Weekly Report November 17, 2002

Dearest Family,

A beautiful Fall day here in Utah - I believe we are supposed to be having Winter and it's cool but the sun is out and it is SO pretty.  There is snow in the mountains though and the ski slopes are open so it won't be long before we will have snow in the valleys.

Bob - are you home from Guatemala?  I hope so and I hope everything went exactly as you wanted it to and I also hope you will find time to write a report of your week.  I have enjoyed those reports SO much and have missed them this time.  I have an idea that you didn't have access to a computer or something.  Claire - I have appreciated SO MUCH your messages and your help with my "family history" book.  I LOVED the little visit with you and Katie last Sunday night.

Jesse - I LOVED YOUR NOTE - thank you for writing to me.  I'm glad you are informed about the Harry Potter stories and movies - have you seen the latest one?  My neighbor, Margaret, has read all the books and she went to the latest movie last night but I have only seen the one that we looked at while you were here. I have heard the Roy Mellors talk about the "Heifer Project" often but I haven't really understood what it was all about.  I was reading the "News Journals" from Brigham City last week and was interested in an obituary of a man who had passed away there.  He requested that donations in his honor be sent to "Heifer International,1015 Louisiana Street, Little Rock, Ar."  The article went on to say "Heifer International provides farm animals to poor farmers all over the world".  That really enlightened me and I'm proud of your family for being involved.

John - thank you for your message.  I'll look forward to having you come sometime this week to get your mail.  I haven't seen you for a LONG time!!!

Annie - Thank you for your message too and Thanksgiving at your home will be WONDERFUL!!!  It will be so much fun to tie a quilt for Mary Ann that day - I always like things planned other than just eating.  We used to go on hikes but we haven't done that for several years.  I remember the time we walked to that little lake and picnic area close by where the Weinerts used to live and Lynn made wood whistles out of some tree limbs for the children who are now GROWN UP!!!
I hope Susanna, Steve and little Preston will have fun in Florida - it will be a GREAT time to be there.

Jeannie - Thank you for your message too and also our little short visit at your home as you were hurrying to awaken Sarah so you could go to your Young Women's activity.  I had gone over to their home and Sadie barked and barked when I went into their kitchen and Sarah was sound asleep on the floor in front of their fireplace - she looked SO comfortable and didn't even wake up.  This is such a busy, busy time for your family - I appreciate so very much your coming over last Sunday night too and making the favors for Mary Ann's bridal luncheon - Sarah and Rick helped too.  I'm looking forward to going to Mary Ann's shower tonight - David's sisters and sisters-in-law are giving her a shower at their home in Draper and it will be fun to meet his family.

I have had a busy and fun week.  Margaret called me one day and asked if I would like to ride to Brigham City with her.  She said, "I have to go to the Idle Isle for a candy run and then we'll come right back home". They have made REALLY good candy at the Idle Isle Restaurant in Brigham City for a hundred years and it has been a tradition in her family to have their candies for all the holidays.  She had ordered candy to be mailed to Chicago and other places where her family lives - I think that is SO neat - $300.00 worth and all dark chocolate!!!  Patt Guthrie went also and then we met another friend, Mary Ann Holman in Brigham City and we all had lunch together.  We walked up and down the main street in Brigham City and that brought back so many happy memories except that it was practically deserted - everyone goes to Ogden to shop so the stores that were so busy when I lived there are all empty - kinda' sad!!!  The Idle Isle was packed - it was a favorite restaurant many years ago and still is.

I went to the Roger's Theatre on Thursday night with the condo group and other friends and we saw "The LaMancha Man" - I am so illiterate that I wasn't familiar with the story but it was surely well done.  It was all about Don Quixote and Poncho Villa and I thought they were the same characters that Bob brought home from Colombia but I don't believe so - I think the play was purely fictional.  I'll have to try to access that from the internet and "get informed"!!!

Friday night I went to the "Boy Scout Auction" in Ogden.  Margaret's "foundation" supports that so she had a table for her friends and the food was just fabulous - it was at the Marriott Hotel.  It is a silent bid to benefit the Boy Scouts - I bid on several items but someone over bid me so I didn't get them and that was good.  I really wanted to bid on a Hammond Organ but I decided I wouldn't have a place for it if I won it - I believe it went for under $500.00.  Our friend, Darrell Guthrie bid on a "scooter" and he got that but he was the only one who got anything.  They auctioned off a live turkey - Marc Eaton threatened to chop its head off if it didn't sell so someone bid $500.  It was such a FUN night.

Last night, Saturday, I went to a dinner at Virginia's condo in Salt Lake for Marc and Cherri Hall and other Thai missionaries and I had a WONDERFUL time!!!  I picked up Janet Asper and we went together - there were ten of us and I hadn't seen some of them for many months so we had a good visit.  Marc and Cherri have been in Logan visiting their daughter and Cherri has been making a wedding dress for her granddaughter and also the bridesmaids' dresses.  They have put their papers in for another mission and expect a call probably in January - I feel SO guilty!!!

Margaret and other friends are going to Star Valley on Tuesday for the rest of the week.  I have D.U.P. on Wednesday and I am co-hostess so I can't go.  I am just too involved and will do things differently next year - it's dumb at my age to have so many commitments that I can't get out of.

Russell - I was VERY proud to tell all my Thai missionary friends about my grandson who is serving in Madagasgar.  I hope SO much that you will have some kind of a Thanksgiving but I'm pretty sure your dinner won't be turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes.  HANG IN THERE!!!

I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOO
Dearest Family,

I goofed and Barji said I could just write a note and say "OOPS".  I wrote that I hoped Susanna, Steve and little Preston would have a good time in Florida for Thanksgiving.  I should have said, Little Jackson - I'M SORRY!!!   I was standing outside waiting for Jean, Barji and Sarah to come by to take me to Mary Ann's shower when it hit me what I had done - I guess it's a plus when at least I remembered what I had done.  I'M GETTING SO OLD!!!  I LOVE YOU - Grandma B
