HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KATIE ON FRIDAY!!! I hope you have a REALLY happy day and I'll bet you have a party - I want to hear all about it. It doesn't seem possible that you and Emily are 7 years old.

I had a busy but happy week last week. Carol Braithwaite was in town for an eye doctor's appointment so I decided to have Daddy's sisters over for dinner on Wednesday. I was REALLY surprised they could all come but they all came. They are just the sweetest people in the world but they are also very funny - they have a difficult time keeping things straight. Their problem is their hearing so I have no business in making fun of them. They left here about 11:30 and about midnight, Ramona called to see if I could find her hearing aid - she had taken it out and couldn't remember where she had put it. Then a little bit later, Carol Ann called and said her Mother hadn't come home yet and she was worried about her - they don't like Carol to drive alone.

Elaine's daughter Kim had been in the hospital last week with a heart problem - they said it was a heart attack but I don't really believe it was. Kim has never been normal since she started taking drugs while she was in High School. They attached a pacemaker someway to try to stabilize her heart and she decided she didn't want it so she flushed it down the toilet. When I asked Elaine how she could take it out, she told me they hadn't really sewn it in - it was just placed on her chest.

Shirley seems more capable than the others. She and her husband have been living with his mother to care for her for the last four years - she celebrated her 95th birthday on Saturday.

The Orem Women's Club luncheon on Saturday was fun - especially because Ann & Jean and their girls came. Julianna couldn't come so I gave her ticket to my sister-in-law Cheryl and it was really fun to have her with us. We had planned to walk out my backyard so that's what we did but it was bitter cold. I thought the fashion show went too long.

After the fashion show, Ann & Jean went to Heber with me to attend the 50th wedding anniversary open house for some of my friends from our "Phoenix Days". I worked in the Primary with Opal Danley and she was crippled then (34 years ago) with arthritis and then in her Christmas letter she told about her husband, Dick, having had a stroke. I REALLY wanted to go and I'm so glad Ann & Jean would go with me. Dick didn't know me but Opal appreciated our coming and their children all remembered Ann & Jean. The cousins spent the day together at the Woolleys.

Claire - I talked to Ellen Mae and she said your Relief Society Convention was just wonderful so I'm glad you went to that.  I'm going to have to find out more about your special programs because our Stake doesn't do things like that.

Michael - I'm SO proud that you will be getting your Eagle Scout award soon. I will look forward to going to that soon after I return from Little Rock.

John came by for his mail this morning. He and Julianna are doing good - I don't believe Julianna was able to go to Phoenix as she had planned because of a special meeting at her school.

I have thought about Roy & Patrice and their children all week. The weather in Alabama sounded kinda' cool but I'm sure they still have had a good time. I would like it better kinda' cool than the hot weather they usually have.

I am really anxious to go to Little Rock this week - I hope I can remember to get all the things done that I need to here. I had hoped to groom the dogs and give them baths but it is just too cold. I have made them a new mattress but I won't change the way they are until I get back because of the weather. My neighbor, Jae Theobald, will take care of them.

The fruit farmers are REALLY worried about the cold weather. I heard on the news this morning that the apricot crop is probably damaged and if it gets any colder it will take the peaches too. They don't relax until after May 15th and it's too bad because this year everything is three weeks ahead of schedule. My daffodils haven't frozen but the snow wilted them. It has been a WONDERFUL year for the ski resorts.

Jeannie did talk her way out of her traffic ticket. She said the judge told her the police station never closes (that's where she had parked) and she reminded him that the sign in front of it said, hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and it was later than that when she parked there. If I ever get a ticket I am going to take Jeannie with me - Ha!!!

The Woolleys didn't come over last night - Ann said they had a lot of homework they needed to do. They wanted me to have Family Home Evening with them tonight and go to the "Soup Kitchen" to serve meals to the homeless. I can't do that because I promised I would take Vonnie to the doctor if her daughter couldn't come. I am proud of them for doing that.

I am going to my Family Home Evening tonight and I would prefer to stay home and watch the Academy Awards Ceremonies on television. I told the R. S. Presidency that this morning and they just gasped - they were astonished that I would want to watch the celebrities dressed so scantily - I don't even notice that. I am really interested in seeing how David Letterman is going to be as the M.C. Is that terribly wrong???
