Weekly Report February 22, 2003

Dearest Family,

I'm writing my letter tonight because I am going to go to Star Valley in the morning.  Margaret said we wouldn't go until Monday if it snowed today - it did snow but I haven't heard from her so I really don't know when we're going.  I would prefer to wait until Monday but she's the driver!!!  She wants to go get her television sets fixed and this week is the only time her t.v. repairman can come - I believe Mary Ann Holman and I will be the only ones going with her.

I have talked to the Bob Mellors, the Weinerts and John this week so I'll write a little of their news.

Laura and Michael were home last weekend because of the President's Day Holiday and their family played fun games.  One of their original games was a contest to see who could put the most marshmallows in their mouths!!!  That sounds fun and harmless - I don't know of anyone who has ever choked on a marshmallow.  They also played some dominoe games - I love parlor games but Lynn didn't like them one bit so our family didn't spend much time playing them.

I stopped in to see Jeannie one afternoon and she was busy putting a quilt top together for a bridal shower she is having tonight for one of Mary Ann's friends - it was darling material.  She was also planning a dinner for the Young Women and Young Men in their ward and they were going to talk about good etiquette.  I'm sure Jean and Rick went to the basketball game with Sarah last night and I heard Davis lost - they have won most of their games so that's sad!!!

John is doing good and says he REALLY enjoys his work.  He hasn't sold his Orem home yet and I know that has to be a worry.  All the investment talk is about how a home is the best investment you can make right now with the interest rates being low - hopefully it will sell in the Spring when more people are looking for family homes.

I have had a busy week but a fun one.  Last Monday I went to lunch with Dianne Powers and Linda Smithers Stringfellow.  They accomodated me by going at 11 a.m. because I had said I would be a docent at the D.U.P. Museum in Salt Lake from 1 'til 5.  We had to hurry with our lunch and then I raced to get to the museum only to find a "Closed-Holiday" sign on the door.  My friend who was going with me was nowhere in sight and I had promised her I would take her home.  I was worried about her so I raced back to Farmington to go to her home - her plans had changed and she drove to the museum instead of having her husband drop her off and when she found out it was closed she just went back home.  I was frustrated to say the least.

Dianne and Garry love their townhouse in Cottonwood.  She said she had had fun decorating it with everything new and I'm anxious to see it.  Linda says her apartment is getting mighty small with two people living in it - she hasn't had a husband for a long, long time.  Bill is undergoing chemotherapy treatments and she says he is very anemic.  I have a difficult time understanding that situation.

We had our D.U.P. meeting on Wednesday and it was held in the home of one of our members and I LOVE her home.  It is on main street in Farmington and is very old but very classy - her name is Ruth Moon and she isn't in good health.  We had about 17 members come and one of them had made 4 cherry pies - they were delicious.  She is known as the "Pie Lady" of Davis County and she told me that the day before our meeting she had made 61 pies!!!

They have spent alot of time in our church meetings encouraging the members to write their journals - especially "The Small Plates" (from Book of Mormon History) which would be the spiritual plates.  I thought about my journals and they are anything but spiritual - Ha!!!

The National News this past week has been sad.  A fire in a nightclub in Chicago killed about 20 people and a fire in a nightclub in New Jersey killed about 100.  I'm SO glad I don't have any children or grandchildren who would go to a place like that where they had "indoor" fireworks.
The war with Iraq is always in the headlines and a mystery to me.

That's all the news - I think!!!  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!  Grandma B XXXXXOOOOO
