Dearest Family,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MARY ANN!!! I feel bad that I am not sending birthday gifts but I hope I will remember to wish each one of you a Happy Day when it is your birthday. I know the Weinerts are in New York so Mary Ann is having a very special birthday. We have discussed this problem with the other teachers and no one is sending gifts - the mail is too unreliable and it's too difficult to get to the post office. I'll make it up to you all some way.
John - thank you SO much for your letter and advice about my finances. I have two $500 checks written out and I believe they have been cashed but I don't have any money from them. I will be much more sympathetic when I hear about people having problems getting their money out of foreign countries from now on. I surely do appreciate all you're doing to help me John. I can get money from the ATM machines so I am fine but it is frustrating.
I wrote in my last message that I was going to the beauty shop on Sai Mai to have my hair cut. Well - when I got there I looked in her cabinet and saw a permanent!!! I talked her into giving me a permanent and it was an experience I won't soon forget. The solution stayed on for 1 and 1/2 hours and still didn't curl and when she put the neutralizer on she didn't even rinse the waving lotion off first. She cut it after she had given the permanent so I have VERY LITTLE curl - I can't win - too much frizz or straight!!!
We have been teaching teachers this week in another district - we were supposed to have this week to prepare. They have sent a professional chauffeur (sp?) for us and then they took us to the market today after school. I tried to "mime" that we would like to buy some soup and the assistant director of the school took me to the toothbrushes - Ha!!!
I love each one of you so very, very much. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! Grandma B
