Weekly Report May 31, 1999
Dearest Family,
I am writing this while my
permanent processes and I can't wear my glasses so expect a lot of mistakes.
Jeannie rolled up my hair and I put the solution on and will leave it on for
about an hour - I can't get the beauticians to leave it on that long. I
feel like if I can alternate between Annie and Jeannie to roll it up for me
then it won't be such a burden. It used to be that permanents lasted 6
months and now I am lucky if they last 2 months - other people say the same
thing so it must be that the solution is different.
Today is Memorial Day and the
people in Utah REALLY remember their loved ones who have died - the cemeteries
are so pretty. I REALLY appreciate the way the family burial plots
looked in Lehi as we stopped last night on our way home from Scofield. I
had fixed a "pot" of red peonies for Daddy's grave and we planned to
take them to the cemetery on our way on Saturday but just as we were passing
through there they had a huge cloudburst with high winds and we knew the
flowers would be ruined so we took them to John and Juliannas' home.
They put them on Daddy's grave and also some on Aunt Marvels and Grandma &
Grandpa Rhodes graves. - they had arranged them so they were kinda' out of the
wind and there were many flowers from the Woolleys, John and Julianna and
others and it was just beautiful. David had put the missionary flag up
again and that always makes me SO happy. I asked my friend, Margaret, to
take flowers to Brigham City for my folks' graves - she goes up there for her
husband's grave.
Patrice - thank you for your
message. I am always SO happy when I know what everyone is doing and
sometime I have to guess what the Roy Mellor family is doing - Ha!!! I
have thought about Roy and Emily at Space Camp and I hope they will tell me
all about it when they are here. Your trip camping by the Buffalo River
makes me homesick for Arkansas. I LOVED all our Arkansas camping
trips - such beautiful scenery. I'm proud of Patrice for being able to
get things together without Roy there (he and Emily were going to meet them as
they are camping, I believe). The big problem with camping is all the
things you have to take. Did you stay in tents? I hope Timothy and
Jesse caught some fish!!! I'm SO anxious for your visit with me.
Bob took me to Scofield on
Saturday afternoon - he brought Katie and her friend, Abby, and also Sarah.
We didn't get to Scofield until it was almost dark but Bob was able to get the
water turned on without any problems. I am going to have to learn how to
do that so he and John won't have to go up there to do it for me. I
always worry that there will be a pipe that is broken and I won't know what to
do. I was surprised at how good the cabin looked after being gone for
two years. I believe the only ones who have used it have been Chris and
Wayne. I believe I will name it the Grandma B, Sarah, Brett and Katie
cabin because we are the only ones who like it. I LOVE it after I get it
all cleaned and have it so it is comfortable It was dirty but the young
women were all good sports and we had a good time. They roasted
marshmallows until almost midnight on Saturday night. We all went to
church on Sunday morning and I have NEVER seen so many people in the church
building there - Sarah, Katie and Abby had to sit on Bob and my laps and there
were people in all the back rooms and out in front. I thought it was
WONDERFUL except that I thought I had left a dress up there and I hadn't so I
had to wear pants and I was the only woman there in pants - EMBARRASSING!!!
The girls all fished and Sarah caught two. We came back last night - IT
WAS SO FUN!!!
I went to Wyoming with my
neighbor, Margaret, last week. We left on Tuesday and came home on
Friday night. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORE BEAUTIFUL HOME THAN SHE HAS.
She calls it a cabin but it is far from a cabin. She has seven bedrooms,
about four family rooms, a huge living and dining room combined and a table
that will seat 24. I love her big kitchen and it opens out onto a porch
that is gorgeous - we ate our dinners out there every night and visited until
about 10 p.m. Her home is right up against a pine mountain and she owns
most of the property around it plus 200 acres just down a little ways that she
leases out. They also have a bunk house that is nicer than most homes
and a big garage type building for all their equipment; tractors, trucks, etc.
Margaret has taken her condo neighbors there for many years and they float the
snake river in the Summer and go snow mobiling in the Winter. I had
heard them say how nice it was but I couldn't believe it was as nice as it is.
We had so much fun talking about our Brigham City friends and our high school
days - it was the first time I have been North of Brigham City for many years.
We had dinner at the Idle Isle cafe in Brigham City on the way home.
Margaret is a very lovely woman. She had to come home because she is
helping take care of her grandchildren while their parents go to Korea to get
their missionary son.
It was fun to be at the Weinert's home this
afternoon. Barji was on a date, Sarah was taking a nap because she
didn't get any . sleep this weekend and while I was there Mary Ann
and her friend, Matt, came home from Brigham City where they had gone to put
some flowers on Christopher's grave. Rick had to work today but he came
home while I was there - they are making plans for their sprinkling system.
We talked about Ricky and how well he is doing and also Barji's friend, Boyd
and how well he is doing in Brazil. They are starting their second year
so their missions are almost half over. That's quite a milestone.
We stopped to see the puppies at John and
Juliannas' home on Saturday - THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL - so healthy
looking but I feel so bad for Moki - we told John we thought she looked too
thin and he said, "How would you feel if you were feeding 11
puppies"? I REALLY, REALLY love their kitchen and den - I
can't believe how much larger it is than when I lived there. They are
still in a big mess and I feel sorry for them. The man was there laying
the tile in their dining room and it s so NICE. They have turned their
downstairs over to the puppies and Tar and Moki - they have a plastic
swimming pool where the puppies stay and they can't climb out unless they
figure out how to climb on top of each other. They are going to have a
hard time when the puppies are sold - they said they wanted to have them leave
before they become too attached. I think they already are. John
left on Sunday morning to go to Europe for ten days - he wasn't too excited,
I talked to Annie for a little while and they are
doing fine. Jimmy graduated from 6th grade last week and Lee Anna had
her wisdom teeth pulled out. I would have liked to go to Jimmy's
graduation - he received many honors and he is the last Woolley student
at the school after many years. Their "project" is just about
finished - I believe they have to paint the outside yet. LeeAnna, I
hope you are feeling better by now.
Bob and Michael brought over a refrigerator and
microwave for the cabin. I believe Michael will take it up this next
weekend. It is a larger refrigerator than the one that is there and it
will be NICE!!!
I must close - my hair is "cooked" and I
am going to go to Scofield this evening. I want to do some more cleaning
before Chris and Wayne get here. I am gong to put out tons of
"de-con" - Ha!!!
I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY, VERY MUCH - PLEASE BE SO
VERY, VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. Grandma B
P.S. I forgot to tell you that I locked my
keys in my car when I was at WalMart last Saturday. I was THRILLED to
be able to call Jeannie and have her go to my condo to get the extra key and
bring it to me (actually Barji brought it). THANKS SO MUCH.
