last year he didn't trim my tree and when I asked him about it, he said that was not in his contract.  It was too late at that time to trim it so I just waited until March of this year when it was supposed to be trimmed - he still didn't do it and when I talked to him about it, he said he didn't know how.  I called a tree service but they didn't ever come.  Margaret kept telling me that it was not my apple tree - that it belonged to the association and I couldn't have it trimmed or sprayed.  I have lived here for five years and each year I have big beautiful apples that are all wormy.  I talked to Bob about it and he said he had a trimmer SO he and Brett trimmed it for me yesterday and I AM SO HAPPY.  The tree has to be sprayed five times and I'm just going to do that and let them penalize me - it seems SO irresponsible to not do anything about it.

BOB AND CLAIRE invited to me to go to such a special thing last night.  The Davis High School Band had a fund raising dinner dance called "Moonlight Serenade" and I have never been to a nicer event.  The jazz band played Glenn Miller music and some of the students sang and danced - there were two drummers who played with the band and Brett was one of them - you did such a good job Brett.  IT WAS OUTSTANDING!!!  It was a very elegant affair and they served one of the best dinners I have ever eaten - Claire's parents, Bob & Alice Ezell, were there also and we were seated at a lovely table.  Bob and I had halibut and the others had prime rib and the servings were SO generous with baked potatoes, green salad, sour cream, etc. and then cheese cake for dessert.  Bob also ordered daiquiris (sp.?) for us - strawberry and besides being so pretty they were heavenly.

I was amazed at the decorations - it was held in the school cafeteria and I have never been there.  They had the most detailed "skyline" backdrops and then large silhouettes of dancers all around and trees with those little lights on them all lined up at the entrance and also inside.  The band members who were not in the jazz band served everyone.  Most of the people who were there danced in the middle of the room - I COULDN'T GET ANYONE TO DANCE WITH ME - Ha!!!  IT WAS JUST A WONDERFUL AFFAIR AND I LOVED IT.

I had a GREAT time in Star Valley - we played dominoes, did handwork, watched videos and ate.  Margaret has a large fireplace in her living room and it was SO fun to sit by it and just enjoy life - I always feel SO guilty wasting time like that and I'm always glad to get home.  We went into Afton one day and Mary Ann Holman and I went to the Family History Library.  I couldn't believe all the genealogy I was able to get - they have improved that alot since I was in a library many years ago.  Mary Ann is a professional genealogist and helped me alot and then when she got to her home in Brigham City she accessed more of my family's genealogy on her personal computer and sent it to me.  I'm quite ashamed that I don't know more about my relatives than I do.  Bob - I need to check with you and see if you have the same things she sent to me.  She will help me when we both find time to go to the library in Brigham City.

We got home from Wyoming just in time to go to the Rodger's Memorial Theatre to see a program of singing and dancing - Gershwin music.  They do such a good job at the Theatre and it is all volunteering - the performers were professional and I really enjoyed it.

I watch alot of the war news on television and I am horrified when I hear about another helicopter crash killing all the people in it.  I don't know if they just keep repeating the same news or if there are really that many crashes.  It is going to last much longer than most people thought.  I worry about the missionaries - I know it must be very difficult for Russell and the others to be confined to their apartments for long periods of time.  HANG IN THERE RUSSELL!!!

That's all the news, I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma BXXXXXXXXOOOOOO
