Dearest Family,

I just came home from Sacrament Meeting in the 6th Ward - I am going to Star Valley at noon and their meetings are at 8:30 and my ward meetings aren't until 12:30 so I went there.  I haven't even packed yet so this will be a short letter.

I had such a WONDERFUL afternoon yesterday and I want to write about it.  Claire is in St. George with Katie for a dance "thing" and Brett was going to perform at the Lone Peak School in Alpine so Bob invited me to go with him to that and to spend some time looking over the Lehi property.  I still can't believe that Bob gave me his entire afternoon and evening and he wasn't one bit "hurried".  The 26 acres has just been recently mowed so we could drive right into the middle of it and he stopped his car and we just sat and truly enjoyed EVERYTHING and Stan has moved his cattle so they weren't there.  We checked on the well and it is running but not very strong.  Then we went to the 4.86 acre place and Bob unhooked the gate and he drove in a little ways but there were SO many "cow dungs" that we decided to walk instead of drive.  They have put a very nice fence along the north side of the property and we could see where they are starting the housing development.  We checked on the well there too and it was really flowing.

THEN we went to my Grandparents' old home and stopped to visit with the people who live there.  WHAT A DISGRACE that place is but the people are nice.  The wife wasn't there but her husband told us she worked at the Chevron Station so we went there and I gave her some more money to have her send me some pictures that were taken many, many years ago.  ROY - you and I talked to their neighbors one day and I gave him $5.00 for mailing the pictures to me but they didn't ever do it.  The lady at Chevrons yesterday said she had lost my address but she found the pictures so I gave her a little bit more money and hopefully she will send them to me.

THEN we went to Aunt Marvel's old home and the neighbors are getting ready to plant their garden - there are some "junky" things on the lot but that isn't unusual for Lehi.  Things will change in the future and I will sell that.  We stopped at Wendys to get something to eat and then we went to Alpine.

ANNIE AND JIMMY - came to see the exhibition that Brett performed in and it was absolutely WONDERFUL to visit with them.  Jimmy seems to grow each time I see him.  We ate popcorn, cookies and drank pop and just had SO much fun!!!  They had moved Susanna and Steve into their own apartment in Salt Lake that day - close to the Capitol.  Steve plans to go to graduate school in the Fall and it is close to the L.D.S. Hospital so Susanna will be able to work some if she wants.  She just passed her "Board Examinations" so she is a full fledged qualified registered nurse - I'm proud of you Sus!!!

I have been concerned about my income tax because I mailed it to Joe Larsen the CPA who does it for me - he hadn't notified me that he had received it.  I thought maybe his office would be open but since it was in Provo, Bob suggested we call him - THAT WAS JUST TOO EASY!!!  He got his phone number and Joe was there and I talked to him - he had received the things and answered some questions I had.  So many things taken care of in one afternoon - WOW!!!

EMILY - I loved your birthday picture - beautiful young woman and beautiful birthday cake.  I love your earrings!!!  I watched the "McArthur Murder Case' on television the other day and it made me homesick for Little Rock.  Chris called me to tell me that Helen Bridges had died - she had some kind of surgery and passed away from complications.  She was Daddy's age - 83 this year.

I had my D.U.P. meeting on Wednesday and we met at a woman's home up in the hills of Farmington in a beautiful spot - Ora Kirkham and she is from Lehi originally.  It was a GREAT meeting - the women in that group are the "salt of the earth" kind of women and I love them.

I went to the Wells Fargo Building in Salt Lake on Wednesday night for the Utah State Alumni meeting where they honored Margaret for her service to Utah State University.  It was an elegant affair and I sat at the table with Margaret's family - I hate it when the tables are set for couples but they made me feel very welcome.  The President of Utah State was a Dean at North Carolina State before coming to Utah and I had an opportunity to visit with him.  I told him that my husband had received his Ph.D. at N.C. State before he was born but he was very gracious and seemed interested.  He said they are still giving the E.G. Moss fellowship - Lynn was the first one to receive that - it is given to outstanding graduate students in the field of agriculture.  He also remembered Lynn's graduate professor, D.B. Anderson, who is a famous plant physiologist. It was a VERY special evening!!!

I had a letter from Jeannie this morning - Boyd and Barji are home from California for a little while - Sarah is in St. George with some friends because she doesn't have school on Monday - Ricky is trying to decide where to do an "internship" this Summer (Jeannie wants him to do it in Utah so he can live at home), Mary Ann and David are doing fine and going to the Weinerts with the rest of the family for dinner today.  Boyd's brother, Danny, is going to Chile on his mission - maybe he will be in the same areas where you served John.

John had a phone call from one of his friends from BYU and I visited with her for a little while.  Her name is Julie Dutton Hoover and she and her husband and family have just moved to Little Rock.  He is a radiologist and they have bought a home in Pleasant Valley or close to it and she says she just loves it - I remember those days.  They are good friends of the Piersons - do any of you remember them?  He is Stake President there now - he is at one of the medical centers in Little Rock as "Head Man" but I can't remember his title or the hospital.  NICE PEOPLE!

Russell - you will just barely get home in time to go to Lake Powell.  Lynn HATED it when the families of the Montana Missionaries mentioned ANYTHING about them going home so please forgive me.  When Annie told me about their schedules the last of July (or is it June) my head started to spin - Jimmy going to Guatemala at the same time Ann & Ron are going to Madagascar - all the packing and planning is beyond me.

I can't end my letter without mentioning the war.  I listened to the news about it on television this morning and I can't tell what is going on.  It makes me heartsick to learn about the young men on the front lines being injured and killed - it was to be expected but it is still VERY, VERY SAD!!!

I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOO
