Thailand Letter

Dearest Family,
We just came home from our little market and I was SO thrilled to find Bob's pictures of Las Vegas on the computer. When I read your letter yesterday Bob I thought you had sent them with that letter and something was wrong and I couldn't access them. I didn't want to say anything because you said you were using a different system so I just waited. I don't know what system you are using but the pictures are absolutely perfect - they are SO clear and good!!!
Virginia and I feel as though we have been on a trip to Las Vegas. The one of you and Michael and Brett on the "Screamer" sent chills through me - Claire, did you take that good picture? Bob - you are just like your Dad in every way except that one - I KNOW he would never have gone on that ride!!! The ones of you and Katie on the water ride and the one of Brett, Katie, Michael and Laura on the water ride are spectacular - I could almost feel the water - everything was so perfectly clear. I want to know what Brett is holding as they are watching the Magic Tricks - it looked like the other children were "keeping their distance" - Ha!!! The ones of Katie and Brett "Pigging Out" made us hungry - I said to Virginia "That looks like Bar-b-cue ribs" and she said, "What ever it is it has a lot of catsup on it". Bob - you look so happy and contented as you are standing with Michael, Katie and Brett by the water ride - I believe you enjoyed it more that you will admit - Ha!!! Who took the family picture of all of you with "Kermit the Frog"? It is an excellent picture. THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR VACATION WITH US!!! WE LOVED IT!!! Don't be too hard on yourself Bob for taking your family to such a materialistic place - it is far better for them to see it with you and Claire than to discover it on their own. They have their feet on the ground and will put it in its proper place.
Bob - thank you for winterizing the cabin. I have worried about it but I felt sure you or John would take care of it. I am SO glad you don't like to hunt. Daddy grew up with hunting as being a great source of food and it was a way of life but in his later years he didn't enjoy killing the animals. I believe he always felt bad about killing so many deer while we were in Montana - we used every bit of it for food for the missionaries but some of those hunts still give me nightmares and I'll bet they do John too. Scofield is a great place for hunters and most of the men at Scofield West go deer and elk hunting.
I sent Byrd one of my "Family & Friend" letters and he sent me the most beautiful "spiritual" card - he is not a spiritual person but he thinks it is great that I am doing what I am doing. He also wrote a little letter and said he had sold his trailer park in Price and he was "homeless". I imagine he will spend most of his time in Scofield except during the really harsh Winter months. We are fortunate to have him there to look after the cabin.
I feel bad if you had to go to Scofield by yourself - it is such a long way from Layton. I find myself looking forward to spending time there after my mission - it is a lonely place but maybe by then some of my grandchildren will go with me.
We cleaned our apartment this morning and did some laundry and then about noon we went to Carrefour - it's one of the new shopping places we found last weekend. We are always SO anxious to find a KFC - we really wanted a MacDonald's but we couldn't find one. We had a fish sandwich, French fries and a 7-up and it tasted SO GOOD!!!
I keep accessing the conference talks and I just LOVE them. I am wondering how Carol Ann feels about her friend, Margaret Nadauld, being called as the new Young Women's President. Margaret's mother, Helen Dyreng, was Daddy's girl friend all through High School - she is still a beautiful woman and was Mrs. Utah several years ago. Helen and Aunt Carol are good friends but there has always been a lot of competition between Helen's two daughters and Carol Ann. Helen's husband spoke at Uncle Elly's funeral. I personally thought Janet Lee might be called to that position.
THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR WONDERFUL SUPPORT. love you, Grandma B
