Weekly Report November 12, 2000
Dearest Family,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BOB TOMORROW!!! I was going
to bring your little gift over to you today but since it hasn't stopped snowing
all day I decided to wait until tomorrow. I hope you have a WONDERFUL day
with a big birthday cake and ice cream - 46 seems SO young to me and I'm SO
proud of you!!!
The BIG news for this week is that John has resigned
from Viewpoint and has a WONDERFUL opportunity to go with a similar company that
is based in New York and he will be moving!!! I could have written about
this last week because he told us about it when we were together last Sunday
night - it didn't seem right for me to announce it. Roy called me on
Monday night and he said John had told him a little about it a few weeks ago.
Monday morning, John called and told me to go to the
store and buy a Salt Lake Tribune and turn to the business section. I
couldn't believe it - here was this huge article about the success and future
potential of Viewpoint and it kept quoting "Senior Vice President John
Mellor". John was calling me from his cell phone and he was on his
way to the Viewpoint Office to submit his resignation. Talk about
"irony". The only peace I could find was knowing that John had
written the article and was still anxious to "move on". I
worried that his office colleagues would throw him out the window or something
but he said they were all very supportive and nice. A man who has worked
there as long as John has will take his place. I am thrilled for John and
admire SO much his guts and courage!!!
He has certainly "taken the bull by the
horns" in getting his affairs in order so he can move. He will have
this next week to try to sell the things he needs to in his home so he is having
a "Virtual Garage Sale" on the web. I know he has sent the Utah
family the web site and it has been fun for me to access it - he has already
sold many things. I am going to buy his rattan set and will put it on my
deck upstairs - I have loved it since he bought it and I think it will be
perfect out there - He says it isn't weather proof but the deck is covered and
it won't actually be in the weather. I get dizzy when I think about all
the things in his home that will have to be taken care of - he said he may
decide to rent a small storage place.
I am BEGGING to take Moki - John says that Julianna can't take her and he is
worried that I want her just to help him out but that's not the truth. I
really fell in love with Sammie while I was with the Roy Mellors in Little Rock
and I know Moki is that same kind of dog. I will try to get permission
from the condo management but I don't think that will be a problem because many
of my neighbors have dogs.
ROY - Thank you SO much for calling me. I could have talked to you all
night so I guess it is a good thing I had to hang up and go to a Family Home
Evening that was planned in our neighborhood. You sound SO good and I hope
your job situation works out - WHAT A WORRY!!! TIMOTHY - Thank you
SO much for your letter. I love to receive letters from you - e-mail is
good but it doesn't take the place of a written letter that I can put on my
board and look at often. I AM SO PROUD OF EMILY, TIMOTHY AND JESSE and
their excellent report cards - I'm not one bit surprised though!!!
ANNIE - Thank you SO much for your letter too.
I have looked through a million recipes trying to find a Martha Stewart
one to bring for Thanksgiving - how about a "Taste of Home" recipe?
Annie doesn't want any help for her Thanksgiving dinner unless it can be a
VERY SPECIAL Martha Stewart gourmet one - Ha!!! I watched a demonstration
on television the other day for a Thanksgiving night dinner - turkey dressing on
the first layer, then left over turkey with chicken soup, sour cream, onions and
celery on the second layer, then mashed potatoes on the third layer and topped
with cheese.
BOB came over on Wednesday night and installed a new
"over the range" microwave for me. I felt sad that it took his
entire night - he didn't leave until almost midnight - BUT I love it!!! It
really is a nice one - much nicer than the one that was here when I moved in.
It is SO fun to watch Bob work on things like that - he could be an
electrician, a plumber, a builder, etc. etc. It's wonderful when men learn
how to "fix things" - he has saved me lots of money but I promise I
don't deliberately break things. He's not too good at setting skunk traps
though - Ha!!!
MARY ANN - I was very proud of you this morning.
One of her friends who is going on a mission asked her to play her violin
at his farewell program and she did a beautiful job. I am constantly
amazed at how calm she is in front of such a huge crowd - this young man's
Sacrament meeting was held in the Stake Center of my Stake and it is a very
large building and it was packed!!! It was fun to be with Sarah and
Jeannie for the meeting. I had a long visit with Jeannie on the phone
tonight - they are doing fine - Rick had to fly to St. George for a pacemaker
operation in the morning.
I went to a Boy Scout auction last night and it was
phenomenal. There were many, many people there and since I had never been
to anything like that I was confused but my condo friends were not one bit
confused - they all got some good buys. They sold a beautiful
grandfather's clock, two cars, a boat, a truck, a diamond ring, John Stockton's
jersey that was framed, a basketball that was signed by Karl Malone and many
other things. I enjoyed the delicious dinner - Cornish game hens stuffed
with wild rice, beautiful vegetables, rolls and individual carrot cakes with
raspberry sauce.
What do you all think about the "Election
Mess"??? When I talked to Jeannie she said she could see that some
very good things could come out of all this but I'll have to admit I can't think
of any. My friends who are in Russia wrote and asked me to tell them who
had won the election - FUNNY!!! They need a Solomon in government to
decide what to do.
We have had a lot of snow the last few days - it
hasn't stopped all day today and it is the "powder" snow that skiers
love. The ski resorts are thrilled because they have been able to open
earlier than usual. I LOVE the snow and it is nice to not have to worry
about shoveling it and my condo is SO comfortable.
I had a phone call from Cissy Beyers on Friday.
They are in Utah for a "Mill Convention" in Ogden and it was fun
to talk to her. They are very, very happy with Steve's new wife. Steve
is with the Draper Bank and they live in Salt Lake. His wife's name is
Perryanne (unusual) and she works in Social Services for the church. Steve's
daughter and her husband are both students at Utah State in Logan.
Michael - what will you do for Thanksgiving? I'm
sure Italy won't be celebrating it but I hope the missionaries will get together
for a turkey dinner and all the trimmings. I love to hear your mission
news from your Mom.
I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY, VERY MUCH. PLEASE BE
SO VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
