Thailand Letter

Bangkok, Thailand

Dearest Family,

I just finished copying the conference talks that Bob has sent. I will now share them with the rest of the group that want them and they all will. It is SO funny but when I was in Utah and listened to conference I enjoyed the talks but when I read them here in Thailand I REALLY LOVE them!!! Thank you SO very much Bob!!! Virginia and I sat by the computer yesterday morning and again this morning and just devoured them!!! President Hinckley is so "down to earth" and puts the "frosting on the cake" in all the conferences, doesn't he? Thank you too Bob for sending the Relief Society Conference talks - they will help us in everything we do. I admire Sister Dew's candidness - I can surely relate to the things she mentioned about being single in our church but it is entirely different for me at 70 plus having had a wonderful husband and now a wonderful family than it is for her at 43 never having married. She will be a great asset to the church in her calling as she represents so many women who are in her same situation - I live with one of them!!!

I LOVED THE PICTURES!!! I feel as though I was right there with you during your conference get together. Susanna, Jessie, Ron, Lee Anna, Mary Ann, Michael, Ricky, Russell, and Ann, Jean & Claire in the kitchen is BEAUTIFUL - I loved Ann's little wave!!! Julianna - Ann said you had a new "hair do" that she really liked and I agree - the one of you and John is wonderful. Bob and Claire on the sofa - you look SO relaxed - I hope you are with all you are doing!!! Ann & Ron watching television - I can see how seriously you are watching!!! I counted the ones in the group picture and I know that Susanna, Jessie and Lee Anna had already gone home - it was a GREAT picture though. THANKS A MILLION!!!

Ann - thank you for your letter today. You told about the delicious food at Jeannies and my mouth just watered - this is a perfect time of year for John & Julianna's corn guacamole or is the fresh corn all gone? I can't imagine going clear to Delta for a football game but I know Russell appreciated it. Susanna is so fortunate to be able to bring friends home and I know she knows that - I'm glad you like her Family Home Evening friends. Please take care of yourself and don't get SO busy with working 20 hours a week - how do you do it???

Jessie - I JUST LOVED your letter. I am SO happy that you remember the fun we had in my backyard with tea parties, etc. I will always remember when we first moved there and how you used to dance and sing as you came down the winding steps on the lawn and entertained us when we got together. You pretended you were on a stage and we all LOVED it. I could never understand Chemistry and especially not advanced placement!!! Don't worry about it!!! Just do the best you can. What did people wear in the 70's - I can't even remember??? Did you like Dave? Jeannie said Ricky liked his date more than Barji did hers - Ha!!!

I had an e-mail letter from Terry Woods. She is in the "dog training" business in a big way. She takes her Eskimo dogs to nursing homes - she says they have "titles" in agility and obedience. She has trained them to help with "Behavior Disorder Kids" - I believe that is her profession. I am happy that she has found happiness - she seems very contented with her life.

PraPa, our supervisor, came over this morning and took us to the store to buy a new bed - I told you that we had to have two beds - church rules!!! It is a 36 inch bed and will fit in our bedroom along with the king size bed - I'm sure I will sleep on that one but that's okay. All I have to do is get horizontal and I'm asleep. I also bought a clothing rack - I have been hanging my clothes over the door so this is WONDERFUL!!! After her "officers" put up our bed and the rack we fixed them tuna fish sandwiches - they NEVER eat sandwiches in Thailand but they did here - Ha!!! Then Virginia and I went to town again and found the ink cartridge for our computer printer - she refused to go alone!!! We found a "Pizza Hut" and had pizza and it tasted SO good - I even had a diet coke!!!

I feel out of touch with the Roy Mellors but that's okay!!! I know you are SO busy with all the children's activities. I won't go into how I used to put the wrong year dates on the letters I sent to my folks when I was in your same situation so I DO UNDERSTAND!!!

About my condo!!! I am THRILLED that John and Julianna want to buy my home - they will love it and they will LOVE the neighborhood and the ward and the ward and the neighborhood will love them!!! I have known for some time that I would have to get out of that big house and big yard even though I LOVE it. You have completely ignored my suggestion that I build a home on my property in Lehi - Ha and Why!!! My requirements for a condo are: enough room to have Roy & Patrices' family come stay with me, a bedroom on the main level, a kitchen and family room combination, very little yard and in a condo complex with other widows. I would also like it to be within walking distance of a grocery store and the church - like my property in Lehi!!!

I love you all so very, very much and I worry about you. Beverly & Doug Jenkins are here in the teaching group and they used to live in Ann's ward before she moved. Their son was in a terrible automobile accident on Saturday night. He has been in intensive care with leg injuries but he is out now and will be okay. I just hope you will be CAREFUL in everything you do. Grandma B
