SEPTEMBER 25, 1995 OREM, UTAH
Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
Beautiful Fall Weather - I LOVE IT!!! One of the things I have always appreciated about Utah is the seasons - we have had a very mild Summer and now I'm looking forward to Winter. In my early morning meeting yesterday the Priesthood was planning the "Snow shoveling schedule" for the people over 60 - I told them how much I appreciated that. I don't envy Denver though - they had snow a little bit too early last week.
I hope you're all doing good. Ann and the children came over for Family Home Evening last night and it was good to visit with them - it has been a long time since I have seen all of you. Sunday evening are hard for them and couple weeks. Ron was busy with his church financial calling so he couldn't come.
I was very happy to hear about the homecoming dance at Timpview. Susanna had been invited to go to it with a young man who is Susanna had been invited to go to it with a young man who is handicapped mentally - he is mainstreamed in their school classes so his handicap is probably mild. Susanna wanted to do the right thing so after talking it over with her family she decided to go with him. she said she went with him and some of her friends and their dates and she said they had a good time and she was glad she had done it. I THINK THAT'S GREAT.
Ann and I talked about what to do for conference weekend coming up. I wanted you all to come here and we planned that we would plan the menu and then decide later where we should go - here or at the Woolleys. WELL - Ann left a message on my machine this morning saying that she had talked to Jean and the Weinerts want to have it at their home this time. That's fine with me. I'll just wait to get my food assignment and also the time we are supposed to meet. It will be fun to be with all of you again. I LOVE the Weinerts new basement!!!
Claire - thank you SO much for your sweet letter and those darling pictures. The one with the parrots will be perfect for your Christmas card. Your trip to Hawaii sounded fantastic and the scenery from the pictures looked so tropical and fun. I can't imagine Laura & Michael going scuba diving 40' under for an hour - that would scare me to death!!! The picture of them para sailing looked scary too. I'm SO glad you had a good time. How is your visiting teaching assignment coming? When I get released I am going to write a book about visiting teaching problems - it will be a best seller and I will be rich - Ha!!!
John and Julianna are doing good - I guess!!! I haven't seen them!!!
Roy & Patrice and their family are doing good - I guess!!! I haven't heard from them!!!
Jean & Rick and their family are doing good - I guess!!! I haven't heard from them!!!
GOTCHA!!!
I was in a little skit in the Orem Women's Club meeting last week. We dressed as artists and made palettes and pretended to paint a picture. Our theme for this years' program is "The More Colors The Prettier The Picture". I'm not responsible for a program because the one I wanted was Jan Shelton from Lehi who has a singing group - they couldn't leave school until 3 p.m. and our programs start at 1 p.m. Most of the committee members have lived in Orem all their lives and it wasn't hard for them to get programs. They asked me to introduce the "moody Sisters" for October 18th - that will be fun. Amanda Moody is Miss Utah and won the talent scholarship contest in the Miss America pageant. She is a piano player and her sister plays the violin and they will put on a program for us. I plan to go to their home before the 18th so I will know what they want me to say about them.
Our Homecoming meeting was on Thursday. We had a lady come from the Medical Center to talk about stress - her title was "You Can't Be Everything To Everyone". Our craft was decorating candles with fresh pressed flowers. We had 48 there as opposed to our morning meetings where our attendance averaged 26. I am very happy with the way our meetings are going so far.
Elaine has been transferred to a "Care Facility". Ann & I went to see her last week - at different times. She will be just fine in about a month but right now she is having a hard time. I plan to go see her tomorrow. Her daughter, Kim, was discharged from the hospital and put in a special unit at the state mental hospital here in Provo. That sounds much worse than it is - Ramona says she is in a nice room with other girls who have problems like she has. I just hope Elaine will keep her there rather than bring her back to live with her.
I went to Lehi one day last week to take flowers for Daddy's grave and I went by our old home there. you wouldn't even recognize it - they have had it re-shingled and siding put on in the same color blue like it was. It looks like a mansion and is beautiful - I felt a sharp pang of envy when I saw it. I would never have been happy there but they have surely improved it.
I'm having Family Home Evening here tonight. The group is SO "Food funny" that I am just going to get some "No-Guilt" ice cream and put sliced fresh peaches on top. I have some cookie batter left from last night and I'll bake some fresh cookies.
Don & Cheryl are taking me to Santaquin for dinner on Thursday.
