Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, Lee Anna & Jimmy:
We are having a rainy day and I hope to spend the day at the computer. I got up fairly early this morning to prepare some soup for a sick lady and I just delivered that - while I was fixing it a neighbor lady came to visit and I told her I had to hurry because this lady was waiting for the soup. This neighbor could stay for hours!!! Ann gave me this idea for soup - it is a mix and it is SO easy I wish I had known about it before. The brand name is "Bear Creek Country Kitchens" and it is sold in the Smith stores but it is made in Heber City. There are a lot of different kinds but the only one I have tried is the creamy potato soup - it doesn't have any fat in it and I love it. I made some lemon bars for the Woolleys last night but they couldn't come so I have taken them around the neighborhood too. It is SO funny - when I don't have one good thing to eat some of my family will drop in but when I have more than I can eat
no one comes. I tried a new recipe for "Cracker Jack Popcorn" yesterday so I could take some to a lady I visit teach - it wasn't very good because I baked it at too high of a temperature but there is a lot of that left too!!!
Bob - I hope you are home safe and sound and I'm sure you are. Bob went to Mexico on his regular "Mercy Mission" last Thursday and he was due home last night. Our weather was so overcast and I worry anyway when he goes - I talked to Don about 9:30 and when I told him Bob was flying home in our bad weather he said, "Oh, I hope he doesn't crash". That wasn't the response I was hoping for - usually people will say "Oh, he will be just fine". I am SO proud of Bob and the other doctors who go on these missions - they do SO much good!!!
John and Julianna came over on Friday night for a little while and they are doing fine. I have started tutoring in the second grade and Julianna gave me some ideas on how to help the slow readers. I have only worked with one little boy and he is SO cute and eager to learn - I'm sure he will catch up soon. When I taught in Little Rock I worked with mostly undisciplined teenagers so this will be easy. Julianna must have quite a library of books for the children in her classes - she has bought them because of the limited budget in her school.
SARAH IS GOING TO BE IN THE NUTCRACKER THIS WEEKEND!!! I am SO anxious to attend on Friday night and see her perform. Jeannie is going to Florida with Bob to attend an allergy conference and they will leave on Thursday (I think) so she won't be able to go see the Nutcracker this year. She will see the final dress rehearsal and that will be like seeing the performance and she has seen them for the last five or six years. I hope they will be able to learn something about the kind of allergies that my friend, Dianne Power has. She is allergic to the environment and I don't think she is getting any better.
Mary Ann broke her thumb playing volleyball last week. Every family has one accident prone child and Mary Ann is that child in the Weinert family. I forgot to ask Jeannie which hand it is. I hope it isn't the hand she writes with because that would be quite a handicap. I hope you are doing okay by now Mary Ann.
Timpview High School won their game on Saturday and I am SO thrilled. The WHOLE Woolley family went and yesterday on the front page of the paper there was a picture of the people in the stands huddled under blankets and umbrellas while the snow was coming down. I talked to Ann last night and she said it was bitter cold but they stayed to the very end even though Timpview won by four touchdowns. I always read the write ups in the paper because I have been to some of their games and have met some of the players' parents - Susanna's friend, Ryan Mahoney, played a good game!!! Russell has played football this year and they got home in time to attend the end of the year banquet for his team.
I miss Emily, Timothy and Jesse!!! I hope you didn't catch my cold. There is a lot of that going around in my ward so I probably took the bug to Little Rock - just about every family is affected by it. Many of the people here have nausea and dizziness and I didn't have that. The pictures I took of all of you and your home and yard turned out SO good - I wish I had taken more. I was kinda' discouraged after seeing the ones I had taken of President Clinton that didn't turn out. I have had so much fun telling my friends here about my trip - IT WAS WONDERFUL and I appreciate all you did for me so very much.
Roy - the picture you took of me with Barbara Sondrup and her daughter Angie and Chris Jordin turned out SO good except that I look like a "Two Ton Tony". I had such a fun time with them on Friday night. It was Barbara's 50th birthday and her daughter who lives here in Orem, Nicole Price, had a surprise birthday party for her at the Country Club and they invited me. IT WAS A VERY ELABORATE PARTY. There were about 40 people there and it was for dinner. The neatest thing about the party was that Barbara's husband, Kevin, flew in from Atlanta and surprised her. He came in about an hour after the party started and had a bouquet of red roses for her and I wish I had had my camera to catch the expression on Barbara's face - she was SO thrilled!!! Their trip from Atlanta to Utah with a U-Haul truck pulling a car was successful - they didn't get here until Tuesday so they didn't hurry - Barbara said they stopped at craft shows all along the way. That is a darling family. Kevin is a Vice-President with UPS and is thinking of taking retirement soon and going with a University that has offered him a position - he is 50 also. They lived in Connecticut at the time you and Patrice were married and came to your wedding - do you remember?
Kevin is originally from Ephraim and his four brothers and one sister were at the party and he said some of them lived in Manti. SO I went to their table and asked the one brother if he lived in Manti and he said, "No, I live in Layton". SO, I said "I have a son who practices medicine in Layton" and when he found out my name he almost shouted "You don't mean Dr. Robert Mellor". He said you had done surgery on his nose and he said "He is a WONDERFUL doctor". Needless to say, that made my night. The sister lives in Manti and she is a good friend of Carol Braithwaite and also Kaylene and Jim. I left the party early because it was getting late and after I got home I wished I hadn't.
David Taylor came by to visit with me one day last week and we had such a good visit. He works for CBS in Salt Lake now and is very happy with his job. He and his wife Polly are going to meet me at the temple next Saturday and we will go through a session together.
The temple was very, very busy when I got there about 1 o'clock on Saturday. I had to wait in the chapel for almost an hour. My shift is later (about 4 o'clock) and it wasn't very busy at that time. I am enjoying it and each time I have gone I have seen friends from Lehi that I haven't seen for a long time - I saw Elaine Schow on Saturday and I haven't seen her for about 10 years. Her husband, Alvin, was executor of Aunt Marvel's estate and a good friend - I usually see him at the cemetery on Memorial Day. THAT'S ALL THE NEWS!
