Weekly Report August 11, 2002

Dearest Family,

This has been a fun and busy week for me - I hope you have all had a fun week too!!!  I talked to Bob and Michael when they came over and it sounds like their new boat will be a great family "toy" for all of them.  I told Bob that now he needed to get a trailer so they could all go camping - Ha!!!  I remember when we had three boats and a trailer and not much time to use them but when we did have time it was well worth it and I know Bob will find that out too.  Claire - I loved the pictures you sent on the internet of the boat and I was happy to see Michael in good shape after the picture you sent of him lying in the water like he was a goner!!!

Annie - thank you for your letter and also for forwarding Russell's letter to me.  I can understand why the Ethiopians would have problems adjusting to missionary life - Russell is surely learning alot and it isn't all about teaching the gospel.  I am thinking that it won't be long before you and Jessie will be heading for San Diego to get her settled in school.  I'm SO glad I am the age I am so I don't have to worry about school and moving, etc., etc.  I also remember the great adventures of moving to different places and making new friends and stuff - you have to be young and ambitious to be that way and Jessie will be GREAT!!!

John - thank you for getting the website up to date.  I just love looking at it and I have decided that you must have taken the picture of Preston off the website of the Davis Hospital because that's the only one I have seen of him.  I'm SO glad your work is going good and I can just imagine how overwhelming it really is - it's SO different from anything you have ever done.  I was interested in reading about all the new General Board Members for the church auxilliaries and when I saw Sister Lant's picture for the Primary I just knew she must be John Lant's Mother - she is surely a talented woman.

I haven't heard from the Roy Mellors this week but it has been fun to look at the pictures of their Utah Vacation.  I know it is hot in Little Rock but not any hotter than it is in Utah.

Mary Ann - thank you so much for helping me this week.  You are always so sweet to talk to on the phone and always assure me "that it's no problem Grandma"!!!  I had to call from Star Valley to ask her to water my flowers and also to get my mail from my mail box and when I came home she had done exactly what I had asked her to do and I appreciate it SO much.  I also awakened her this morning so I could get a recipe from her Mom's recipe drawer - I didn't know Jeannie and Rick were out of town and kept ringing their doorbell until Mary Ann came to the door.

It would have been Grandmother Forrest's 100th birthday today if she had lived SO Don, Cheryl and I honored her by putting flowers on her grave.  We had planned to go out to dinner but Cheryl wanted to go visit her sister in Brigham City and she invited us to have dinner on their back lawn and it was SO nice.  This sister had fixed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and a birthday cake for all her family because it was her husband's birthday.  There were lots of little children and it was fun - it reminded me of the many lawn parties we used to have at my folks' home in Brigham City.  It was 96 degrees but quite comfortable on the lawn.  Don is very, very feeble and has such difficulty walking and getting around and he doesn't talk very much - kinda' depressing and I admire Cheryl.

I had a WONDERFUL time in Star Valley - Margaret makes everyone feel so much at home and yet I know it is stressful for her.  Her home is just beautiful but just like any other home that size, it needs alot of maintenance and since it is vacant most of the time the things don't get done that need to be done.  We went to Alpine several times - there was a "grocery store opening" there and that was a BIG DEAL.  We also went to Jackson and after talking to Bob and Michael I learned that we were at "Teton Village" the same time they were.  Bob, Michael and Laura went backpacking and hiked 35 miles in two days so they could get home for Sarah Ferner's wedding - they had a GREAT time.  I just love that part of Wyoming and it brings back LOTS of memories of our mission in Montana.  We ate at a very exclusive restaurant and that was fun.

We had a scary experience while we were in Margaret's home one night.  I went to Brigham City last Sunday and then rode with Mary Ann & Rolly Holman to Etna.  Rolly has experienced some epileptic seizures several times during the last five years but they have been minor but on Wednesday night he had a "gran mall" (sp.?) while we were all watching a video and it just about scared all of us to death.  I have never seen anything like that - he became very rigid and difficult to hold as he shook so violently.  I looked at him and he had blood coming from his mouth from biting his tongue and I wanted to call an ambulance but his wife kept saying "he'll be okay in a little while".  Margaret called the emergency hospital in Afton and they in turn called a pharmacist who could help us.  This pharmacist said he would give Rolly two pills to last him until he could get verification from his doctor the next day.  Margaret and I drove to Thayne in the middle of the night and on the road Margaret ran over a fox - anyway - the pharmacist was waiting for us at his drug store and he was SO nice.  Rolly was asleep by the time we got back to Etna and he slept for about 12 hours.

I thought we were coming home on Thursday so I didn't get a temple substitute for Saturday morning.  I feel REALLY bad because they all wanted to stay until Saturday - I made four phone calls but couldn't get anyone to work for me so they all came home.  I have made up my mind that I will drive my own car the next time I go so I don't put anyone out.  They don't have bus service and I would have taken an airline flight from Jackson but my car was in Brigham City and it would have been too complicated.

The condo friends went to the Roger's Theatre Saturday night to see Brigadoon.  I enjoyed it SO much and am always amazed at the excellent local talent.

NEWS ALERT - I am watching television while writing my letter and they just announced that "Boyd Summerhays won the Utah Open Golf Tournament" - WAY TO GO BOYD!!!  They featured him and he looked SO good and SO confident.  I'M PROUD OF YOU BOYD.

That's all the news.  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOO
