Weekly Report April 16, 2001
Dearest Family,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JEANNIE TOMORROW!!! You
are getting very close to "fifty" aren't you??? I can tease
you about that because you look like you're not even "39". I
hope you have a WONDERFUL birthday!!!
I hope all of you have had as happy an Easter day
as I have had. The Weinerts and Bob Mellors were on trips and I spent
the day with the Woolleys and had a very, very special day!!! I went to
my own church meetings until after Sacrament meeting and then I left to go to
Provo - the meetings in my ward were just excellent. The choir presented
a beautiful Easter program - then we had a returned missionary from the
Jamaica, Kingston mission give his report and then the High Council
member gave a talk and it was all very good.
Annie had prepared an absolutely delicious dinner.
My mother used to say she had to cook for the "threshers" when my
brothers were about the ages of Russell and I thought about that when I saw
all the food Ann had prepared. She fixed those "twice baked"
potatoes, spiral sliced baked ham, green peas, glazed sweet potatoes, fresh
fruit salad and potato rolls with creamed honey - we all ate and ate!!!
It was SO MUCH FUN to be in their home - when they all came from church they
had an Easter egg hunt. Annie had hidden 150 plastic eggs with dollar
bills in half of them and chocolate candy in the rest. Their
whole family was there and then Lee Anna had a friend boy whose parents
were out of town so she invited him to come eat with them. They had so
much fun hunting for the eggs until they had found all of them. Jessie
and Russell had come from Utah State in Logan (and that' a LONG trip) and
Susanna and Steve from Salt Lake. The table was decorated with an 8 x 10
picture of Lee Anna and her date for their school Prom that was held last
night. Lee Anna was in the Prom Royalty and she and her dress looked
gorgeous - I kept saying I wanted to see her dress but then I left before
I went upstairs. Ron and Ann went to their Prom and took pictures and
Ron told me that Lee Anna was quite like a "mistress of ceremonies"
and introduced the students as they came in (I don't believe I got that quite
right). Annie also had many packages of their favorite sugarfree gum and
breath mints on their plates for an Easter treat. Russell is going to
miss wrestling with Jimmy while he in on his mission and if Jimmy keeps
growing Russell won't dare "attack" him - Ha!!! They have SO
much fun together.
It was fun to see the enlarged pictures of Ann
being sworn in as a new school board member. Ron said he had sent you
pictures on the internet but he didn't have my e-mail so he couldn't send them
to me. I am proud of Annie for "taking that on" - she said she
had a letter from one of her friends who is on the staff at BYU and he wrote
on it "You're a fool". Ron is once again helping me with
the Lehi property - HONESTLY - I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! The Title company
had a courier take the documents to Don's home for his signature and also
mine. Cheryl called me last night to tell me they had them but they were
leaving to go to Mesquite early this morning. Since I was going to Provo
today I told her to leave them in their mail box and I stopped to pick them
up. I wanted Ron to go over them before I signed them and when he did he
didn't think the measurements corresponded with the ones on the "Quiet
Title" like we wanted them to. He said he would call the people at
the Title Company when he gets time. I get the feeling that something is
wrong with the Title Company - I hope I'm wrong.
I was SO thrilled to have an Easter Greeting
message on my answering machine from Roy & Patrice when I came home
tonight. I have thought about them SO much because I was with them last
year and LOVED their church Easter services. I remember how they shared
fresh flowers from their yards with the other members in their church. I
miss Emily, Timothy and Jesse SO much - I hope you will come to Utah this
Summer and stay with me. I would like to come to Little Rock in the Fall
whenever it is convenient for you. I was reading about the missionary
efforts of the L.D.S. missionaries in Salt Lake and it told about them
knocking on the door of a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.
The article said the lady was very nice and invited them in to learn about the
church but told them she wasn't interested. I don't know how many
members of your church there are in Salt Lake but it seems like there is a lot
of news about them.
I have thought about the Bob Mellors and John for
the last couple days. I hope you have been able to spend some time
together. I have tried to watch the programs originating out of New York
to check on your weather and I believe it has been nice. Ann said you
could see the theatre where Lion King is being played right out the window of John's
office.
Bob came over the night before they left and I
appreciated that so very much!!! John - I drove by your home on my way
back to Farmington tonight and none of the homes have sold in your
neighborhood yet - I didn't go inside. I stopped and got a
"flyer" of the home that is for sale on the corner when you drive
into your area - I have been in that home and I don't like it. I still
think your home is the best one available and I guess you just have to have
patience - it looks SO good!!!
I have also thought about the Weinerts. I
believe they left for Sun Valley when the weather was cold and rainy and I
hope it got better. Congratulations to Sarah and her D'Ette dance team -
they came home from their competition in California with four big trophies.
Jeannie and Rick and other parents met their plane with balloons and banners
congratulating them.
They surely deserve whatever honors they won -
they spend hours practicing!!! Mary Ann had LOTS of fun last week too.
She did some modeling and got to wear clothes that cost $300-$400 per outfit.
Ricky is swamped with school work but he was going to try to go to Sun Valley
with the family.
I stopped at my mother's old home in Lehi
today to take a picture of it for my genealogy. IT IS A MESS!!! I
drove into their driveway to get out of the way of the road and three big dogs
came after me so I jumped back into my car. Then a little girl came out
and asked if she could help me and I explained to her why I was there and she
was really sweet and got her dogs under control. I took several pictures
and then her mother and sister came out. I asked her mother if I could
take a picture of the tree where Lela and I spent every day when we visited
our grandparents and she said, "Oh yes and come see where our pit bull
dug" - it's surprising it is still standing!!! She asked me the
names of my grandparents and when I said, "Rhodes" she told me that
she knew Aunt Marvel and spent a lot of time in her home. I asked her
about the railing that used to be around the home and she said she had moved
there when she was five years old and couldn't remember much about it.
She told me there were many pictures left in the home and she would send them
to me if she could find them and also the legal document when they bought the
place. She was very, very nice but obviously not very high class and
even though I wanted to go inside the house I didn't dare. SAD!!!
That's all the news. I LOVE EACH ONE OF YOU
SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU
DO. Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
