Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:
WOW - we are having warm, warm weather and I'm getting spring fever. It is just beautiful but kinda' sad because the trees will start to bud and then we will have a killing frost!!! I trimmed the evergreen bushes in front of my house last week because they had grown over the sidewalk - Ann came later that night and she warned me that it was too soon to do that. My daffodils are coming up on the hill but they did that last year too and it didn't hurt them. I know we will have lots more winter but it's nice to have a reprieve from the cold.
The Woolleys came over last night for Family Home Evening and I enjoyed it SO much!!! Russell had made the refreshments and they were great - rice krispie treats with a peanut butter mixture instead of the marshmallow. Ann had the lesson and it was wonderful to see the children looking up scriptures and understanding them. Ron had an accident with his eye and it looks really bad - he somehow got his contact in sideways and it cut a part of his eye and it hemorrhaged. He is being treated by a doctor and he says it will heal okay but for now he is wearing glasses instead of contacts. They are all excited about their plans to go on a cruise during spring break - it is to Jamaica, Mexico and islands in between on the Princess Cruise Lines. I am going to put this in for my journal because I think it is so "family like". The girls have a contract with Ron to clean his office once a week for part of their spending money. WELL - they forgot to do it on Saturday which is their regular day so Ann told them they must do it on Sunday morning. Susanna felt like that was breaking the Sabbath so she wouldn't do it - Ann went with the other girls to clean it yesterday and she said they would just have to fire Susanna - Ha!!! Susanna couldn't come last night because she had a mutual camp meeting so she wasn't here to defend herself.
John and Julianna came by on Saturday morning just to say "HI". They were on their way to Salt Lake to go to the Zoo. I thought that sounded like so much fun and it was a beautiful day. Julianna is loving her teaching job - she said she would be "off track" in a week for three weeks and she was happy about that so she could work on her thesis. John said he is "behind" in his class work for his MBA so they are busy, busy, busy!!!
Jean and Rick had such a sad experience this past week. Some of their dearest friends, Wayne & Sue Snow, have a son who had been serving a mission in Brazil. He was killed in a bus accident and of course they are all heart broken. I talked to Jeannie last night and she said they would bring his body home today and the funeral will be Wednesday. There were four people killed in the bus but his companion didn't even receive a scratch. Jeannie said last night that one of Wayne's big concerns was how it would affect the young people in their area. He was such a fine young many and had many friends - Wayne & Ben and Rick & Ricky have gone on many camping trips together.
I haven't heard from the Bob or Roy Mellors this week. I had a phone call from my friend, Joy Geisler, in Little Rock and she has been in the hospital and Roy has been her anesthesiologist. Roy - thank you for being so sweet to her!!! She just couldn't say enough good things about you. She will probably have to go back in for more surgery and she is hoping she will have you again. Joy is different but she has had a very difficult life.
I must tell you about going to lunch with my luncheon club a couple weeks ago. The UVSC has a culinary arts program and they have restored an old home on campus that was built in the late 1800's. The students prepare all the food and they serve it in this old home. They have the same menu for three weeks and you have to make reservations and it is so unique and fun. The students all wear the large chef hats and the customers grade them so they try to do everything perfectly. They serve appetizers first: stuffed mushrooms, cream cheese & salmon mixture on cucumber slices with caviar on top, and a pepper mold. I had a delicious green salad, London broil, rice, carrots, wheat rolls and cheese cake with raspberry sauce.
I was on the committee for the Orem Women's Club Winter Social last week - we had the luncheon at Magelbys and we made little Valentine favors that were really cute. My friend Kay Ballard has a son who performs professionally and he put on the program ªI couldn't believe how good he is - he plays the piano and sings.
I went to a wedding reception on Friday night for my neighbor. It was held in the rotunda of the Provo Capitol Building - it was very nice but I much prefer the receptions that are held in the homes.
My counselors will be here in a few minutes so I will close. We have made little Valentines for each sister in our ward and they need to have ribbon put on them - we will each only have to do 30 and then deliver them. We are also planning our Birthday Celebration for March - busy, busy, busy.
The Orem Women's Club annual fashion show and luncheon will be held on March 25th at noon. I would like to invite; Claire, Laura, Katie, Jean, Barji, Mary Ann, Sarah, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, LeeAnna and Julianna to come for it. I will reserve one table for us if you can come. THE TICKETS ARE $10 AND IT WILL BE MY TREAT BUT I DON'T WANT TO RESERVE THEM IF YOU CAN'T COME. Please let me know as soon as you can. It is on the campus of UVSC and the food is good and it's just fun to be with you.
I meant the year 2002 in my last letter - Ha!!!
