Weekly Report March 24, 2002
Dearest Family,
A VERY welcome rainy day here in Farmington
today. I think we have had a lot of snow this Winter but they keep telling us
on the weather reports that the moisture content in Utah is way below average
and we'll be in trouble next Summer if we don't get more rain and snow.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SARAH - her drill team won the
Western Championship Competition in California last week and they competed
against 60 teams - THAT'S JUST WONDERFUL!!! ALSO CONGRATULATIONS FOR BEING
CHOSEN AS A DAVIS HIGH CHEERLEADER FOR NEXT YEAR. Sarah has been a D'Ette for
the past two years and it has taken SO much time - like being at practice
every morning by 6 a.m. besides other practices during the week and she
doesn't believe cheerleading will take that much time so she decided to try
out for cheerleading and she made it!!! Thank you for calling me Sarah.
Roy Mellors - thank you for your St. Patrick's Day
card. I am really looking forward to my visit with you in April and I
appreciate so very much John making my flight arrangements. I will be gone
from April 12th through the 17th. I remember when I was with you the last
time, Emily told me she REALLY wanted to move into your guest room and if she
has made that move I hope you will know that I am comfortable wherever you put
me - I just have to be horizontal and I can sleep anyplace.
John - thank you for all the additions to the
family website. I enjoy SO much watching it in the evenings and I'm thrilled
to be able to see the handcart video - they were all sold before I got one at
our family reunion so this is the first time I have seen it and it is just
excellent - good work Bob!!! I plan to send you some pictures tonight that
were taken during the Olympics and also at Jimmy's Boy Scout Court of Honor.
I have such peace of mind knowing our memories are being preserved for the
future and I know how much time it must take and I truly appreciate it as well
as all of us.
Bob has been over three times this week and I feel
as though I am caught up with their experiences in France and Claire has been
SO good to send me pictures which John will add to the website when he gets
time.. They had a great time and I was SO pleased that Bob would take the
time to try to find more about my brother Bob's war experiences. I can't
remember if he sent you the letter he sent to me about their trip to Normandy
and the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery there. He tried to find some information
at that cemetery and they were so good to him and I loved the story about how
they took him out in the middle of the cemetery and played "taps" in honor of
my brother Bob and then presented him with two flags - the United States and
France flags. He brought them to me and I LOVE them!!! My brother Bob was
actually killed in Australia and I wrote to my brother Don for some
information and he said he was the pilot of an 847 transport plane and the
accident was weather related and the plane crashed in the ocean. They
recovered his body and he was buried in Australia but after the war they sent
it home to be buried in the family burial place in Brigham City. I traveled
from Fort Collins by train to attend that funeral. Don said my parents didn't
talk very much about it and of course I was married and gone. I REALLY need
to go to Brigham City to see if I can find out more information before
everyone is gone who might know anything about it.
Did you know that Bob makes house calls to replace
burned out light bulbs and check on toilets that don't work properly????????
Claire has spent the last couple days with Katie in St. George for a dance
competition and I know they have had a good time. Laura has spent some time
visiting at home too and Bob sent me a picture of her with her friend boy and
he's such a nice looking young man. I LOVE hearing about all the friend boys
and friend girls of my grandchildren.
Annie - Thank you SO much for dropping by to visit
for a little while on your way home from visiting your teacher at Davis High -
I LOVE that and I know how every minute counts with you. She told me that
Steve's grandfather passed away in Destin, Florida so he and Susanna and
Steve's brother Greg left on Thursday to go for the funeral. I met him when I
went there for Susanna and Steves' wedding open house and he was such a nice
man. He had been ill for quite a long time so I'm sure they know it was a
great blessing. Steve's grandmother lives right next door to his parents and
that will be good for her now that she is alone. The Woolleys are going to
San Francisco for their Spring Break this next week - I hope you have a
FABULOUS time!!!
Russell - now that I can send your letters "pouch
mail" I feel like you might receive them!!! I can't help but wonder who has
received them - do you suppose they have just thrown my perfectly good letters
away? Ha!!! I read the restrictions on sending mail by "Pouch" and noticed
that we can't send cash - I did send you some Christmas cash and I hope some
poor Malagasy family got it. It sounds like the political strife in
Madagascar has improved - you are having some special experiences.
Michael - I can't believe how much you are looking
like your Dad in the last pictures your Mom has sent to me. It's funny, I
don't think you look one bit like PaPa but you look like Bob and he is a clone
of PaPa - that doesn't make sense does it??? You surely do look handsome and
also very happy - you have your Mother's dark complexion but your Father's
features.
I went to my D.U.P. meeting on Wednesday and that
was good. The home where it was held is right in back of the Weinert's
former home on Cherry Blossom and that really brings back LOTS of memories -
Lynn had such a good time building the flower garden in back of their home and
now it is for sale again.
They put on "Oliver" at the Roger's Memorial
Theatre on Thursday and it reminded me SO much of when we came out for Bob and
Claires' wedding and the tuxedo they had rented for John was too long and he
danced all over Aunt Marvel's home singing "Oliver, Oliver"!!! Fun
memories!!!
I plan to watch the "Oscars" tonight - I haven't
seen any of the movies but I love to watch the actors and actresses who attend
and see their gorgeous clothes - I read where one of the gowns has 5,000
diamonds on it - ridiculous!!!!
I think that's all the news. I LOVE EACH ONE OF
YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU
DO. Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
a P.S. ...
Dearest Family,
Mary Ann just came over with a delicious dinner
for me - thank you SO much!!! I keep telling Jeannie to not do that but
then I just gobble it down!!! I know it won't be high calorie so I enjoy it
more than the way I cook.
I forgot to congratulate Mary Ann on her
achievements in her marathon. I kinda' lost track of what the Weinerts were
doing and since Jeannie was gone to California much longer than I thought
she would be I didn't really get all the facts but I have them now.
There were 4,000 in the marathon in Moab and it
was 13.9 miles long - Mary Ann's number was 3,607. She placed 14th out of
50 in her division. I'M SO PROUD OF YOU MARY ANN. She told me the next one
would be twice as long and it will be held in the canyons in Ogden on May
4th - hopefully some of her family will be able to be there to cheer her on.
I'm SO glad I am much too old to run in
marathons.
ONCE AGAIN - I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY, VERY MUCH -
GRANDMA B XXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOO
