Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
I am writing my letter on Sunday night this week. Ann has to go to Bountiful in the morning for her teaching job and she has asked me to go with her. While she is doing her job I will probably drive into Farmington to visit with Jean. THEN, later, Jean and I will drive to Bountiful and pick up Ann and we will have lunch together at the "Rock Loft" in Kaysville. It is a fun place to shop and it will be fun to be together. I have cancelled my Presidency's meeting - we didn't have much to do.
They have the parts to fix my car so I will take my car to the garage in the morning and Ann will pick me up there. SO, I won't have time to write my letter in the morning.
The Woolleys just left and it is always fun to have them come. They have the most interesting Family Home Evening Lessons and it thrills me to see how well the children know all the answers. Ron fixed my front door so I don't have to lock it every time someone comes - it has always come open unless I lock it. I have ordered an "Appliance Garage" for my kitchen - I measured it the best I could but it was reassuring to have Ron remeasure it to see if it will fit. I have wanted one for a long time to try to keep my kitchen looking neater - it is supposed to hide the mixer, the Cuisinart, etc. It is almost dangerous for me to live so close to the Eagle store here - I love to go in and browse and always end up buying something. I have wanted to clean my kitchen cabinets because they have had "bubbles" on them so I went to Eagle to see how I could do it. They sold me some sand paper and some type of varnish to refinish them. I got already to start it on Saturday and then I decided that was too big a project and I would just get in a great big mess. SO I went to another store and took one of the doors in to show them - they sold me some lemon oil and told me how to do it. I worked one entire day and they look so much better and I am SO glad I didn't try to sand them all down.
John came over this morning before church. He is doing good but my goodness he is busy traveling. He is going to New York, Chicago and Pittsburgh this week and last week he was in California all week. Julianna is REALLY busy working on her thesis. John gave me some advice about my income tax - I should probably have him do it for me. I worry that down the road a ways my tax might become complicated and I am comfortable with the accountant I have because he has done it for us for a long time.
Bob - thank you for looking into the Green Belt thing. I still don't understand it and I don't like to talk to anyone about it because I can tell they know I don't understand it. It was fun to talk to you and hear all the fun in the background - I can't believe Katie can go skiing with friends. I hope the children will always enjoy the Winter sports.
Jeannie - how did your decorating go? It will be fun to hear about it tomorrow when we get together for lunch.
Roy & Patrice - I haven't heard from you for a long time. I hope things are going well with your remodeling. l MISS YOU!!! It was about this time last year that I went to visit you. I hope I'm not making a mistake by not planning to come until Fall this year. I want to do what is best for you.
I guess the big news for this letter is that Micron has put their Lehi plant in mothballs. It has REALLY been a shock to Lehi and to all of Utah County. They have the shell of a one hundred million dollar plant all built but they have decided to not complete the inside of it for another three to five years. I guess the computer chips that Micron makes are over supplied and the price has gone way down. I am really glad but I will be very disappointed if they decide to pull out for good. They keep saying they are committed to finish it and will keep their promise to have their plant up and running but with big business anything can happen. I have worried so much that the taxes on my property over there would skyrocket. They were pushing me to have the gas line put in and then the sewer and then annexation into the city limits. This delay will give us time to analyze the situation and be better prepared to deal with it when and if it comes to that.
Utah is growing almost too fast. Bob was telling me about how much Davis County has grown in the last year or so. The area I live in is constantly struggling with traffic problems because of the growth of UVSC. I am going to a meeting tomorrow night to hear more detailed plans about what they want to do with the street right behind my house. The plans are to make it a three lane road - now it is just two. Many people think it should be a five lane road with bus turnouts, etc. I hope if they do that they will make the widening on the South side of the road and not come in too deep towards my house. The President's house will keep them from coming in towards my house I hope!!!
It's kinda' fun to be in the middle of all this growth. I love to sit at my kitchen window and watch the students as they try to get to school - a constant string of cars each morning.
Carol Braithwaite called me one day last week and said, "We are going on a trip and we want you to go with us. Go to Jorgensens in the Mall and pay your $100 deposit". Carol, Shirley, Elaine and Carol Ann and I plan to go to Branson, Missouri, June 17-22. They will be fun to go with. Elaine is hoping to be fully recovered by then - in fact, the new doctor is fixing her ankle better along with her leg. Ramona isn't going - she is in a lot of pain with her back and legs.
