Weekly Report June 14, 1999
Dearest Family,
This has been a fun week for me
and I hope it has been for all of you. We are FINALLY getting some
Summer weather and I guess it won't be long before I will be complaining about
the heat!!!
Bob, Michael, Laura and Brett came
over last night just to visit and I LOVED that!!! We sat out on the deck
and my neighbor whom I never see came out so I introduced her to my family -
it was quite funny because she asked me where they lived and I told her that
Bob practiced medicine in Layton. As it turned out he had treated her
for some kind of sinus problems a few years ago -- small world!!! The
condo pool is now open so I hope they will come over often to take a swim.
I haven't been in it yet but it looks so pretty with the lawn chairs and
tables out around it - I have a perfect view of it from my den window.
Michael helped me with some computer questions - he is a WHIZ!!!
Bob is "knee deep" in the reunion plans - he always does things so
efficiently and without a lot of fanfare and everyone will LOVE it. It is
going to be Sept. 4th from 3 - 9 at the Mellor Banquet Hall in Lehi with a
catered dinner by Carl Mellor and it will be free so there will be many people
there. I am excited already - he is going to send the invitations to me
and I will send them to you soon. The big thing is going to be to get
the genealogy that has been done checked so the inaccurate information can be
corrected for our records. It has been very disappointing to go to the
genealogy library and find SO MUCH inaccurate information. I believe I
told you that they have my brother Don, dead, and my brother Bob still alive.
They can't give out information about people who are still living so that
presents a problem but at least we can have our own personal family genealogy
correct. John and Bob are going to do the T-shirt thing again and we
will have the out grown clothing "give away" too. I WISH THE
ROY MELLOR FAMILY COULD COME FOR IT!!!
EMILY - IT WON'T BE LONG UNTIL YOU WILL BE COMING
AND WE ARE VERY EXCITED!!! I will be at the airport at 5 p.m. on
Saturday the 26th. I would like for both you and Katie to stay with me
that night - if that's okay!!! I know your Mom will have important
information for you like my telephone number and also other Utah family member
phone numbers. I can hardly wait!!!
Rick took Sarah and one of her friends and me to
the cabin on Friday afternoon and we had such a good time. Sarah is
keeping up her reputation and she and Amy caught 6 fish off the dock within
thirty minutes after we got there. Byrd took them out on his boat the
next day and they caught 10 more - they were beautiful fish!!! Saturday
was the first official work day of the season for Scofield West and there were
many people involved. We were all to meet at the bowery by 8 a.m. so
Rick and I went over there - they had all kinds of donuts and pastries, juice
and coffee and they had a good time visiting together. They said I could
quilt but I declined and told Rick to come get me if he felt I could do
something to help because I REALLY wanted to "attack" the skunk
room. Rick used the weed eater and helped around the bowery and the
cabin. I know that place is mostly for OLD people but I have to hand it
to them for what they have accomplished. When Daddy first bought it
there was no electricity, no water or plumbing, and just a little shack they
called the bowery. Now the bowery is very nice and even though it is
very different from what we would like it serves their purpose and it is
available to us whenever we want to reserve it. Most of the people there
bring their grandchildren so there are children occasionally.
I must tell you about the curtains I made for the
skunk room. I made every mistake I could possibly make. First of
all I like to cover the window in there with plastic to keep those pesty
little "midgies" away. WELL - I got heavier plastic but it was
too narrow to completely cover the window so I had to "piece" it
down the center with duck tape and it looks SO funny. THEN - when I went
to get the material I just wanted something pretty to kinda' dress up the
skunk room and I wanted a color to match those heavy curtains in there that
separate the tub from the rest of the room. After I hung them I thought
"why didn't I choose a yellow color to match the walls with a little pink
to match the other curtains". Please don't laugh if you ever get up
there to see them!!!
We called John and Ann from the
freeway with Rick's cell phone and left messages. When we were just a
little past Springville, John called us back and said he would be home if we
could drop by to see them. SO, Rick turned around and we went back to
Orem. I JUST LOVE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO THEIR HOME AND IT IS JUST ABOUT
FINISHED!!! They have all the tile put down upstairs and also new carpet
in their living (family) room and it is simply beautiful. The man was
just finishing with the tile downstairs and he has done a clever thing in the
middle of the large room down there - he has made a design kinda' separating
the room into two rooms. The puppies have grown SO much since I last saw
them and we had a hard time getting Sarah and Amy away from them. Moki
is looking much better - she has weaned them and she's gaining some of her
weight back - Tar is so cute to just stay in the background. The puppies
are BEAUTIFUL!!! John had a good time in Europe and New York but he's
glad to be home - Julianna has been "holding the fort down" with all
the remodeling and caring for the puppies. I don't know how they will
manage when they get things more settled - they have been in a "BIG
MESS" for a long time!!!
I hope the Woolleys and the Roy Mellors are doing
good and I know you are. I also hope you are having LOTS of fun with
your children during their Summer vacations from school. I had a letter
from Dorothy Woods and she REALLY likes her computer lessons from your Mom,
Patrice. Please give Suzie my love.
Cissy and Charles Beyers came for
lunch on Wednesday and I LOVED hearing about Arkansas friends. They look
SO good - they don't age one day from year to year and I would love their
secret. Charles is so full of life - he reminds me very much of Mel
Manning - he has more funny stories to tell and is such good company.
Cissy is quite sad about some family problems. Their son Steve is
happily married now but his former wife has turned their children away from
him and their daughter who is getting married soon doesn't want Cissy
and Charles to come for her wedding. Cissy could hardly talk about it.
They also told me about Jim and Marlena Griffin's daughter Jeannie who was on
a mission in Ohio. She fell in love with one of her investigators so
they brought her home and he followed her so they married. She is
raising a little Mexican baby by herself now. NOW AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU
READ MY LETTER TO THE VERY END - HA!!!
If I understand my computer right
I only have room to say I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH - Grandma B
