Weekly Report April 28, 2002

Dearest Family,

We have had a VERY rainy week in Utah and everything is so pretty and green and the tulips are in full bloom.  They keep telling us the water supply is low and the rain isn't helping - that doesn't make sense to me!!!

This next week will be a bittersweet week for Jessie - her last week at Utah State University after four years.  I know she will be SO thrilled to graduate but it's kinda' sad to leave a school she has loved and now she must face the cold cruel world - Ha!!!  I hope she has been able to find a Summer job in Provo and will make plans for the future - I expect big things from her.  I was SO thrilled to have her call me yesterday and say that she and her roommate, Tracy, would come spend the night with me last night and go to church with me this morning.  I have LOTS of friends who have granddaughters come from colleges to spend the weekends with their grandparents and then attend church with them.  Jessie has spent more time with me during the last four years than any of my other grandchildren and I will miss her being quite close.  She and Tracy changed their plans and weren't able to come and I was disappointed but I also understand.  I had fixed a roast and all the trimmings for dinner today so I invited Margaret to come eat with me - she was going to a granddaughter's birthday party but she came and ate anyway and we had a good visit.  She has been in Park City this last week with some condo friends but I couldn't go because of my D.U.P. obligations.

I am watching the Senior's Golf tournament and it is fun to see Bruce Summerhays do well - he is one of four leading right now and the tournament is in Arizona and that brings back memories.  Jeannie came over one day last week and it was SO good to visit with her and see first hand how her feet are doing - she says they hurt but the doctor tells her it will just take more time.  She is SO very busy with her dietician job, her church job and keeping up with her big family..  She told me that Barji and Boyd were in Hot Springs, Arkansas a couple weeks ago (about the same time I was in Arkansas I believe) and Boyd did well in a golf tournament he played in.  I would like to hear what they think about Arkansas - the weather was certainly beautiful at that time and of course, I love it.  Hot Springs isn't nearly as nice as Little Rock though.

I have a beautiful new ceiling fan in my family room thanks to Bob.  I have carried floor fans around while I have lived here and my ceiling fan will be so much more effective and I appreciate it so very much.  Bob didn't want me to shop for a fan in a discount store so I went to an electric light place and the clerk who helped me was a very nice young man.  I told him my son was going to install it and he asked me all kinds of questions like:  will it have to be reinforced with support boards in the ceiling (and it did), has my son ever done anything like that, will he have help, etc., etc.  Anyway, I told him I didn't want to buy it until my son came to see if it would fit and he could do it so he wanted his name.  When I gave it to him, he said "Is he a doctor?"  As it turned out Bob is his doctor and he had such nice things to say about him.  Bob got it and came Friday afternoon to install it and the only problem we had was when I dropped and broke a light bulb.  I JUST LOVE IT!!!

I love to look at my Little Rock pictures and remember how beautiful Emily is and how happy and energetic Timothy and Jesse are.  I hope you are all doing good.  I believe one of the children is going to do a project on Thailand - did I dream that?  Anyway, I will go through some of my books and send something I think you will be able to use.  I think their Buddhist religion is probably the most interesting thing I learned while I was there - they are SUPER people!!!

I was SO worried when I heard on the news that there had been an explosion on Chelsea Street near Manhattan in New York.  I just about called John but I kept listening to the news and they didn't suspect any terrorism so I decided not to.  I know you're doing good because I hear from you e-mail and I appreciate it SO much!!!

I had my D.U.P. meeting on Wednesday and it was held at the home of Davis County's pie maker - Marie Lloyd.  She served delicious warm apple pie with ice cream.  The meeting was supposed to be held while I was in Little Rock but they postponed it because of rainy weather.  Most of the members are in their 70's and 80's and it doesn't take a lot to have them miss the meetings.  The D.U.P. Jubilee was yesterday morning and it was raining so I doubt many went - I had to go to the temple.

Claire sent me some pictures of Michael's apartment in Logan when he starts school at Utah State and it is in a beautiful place.  I didn't know he has a friend with whom he is serving in Italy who will be his roommate at school - that's SO neat!!!  I hope May will be Michael's most productive missionary month.  Russell - I'm sure you are busy getting situated in a new apartment and area some
where in South Africa.  I am anxious to know where you will be serving and I keep hoping you will be able to go back to see your friends in Madagascar sometime.

Mary Ann said she only reads the parts of my letters that are about her - so this is for you - GOOD LUCK WITH FINALS!!!

I think that's all the news!!!  I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
