Thailand Letter

October 8, 1997

Bangkok, Thailand

Dearest Family,

I was SO thrilled to find Patrice's letter on the computer a few minutes ago that I decided to answer right now!!!

I am SO proud of all you are doing in your church. I can't think of a better way to serve than to work with the teenagers - they desperately need good models and good leadership all over the world. We didn't do much work for the homeless while we lived in Little Rock - we do A LOT of it in Utah!!! Chicken spaghetti sounds SO good to me!!! Roy would be good at "seeing that all the bills are paid in your church" he was ALWAYS so responsible when it came to handling money - he got that from his Dad!!!

Painting all your windows and repairing your flagstone patio!!! That sounds like a lot of work to me. It's wonderful that you are able to do a lot of the maintenance repairs around your home. I am HOMESICK for Arkansas and your beautiful Fall leaves. I remember that one tree by your other home that Chris Jordin talked about all the time - I guess it was visited by most L. R. people at this time of year. I also miss the squirrels - we have geckos (?) all over and a lot of dogs and a few birds but that's all.

Emily - I hope you will be able to do all the homework you are assigned. What is your favorite subject? Are you still involved with your scouting - that is VERY BIG in Bangkok. Timothy - keep up the good work with the Red Devils - I know you are a good and FAST soccer player. Jesse - how is pre-school.

I am going to walk to our little Sai Mai road and get my hair cut - I need a permanent but she doesn't know how to give them and after my last experience with a tight permanent I am going to be very careful. This is our last week of preparation but we haven't had much free time. Yesterday they asked us to help teach in another district and we have to go again today and tomorrow - just from 2 to 4 but we have to leave at noon and don't get home until five. We go by two buses and they are SO slow.

We taught 6 neighbors last night. The two young women I am working with brought me two "hideous" figures that are glittering and very colorful. I believe they symbolize "guarding" at the palace or something. They also brought us food and it is very interesting "stuff" - Virginia won't eat it - Ha!!!

Claire - thank you for your letter telling about going to Las Vegas this weekend. It will be so much fun to stay in the MGM Hotel - Mel and Ellen Mae took me there on our way to Palm Springs and I just couldn't believe it. I hope you will tell me all about it. HAVE LOTS OF FUN.

The Weinerts are in New York and the Woolleys are in Wyoming - for UEA.
