Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

It is September but it is still HOT AND HUMID!!! The last part of August and first part of September are the worst times of the year weatherwise for me. It won't be long until we get some cool days - I hope. The nights cool off and that's wonderful.

I probably shouldn't even complain about our heat when I think of the Arkansas summers. I talked to Joy the other night and she said it is still hot and very, very dry there - that is unusual and I hope your shrubbery doesn't die Roy & Patrice - she said you haven't had any rain for a long time.

Last Sunday I went up to Layton for Katie's piano recital and I had such a good time. Katie did a great job - she played 18 songs from memory - she announced each one from a piece of paper on the piano but she didn't use one bit of music - I WAS VERY IMPRESSED!!! She looked SO cute - she had invited her grandparents, her piano teacher and two little friends besides her family. Claire had fixed a delicious dinner and it was fun to be with Alice and Bob. Bob Ezell had surgery this week for a knee replacement and when it is time he is going to have the other one done too. I haven't talked to Claire or Bob this week so I don't know how he is doing but I hope everything is fine.

Bob & Claire and their children left on Saturday morning to go to Hawaii. I believe they said they will be gone 8 days. I hope they have a WONDERFUL time - I'll be excited to hear about it. Bob & Michael had a wonderful time on their wilderness scouting trip but is sounded mighty hard to me. They went to Durango, Colorado and said it was just beautiful and then they hiked in 30 miles with backpacks. They had some good pictures of places they camped and where they fished - they said some of the fly fishing was really good. I know what kind of an appetite Michael has and I can't imagine packing in enough food for him - Bob said they didn't even take a complete change of clothing because of the weight. I AM SO GLAD THEY DO THINGS LIKE THAT!!!

This has been a fun summer for everyone - I have surely gone on some fun and wonderful trips. Jeannie called this morning and invited me to go to the Park City Water Slide with them today - they said they thought it would be cooler in Park City. Their lives and also the Woolleys revolve around their children's working schedules - Ricky went to work at 6:30 this morning and has to work until noon so they couldn't leave until after that. He loves his work at the golf course and I'm SO proud of him. That is a job he has wanted for a long time and in the meantime he was working at Lagoon but he didn't love it all that much. Young people have to work - it doesn't matter what they do!!!

I stopped in at the Weinerts last Sunday on my way to Katie's recital. I wanted to see them and I also wanted to see their new furniture and their newly remodeled downstairs. WHAT A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THEIR HOME - I just love it!!! Barji was making cookies down in their new kitchen and they had their family room there all set up for a young women's fireside. Their new china cabinet and dining room table and cabinets are all very, very nice too. Ricky's bedroom is perfect for him and he loves it.

The Woolleys came over last night for Family Home Evening and we had such a wonderful visit. It was fun to hear about their school classes and activities. Susanna is in "OVERLOAD" - she is taking three advance placement or honors classes - History, Physiology and English - she's smart gal but that seems like a little too much to me with all her other activities. My neighbor's son plays football for Mountain View and she told me this morning that she saw Ann at their game with Timpview - I can just imagine how very busy that family is. They had a very sad thing happen in their neighborhood last week. They have a lovely woman across the street from them who was widowed about four or five years ago and she has ten children. They had a family reunion at her home last week and one of her sons and his family came from Oregon - on their way back to Oregon they had an accident and he was killed. Ann's neighborhood is doing some landscaping for her as a special remembrance.

The daughter of one of Ann's best friends (Marie Duncan) married one of Ron's cousins - I think that is so unusual - the young man is from California. Anyway, Ron's parents and sisters came for the wedding and reception so they have had a fun time together.

Roy and Patrice - I hope you're doing good and I know you are. I'll bet Timothy has started school by now and I hope Jesse is enjoying going to his nursery school for a couple days a week - Patrice needs that time for herself. I am VERY impressed with the school they go to. I want to hear about your school Emily - do you like having it in a trailer? I'll bet you love your teacher. I taught in a trailer when I lived there.

I have talked to John several times this week and they are doing fine. I know he could have killed me for the calls I made to him at work. I HAVE A NEW FURNACE. I have been unhappy with the heating system in my home since we moved here and decided to do something about it. I had four companies come and give bids and suggestions on what I should do and then I Steve Frisby, my home teacher who is also a builder, come and help me make the decision. They completely redid the furnace situation - I now have a larger furnace with a "ZONE" system and a thermostat in the downstairs as well as upstairs. I also had all the ducts cleaned out - I wanted John to come hear the noise it made - Ha!!! They got rocks, dirt, plastic bags, building stuff, etc. out of them. I now have air coming from the vent in John's closet - that was completely plugged up. I hope I'm not disappointed - I can even close the door going to the furnace.
