Weekly Report June 10, 2001

Dearest Family,

Last week was REALLY an exciting and busy one for my family and I kinda' felt like "Maisy" in "Horton the Elephant" as I just played and played and missed all the action.  I did try to call those of you who were involved in special things but I finally gave up and decided that telephones are practically obsolete.  I bought a phone card so I wouldn't leave Margaret a big phone bill and all my friends couldn't believe all that was going on with my family.

John - I got your cell phone message and since that is the first time I have called your cell number in New York it was quite fun to hear your recording message with your new company.  I hope you had a very happy birthday.  I appreciated your e-mail message when I got home.

Bob & Brett - I think you are just GREAT to keep all of us informed about your foreign trips and the things you are doing.  I LOVED THE PICTURE!!!  I laughed because I noticed that you two are the only ones smiling in it - I guess the others were all anticipating their surgeries - Ha!!!

Ann, Ron and Family - I REALLY felt bad when I accessed your message that you would be in Layton with Russell and Jimmy and I would miss you - I hope Jimmy's ear is better by now.  I appreciated your phone message Russell - I almost cried when I remembered that it would be two years before I see you again except if I go to the airport when you actually leave for Madagascar in two months.  I have tried to call you since I came home from Wyoming but your phone is ALWAYS busy and I can understand why!!!  All my friends in Wyoming were hoping I would be able to talk to Russell on the phone but even your answering machine didn't click on.  Annie - thank you for your message about leaving Russell at the MTC.  Did his friend, Todd Freestone, go the same day?  This is a WONDERFUL experience for your entire family and all of us.  Did you read about the "Madagascar Roaches in today's "Deseret News"?  They're VERY BIG - Ha!!!

Mary Ann - I thought about you all day on Thursday and I talked to your Mom today.  She told me that you had called them from Rome and that you were having just a marvelous time seeing all the things you had studied about in school.  Jeannie - thank you for the delicious dinner today - she brings me a dinner every Sunday even though I try to talk her out of it.  Their church is earlier than mine is so they eat right after church and then bring me a dinner and I LOVE it.  When will Barji and Boyd come home?  I need to find out if Boyd's birthday is next Sunday - you told me you weren't sure.  Is Ricky still working at Meier and Frank?  Sarah - thank you for running my errand for me - I was SO glad to reach a live voice on the phone - Ha!!!

Jesse - Thank you SO much for your letters!!!  I love to find them on my computer and you are a very good letter writer.  I am VERY, VERY proud of your straight "A's" and "S's" on your report card and I hope you get a BIG reward from your family.  I am thrilled that you will be going to the Arkansas Arts Center during the Summer - please tell me what you will do there.  I remember the very, very special art objects you, Emily and Timothy had made when I visited your home last Summer - will you be doing more art work this Summer?  I hope you and Timothy and your Dad will be doing some fishing.  I am VERY anxious to have Emily come for a visit and I keep looking in our paper for special things that will be available during the time she will be here.  Patrice - thank you for your letter too!!!

Claire - thank you for your message too.  I hope you have a GREAT time in Sun Valley - Claire and her girls were going for a few days while Bob and Brett are gone.  I know things get mighty hectic in your home with LOTS of friends coming and going but you wouldn't have it any other way.

Our "little group" left last Sunday afternoon to get to Etna, Wyoming before dark and we just barely made it.  Margaret likes to get there before it is dark so she can check things around her home in the daylight.  There were two couples who came up on Monday and all in all there were ten of us - we each had our own bedroom and private bathroom - I actually stay in her grandchildren's room where there are six bunk beds with a private bathroom.  It really is a beautiful home with everything you could possibly ask for and we always have such a wonderful time.  I NEVER watch videos when I am home so I REALLY enjoy watching them when I am there - I even watched a James Bond movie and enjoyed it.  She has a HUGE library of videos plus her big screen television and comfortable seating for all of us so it is fun.  I took the things to make Jeannie's chicken spaghetti and Annie's golden graham krispie treats and they were a hit.  We try to not spend a lot of time cooking but one couple REALLY made a gourmet dinner one night.  We went into Jackson Hole one day on our way to the Bar J Ranch Chuckwagon Dinner and Program.  We went shopping at "Coldwater Creek" - I know some of you order things from their catalog.  We picked out some things to buy and then the clerk told us they were having a big sale starting the next morning and things would be 25 to 40 percent discount.  SO - we went back to Jackson Hole the next morning and that was SO MUCH FUN and we saved so much money on all the things we bought - Ha!!!  I have been looking at a woolen jacket there every time we have been there during the past six months - first it was $238 and I said I would never spend that much money on a jacket - the next time it was $138 and I still thought that was too much - on Thursday it was marked down to $119 but when she told us it would be discounted more the next day Margaret said "we are coming back so Barbara can buy her jacket" - Ha!!!  I got it for $72.00 - good deal!

I wanted to get back on Friday so I could keep my temple assignment on Saturday morning.  Another couple who live in Brigham City work at the Ogden Temple on Saturday and they wanted to come home so there were five of us who left Friday afternoon to come home (another couple had an important meeting on Friday evening).  The others are still there and they said they may stay all Summer and I wouldn't blame them.  There is a great deal of building in Star Valley and Margaret is quite worried about the water situation - they didn't get as many shares of water as they need and with all the building going on the shares may be hard to get.  A family is building a horse stable right down the street from Margaret's home - the wife is going to teach horseback riding and they will build a stable and also a home close by the stables.  This will be GREAT for Margaret's grandchildren and it may make her feel safer when she is there.  She doesn't dare stay there alone now.

Rick, Ricky and Sarah went to our cabin in Scofield not long ago.  I can't remember if I wrote about this or not???  Anyway - Rick couldn't get the little heater on.  I need to go up there and see if I have any luck.  I know it can't be started without a match and he said he tried with the automatic lighter and it didn't work.  I guess no one is interested in buying it.  Daddy would be sad - he thought it was the PERFECT cabin - Ha!!!  There hasn't been any news about "Scofield's Fishing" in our newspapers - last Summer it was ranked as one of the best fishing spots in Utah.  I have put the price at $30,000 but I don't believe that is the problem - if anyone is interested they would make an offer.

Michael - I keep thinking I will hear about your transfer from your Mom but I haven't heard anything yet.  I am proud that you are doing such a good job that your Mission President is keeping you right where you are.  Maybe they will transfer you as a surprise birthday gift on the 30th - Ha!!!  I AM SO PROUD TO HAVE TWO GRANDSONS IN THE MISSION FIELD!!!  I read your postcard everyday and thank you SO much for sending it to me.
