Weekly Report August 25, 2002

Dearest Family,

I just came home from Park City and I want to write my letter before I go to bed.  This has been a fun and busy week for me.

John - Thank you SO very much for taking me to West Canyon on Friday.  I have been concerned about the 5 acre parcel of land in Lehi that we have had some problems with.  I received the normal tax valuation forms for all the property except that one so I went to the County Courthouse in Provo.  When I examined it, it looked like we had lost about 1 1/2 acres when they changed the boundary lines last August.  I decided to go back to the Courthouse and have them make me a printout of the property line and I found out that I was wrong - we only lost from 5 acres to 4.76 which is quite normal.  John had called me in the meantime to just "check in" and I told him about it so he suggested I bring the "stuff" and he would go over it with me and he also said he would take me to West Canyon.  I tried to find it once before and couldn't and I think my car is "too low" so he said he would drive me in his truck.  We found the road without any problems and then the neatest thing happened - we rode and rode even though we weren't exactly sure where we were going and all of a sudden there was a truck coming from the canyon so we stopped to talk.  As it turned out - it was Morris Clark and his wife and they lease some of the canyon property from me.  We got all the information we needed from him so we can get a current key - they changed the lock about 4 years ago and I didn't even know about it.  I have thought about that every day since it happened - WHAT A COINCIDENCE FOR MORRIS TO GO THERE THE VERY SAME DAY WE DID!!!
John went over all the property stuff with me and assured me it was in good shape - he kept saying, "I know Ron would not have you sign something that would have you give up 1 1/2 acres of your property".  I am just a worrier I guess!!!

Roy - Thank you SO very much for writing to Jeannie so she could tell me about your family's trip to New York.  Patrice's sister's "in-laws" have a Summer Home on a beach close to New York so they all went to spend some time with Joan, her husband and their new little baby boy whom they adopted from Russia - it was the first time they had seen him.  They had a wonderful time and they also stayed right in Manhattan one night and saw the "sights" - Roy said Ground Zero was indescribable.  I'm SO glad you did that with your family!!!

Claire - Thank you SO very much for your e-mails and pictures of your family's activities this Summer.  It's wonderful that you are all enjoying your boat and sharing it with your children's friends.  I am betting you are REALLY looking forward to having school start tomorrow so you can have a "breather" from so much activitiy.  I get tired just looking at your pictures and it has been SO DARN HOT!!!

Jeannie - Thank you SO very much for your e-mails and for your visit tonight and I'm sorry I  wasn't home.  You have surely been busy traveling to Sun Valley to celebrate your wedding anniversary and then to Vail, Colorado for Rick's business trip and helping Barji with little Preston along with all your Young Women's Activities.  I'm thrilled for Mary Ann to have a nice apartment in a nice part of Salt Lake - she will definitely be where the "action is".  She is in an apartment close by "Gateway". I know she will enjoy the Univesity of Utah.  Barji and Boyd were in a "Midnight Madness" Golf tournament at Oakridge on Friday night and I know it must have been fun because they made ALOT of noise and were still going strong when I got up about 3:30 Saturday morning to go to the temple.  I couldn't believe it but Margaret said she didn't even hear them.

Annie - I haven't heard from you but I know you and Jessie have had LOTS of fun in San Diego.  I hope Jessie is settled in a nice place and is excited about starting work on her Master's Degree at San Diego State College.  I also hope Lee Anna is happy at BYU and that Jimmy is enjoying his football workouts - UGH!!!  I think Russell will be going back to Madagascar soon, don't you? I want SO much to see little Jackson - I also want to see how Susanna is enjoying "motherhood" and Steve "fatherhood".

Bob and Claire just dropped in to visit - I LOVE IT WHEN THEY DO THAT!!!  Claire brought a plate of DELICIOUS brownies so now I will fix me a cup of hot chocolate and have brownies before I go to bed.  Claire said they are full of calories but I have given up on trying to lose weight - it just isn't important to me!!!  They are going to go to Lake Powell on Wednesday and come home on Labor Day - Monday!!!  Bob says it is LOTS of fun now they have their own boat and they will just keep the houseboat on the buoy.

I went to Logan last Wednesday with some condo friends and we got rooms at the Utah State University Inn right on campus - we had such a good time.  We drove to Clarkston that night to see the Martin Harris Pageant and I thought it was excellent.  Do you all remember my talking about Marc & Cherri Hall?  He has just been released from being Mission President in Russia and they were in Logan visiting their daughter and had plans to go to the pageant the same night as we were going to be there.  One of my condo friends also served in Russia as Mission President and he and his wife were in our group so I arranged for them to meet each other.  That was a neat experience because they both served in the same areas.

I went to Park City yesterday with some condo friends and we put our blankets and chairs on the "Hill" to listen to the Utah Symphony Orchestra perform the 1812 Overture - that is a THRILLING experience and I LOVED it with the cannons going off.  There were over 5,000 people on the hill and we all eat dinner there - we ordered deli sandwiches and salads and then Margaret brought drinks.  After that we all went to Margaret's condo and spent the night.  The Senior PGA tournament was being held at the Park Meadows Golf Course which is right next to her condo and that was SO exciting - all the BIG Senior golf names were competing - Arnie Palmer, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson, etc., etc.  Palmer disqualified so he left early today and it was fun to see his "Leer Jet" make a circle above the golf course to say goodbye.  He's 72 years old and couldn't compete with the younger men.  We watched the winner of the tournament make his last plays.

Mary Ann Holman and I went to church this morning in Park City and that was SO special.  The theme of the meeting was "Temples" and the last speaker told about being reared in Southern Arkansas so after the meeting I  went up to talk to her.  She was from El Dorado so I asked her if she knew JoEllen and Earl Griffin and she just hugged me - they were her parents.  She married and moved away from there about the time we moved there so she didn't know us.  She gave a very, very good talk and she had to cut it short because the first speaker took up most of the time.  She is a widow and lives in Park City but she owns an art gallery right on State Street in Salt Lake - she gave me the name of it "Tivoli" or something like that.  It was wonderful to visit with her and we talked about Cissy and Charles and could have visited alot longer but others were waiting to talk to her.

One of my neighbors died on Friday night - Bill James.  I'm sure some of you have met him - he lived in the next condo South from Margaret and used to walk up and down the grass in back of our condos - he had recently been diagnosed with Altzheimers.  He fainted last Saturday afternoon and his wife couldn't revive him so she called 911 and we all went to see if we could help - he smiled at us and gave the "thumbs up sign" as they took him to the hospital in an ambulance.  He never did regain complete conscious-ness and died a week later.  His funeral is in the morning.  He was 81 years old.

That's all the news, I think.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU  SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
