Dearest Family,

CONGRATULATIONS TO RUSSELL!!!  I'm sure you have all heard by now that he is going to Madagascar and I am SO excited for him and for all of us!!!  When he called me and told me I didn't even know where it was but it is off the coast of Africa and he will have to learn French.  I want to know more about it and will go to the library and get some books to help me.  I imagine he will be working with many black people won't he?  We are all SO lucky to be able to learn about this part of our country.  I thought it must be a very small Island since I didn't know where it was but after looking at the map it is quite large.  HOW EXCITING RUSSELL - WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!

Michael and Ricky have been SO good to help us learn about Italy and El Salvador.  I loved Ricky's letters when he was in El Salvador and now I am loving Michael's letters from Italy.  I feel like I know Enrico in Italy and I'm hoping he will be able to give up his smoking habit soon.  The picture Claire copied and sent is just fabulous - what a beautiful Italian family Michael is working with.  Enrico is a handsome young man.

Timothy and Jesse - thank you SO much for your letters!!!  I just LOVE them and have put them on your boards.  I have worried about you all day after learning about the tornadoes in Arkansas - the news says that power has been off in the South part of the State - I hope that hasn't affected you.  Did you get the trees from your backyard picked up and hauled off yet?  Nature plays dirty tricks on us at times, doesn't it?

Jeannie and Rick have been in Phoenix since Thursday - they're due back home tonight.  I have called Mary Ann and Sarah several times but I get the feeling they think I don't believe they are competent to be home alone and I know they are.  Our weather turned SO bad on Friday night and I worried about them driving to Salt Lake early Saturday morning for their violin federation -  they assured me they would take Rick's truck that has 4-wheel drive.  I went to Mary Ann's recital at the University of Utah on Monday night and she did such a good job and she was still getting ready for the judging on Saturday morning.   We went to "Teriyaki Sticks" after the recital and I had a Thai dish that was good.  Sarah came over on Wednesday night and played her violin pieces for me and I LOVED that - she does such a good job too.  She practiced and studied and then I took her to a D'Ette party and I went to our Relief Society Enrichment meeting - I listened to a talk about estate planning and I'm glad I have one.

I have communicated with John during the week and he is doing good.  He was in Tampa, Florida and Atlanta part of the week and I'm sure it was quite a change for him to go back to New York because the weather news is that they have had LOTS of snow and COLD weather.  He keeps telling me that he NEVER gets bored - that is a good sign he is happy!!!  I miss having him close but I'm glad he is doing the things he REALLY wants to do.

I know a doctor who makes house calls and I appreciate him SO much!!!  I went to the temple on Saturday morning and all the time I was there I kept thinking "I should have stayed home".  I have had a bad cough for several days but I kept thinking it would go away and it just didn't.  Bob and Claire came over on Saturday night and I was REALLY sick.  It is the same thing I have had for the last three years and the next time I get a cough I am going to bed.  Bob went to get me some anti-biotics and LOTS of food (that delicious roasted chicken, potato salad, etc.)  I couldn't eat anything until just a few minutes ago and now that I am hungry I am sure I am "on the mend".

Claire's father has made a fabulous genealogy book for each one of their children and Claire loaned me hers.  I have wanted to make a book like that for each of you but I didn't know where to start.  SO I have spent a lot of time this past week typing up Lynn's journal and trying to get started.  It will probably take me a long, long time to get it finished but at least I am started!!!

Margaret and I decided to go on a diet - she is going in for a medical checkup-her doctor put her on this diet for three days:  1/2 cup maple syrup ( it has to be the kind you get from a nutrition store) to 1/2 gallon of distilled water - and then you drink a gallon of distilled water during the day.  I had just barely started it when I came home from the temple but then I got sick so I haven't done it since.  I'm not sure I will do it - she doesn't need to lose weight but I do.

I think that's all the news.  I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY, VERY MUCH.  PLEASE BE SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU.  Grandma B XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
