Dearest Family,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER
2nd!!! I am SO proud of my 9 year old grandson and I LOVE his beautiful
happy smile - don't ever stop smiling Jesse!!! A smile will help you go
much further in life than anything else. I hope you have a WONDERFUL day on
Saturday - I know you will have LOTS of candy left from Halloween - Ha!!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO EACH OF YOU!!! I LOVE
Halloween and I have had my trick or treat candy for weeks - I always buy
the kind I like because I never know how many children will come so if I
have it left over I won't feel bad - Ha!!!
I didn't write my letter yesterday because I
went to Provo to attend the blessing of little Jackson and I wanted to tell
about it in this letter. Susanna had written to me earlier in the week and
said it would be at the Woolley's home in Provo at 5 p.m. Whenever I go
South I like to visit Daddy's grave in Lehi and also check on the property
in Lehi so I plan about two hours. I left at 3 p.m. because my church is
over at noon and Susanna called me with a change of plans at 3:30 so I
didn't get her message. I had just driven up to the Woolleys when Ann, Ron,
Lee Anna and Jimmy came driving by me to tell me to get in their car to go
back to Sandy - that was a miracle because I would never have been able to
find the church building where the blessing took place. Susanna and Steves'
Bishop wanted it done in their ward building which was the right thing to
do. Janet and Doyle Reeves had come from Florida on Friday and it was SO
good to see them - they are very special people!!!
This was funny - just as we drove into the
parking lot in Sandy, Ann turned to Ron and said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you
- Susanna wants you to give a spiritual thought tonight". He did a GREAT
job and Steve's father also did a GREAT job. Jimmy and Greg (Steve's
brother) gave the prayers and we sang the song "Teach Me to Walk in The
Light" - it was a WONDERFUL service. Chris and Shannon Rogers (the Reeves'
friends and neighbors in their apartment) were also there. It's fun for me
to be with Shannon because she and her family used to live in my ward in
Orem and right after Lynn died she and another young girl came over to visit
me often to "cheer me up". I LOVED being with Lee Anna too and she is just
too pretty - she has had about 8 inches cut from her hair and is a real
"knock out". Susanna is also SO pretty and very thin!!! Jimmy's football
team is in the "playoffs" and Shannon's brother is the star quarterback.
We all traveled back to Provo to have dinner at
the Woolleys' home and it was SO good - salmon from the grill, twice baked
potatoes, green salad, delicious fruit plate, and "Geise Bread" - the
Reeves had brought three fabulous pies from "Frontier Pies". They were all
very kind and didn't want me to drive back to Farmington in the dark so
Steve and his Dad drove my car, Janet, Susanna, Jackson and I rode in the
rented car and they brought me home - THAT WAS SO NICE. Steve gave Jackson
a beautiful blessing and Jackson is an absolutely beautiful baby boy. It
was a very happy day for me.
We're all excited about Annie's political future
- Ha!!! It was fun to be in their home last night and see all the
preparations for her campaign. As far as I'm concerned she has already won
- she has a flyer that will be passed out today with recommendations and
signatures from the most prominent people in Provo - WHAT AN
ACHIEVEMENT!!! It is always difficult to figure out how the political
process works - we're all pulling for you but won't be disappointed if you
lose. I LOVED seeing all her signs posted on almost every street corner and
on some marquees.
JOHN - Thank you SO very much for changing your
lunch time so you could meet me for lunch last Tuesday. One of our friends
and neighbors in Orem, Boyd Erickson, passed away and I wanted to go for his
funeral and visit with John on the same trip. John and I had lunch in one
of my favorite restaurants - a Mexican restaurant and it was delicious and
enough for my dinner that night too. John had taught Boyd's son, Phillip,
in Sunday School. After our lunch John took me to his place of work and WOW
am I ever impressed!!! It is much larger than I had expected and I saw his
friend, John Lant, again for the first time in probably 15 years. John
looks just GREAT and it was SO good to visit with him. I would like to see
Laura and Bren again too.
BOB AND CLAIRE - Thank you SO very much for
taking me to the "Davis Cup" on Tuesday night. That was surely a MEMORABLE
night that I won't soon forget!!! I had just come from Provo and had a
message from Claire telling me to call his office at 6:30 - she also
mentioned that it MIGHT rain so if I didn't want to go they would
understand. There were 26 bands from all over the State and one from
Ontario, Canada that performed in an absolutely fabulous competition. I
went to this same thing last year and I just LOVE it - this is all new to me
and so different from bands as I knew them when I was in the band with my
French horn - Ha!!! Their uniforms are so elaborate and their routines are
unbelievable as they play their instruments. I think the Davis High Band is
by far the very best - it is the largest band in Utah. American Fork won
the competition by a very small margin over Davis but the drum line won
first place and I was SO proud of Brett!!! IT STARTED TO RAIN ALMOST FROM
THE BEGINNING AND IT DIDN'T STOP FOR THREE HOURS AND I MEAN RAIN - NOT JUST
SPRINKLE!!! Bob had brought two umbrellas "just in case" and I had dressed
very warmly so I was comfortable but Bob just had on an overcoat and Claire
said she was freezing. I "Take My Hat Off" to every single band member and
their leaders - they didn't let the rain stop them and I worry about their
uniforms and their instruments because I know they were 'DRENCHED". I'm
SO glad I could go!!!
JEANNIE - Thank you for your invitation for
dinner yesterday with their "entire" family and also for your family update
this morning. You are all doing SO good and I'm very proud of you!!! Mary
Ann and David's wedding plans sound just WONDERFUL and I'm excited. I miss
seeing Ricky as often as I would like and I can imagine what a great help he
would be with your Young Women activities - he is such a handsome young man
- a real "heart throb"!!!
That's all the news and all the space - I LOVE
EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH - PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN
EVERYTHING YOU DO - Grandma B XO
