Dearest Family,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BOB ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER
13TH, - "30" SOMETHING, I BELIEVE!!! I know he will have a GREAT birthday
because he will be in Guatemala doing what he loves to do and I doubt anyone
he is with will know it is his birthday. I was SO happy to receive his
message this morning telling us he arrived safely and he was looking forward
to attending church where he will see the "Primary Program" put on in
Sacrament Meetings all over the world during this month - we had ours last
week. I hope your trip will be successful and the nurses with you will be
healthy and able to help.
I had to go into Bountiful this morning to
attend a temple training session from 9 'til about 10:30 but it was too late
when I got home to go to my meetings. I am going to go to Willard this
afternoon to a meeting where Helen Jane will speak for just a few minutes -
the new ruling for the church is to not have missionary farewells so they
can't call it a farewell - Ha!!! Helen Jane and her sister-in-law will be
able to take about 15 minutes of their Sacrament meeting. Ellen Mae and
probably Mel and I are going to go.
I always write my letters early on Sundays so
sometimes I miss writing about the most exciting part of my week. Last
Sunday evening Jean, Rick, Sarah, Barji and little Preston came over for a
visit and we had such a good time - that little Preston just can't stop
smiling. He is responding to everything and is so much fun to watch. Barji
was going to leave on Tuesday to go to San Jose, California to be with Boyd
this week. I can just imagine how much Boyd misses his little baby. They
were just leaving my condo when Katie and Brett drove in - it isn't often
that I have the opportunity to visit with my teenage grandchildren by
themselves and that was SO much fun!!! Bob and Claire came over shortly and
I FORCED them all to eat a "little" ice cream - all except Claire. I would
never have believed it would take me SO long to get rid of that ice cream -
maybe I'll learn sometime that my family doesn't eat things with calories in
them. I am reminded of the time during World War II when my Mother worked
at the PX (Post Exchange) at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City and
our family was absolutely ecstatic when she brought home a gallon of ice
cream and we ate it all in one night - Ha!!!
I know we are all disappointed for Annie that
she didn't win her school board election but the more I think about it, the
more I think it will be wonderful for her to spend the time she spent in her
school board meetings doing things for herself, Ron and their family - there
will be plenty of time for that sort of thing. I only hope she wasn't
serious when she said that was the end of her time doing political community
service - I know her better than that - you have too much to offer Ann!!!
Do any of you interpret dreams???? I had a
dream last night that Ann called me and asked me to go to Provo and plant
flowers for this woman who defeated her. I bought alot of yellow flowers
and when I went to plant them, they just fell out of their containers and
all that was left were the roots - I REALLY worked hard and finally got them
in the ground by the time she arrived home. There were small children
around watching me - I don't believe she thanked me - Ha!!! They tell us
that dreams have special meanings. ONE THING FOR SURE - WE ARE ALL VERY
PROUD OF YOU FOR HAVING 2,247 PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED YOU - the fact that she
beat you by just 42 points tells it all!!! I hope you and Ron had a SUPER
time in Hawaii!!!
I spent last Wednesday with Helen Jane and we
"HAD A BALL" talking about our teenage years together and visiting lots of
the places where had spent fun times. She showed me her farm and it was SO
interesting to hear about the things she and Roy (her husband) had done over
the years. They used to milk LOTS of cows and recently Roy converted their
"cow shed" into a little home for their migrant workers from Mexico and it
is right in back of their big house. They also had a small home before they
built their larger one and it is next to the "cow shed" and she rents that
to a young single man and his two children and then she has a trailer on
their property that she rents to a little family. She is surrounded by
other people but you wouldn't even know they were there because of beautiful
pine trees around her property. She and Roy were custodians for the Willard
church building for many years and she worked in Real Estate also. Her
former daughter-in-law is a prominent Utah Artist, Liz Lemon Swindle, and
Helen Jane has many of her original paintings in her home. She has seven
children and they will care for her home and property while she is in
Nauvoo.
Brett and Timothy - thank you SO much for your
notes - I LOVE THEM!!! Katie - I LOVE your expression "Holy Fun" - I can't
think of any thing better!!! I'm going to keep a "look out" for your name
on your school marquee announcing Katie Mellor as Student of the Month - I
want to take a picture of it. I think that's just GREAT and I'm proud of
you!!!
BEFORE I FORGET - it is getting close to the
time when you will all be shopping for gifts and I want you to know that I
DO NOT WANT ONE MONETARY THING FOR CHRISTMAS OR FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I don't
want you to forget me but what means the most to me is a phone call or a
picture or just anything that doesn't cost money. I don't need one thing
and if I did I would get it so PLEASE, PLEASE HONOR THAT!!!
I hope all the women in my family have received
your invitations to Mary Ann's Bridal Luncheon on Friday, November 29th at
12 o'clock noon at the Oakridge Country Club. It will be such a special
time and an opportunity to become acquainted with David's Mom, Grandmother
and his sisters and sisters-in-law - I hope you will all come!!!
Russell - I haven't received my big envelope
back from the Post Office so maybe Pouch Mail accepted it. I have LOTS of
other English Teaching Material if you think you could use it.
I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.
PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO - Grandma B
