CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL!!! Michael has passed all the requirements to receive his Eagle Scout Award. I couldn't believe it when he called me last night - I didn't know he was that close. He said they won't have his Court of Honor for a couple months because of the paper work that has to be done and also there may be some other young men who will be eligible. I am SO proud of you Michael!!!
We have had snow, snow and more snow this past week. It has been a REALLY funny week - it was so warm and sunny last Friday that I worked out on the hill and then it has snowed constantly since then. I love to have it snow - we need the moisture and it looks so clean and pretty. There are children out on the hill in back of me sledding today and it's fun to watch.
Patrice - thank you for your phone call - I love visiting with you and I know we talk too long. I had a letter from Chris Jordin last week and she told me how she had run into Patrice and Timothy and Jesse at the store - she said she saw Timothy first and she thought to herself "that has to be a Mellor"!!! He really looks so much like Roy. Jessie was telling me that the little boy in the movie "Santa Clause" reminds her of Timothy - I haven't seen that movie but Timothy reminds me of so many of the little boys they use in commercials. I asked Patrice which one of the older children Jesse was more like and she said Jesse wasn't like anyone in their family - Ha!!! I didn't know he was walking but Patrice said he started to walk on his 1st birthday.
Emily had been to a "sleepover" - she hadn't had much sleep and Patrice was thinking she was too young for that.
Ann, Jessie and LeeAnna came over for Family Home Evening last night. It is REALLY hard for them to do that now because their meeting schedule is in the afternoon. It was fun to get caught up on their activities. Susanna had been to the Preference Ball at Timpview and it was fun to hear about her dress and the things they did. Jessie was at the Preference Ball too - she can't date yet but all the cheerleaders have to serve the refreshments. LeeAnna brought her "Yo-Yo" with her and it's amazing to me to see her be able to do that - I have had one in my playroom for a long time and I don't remember anyone being coordinated enough to get it to work.
John called me one day last week when he came home from Las Vegas. He said it was good to go to those trade shows because they become acquainted with the people they talk to on the phone all the time. He was leaving for Burbank, Cal. the next day and I haven't heard from him since. I KNOW they are busy!!!
I haven't heard from the Weinerts this week. They have been involved in the Bountiful Temple Dedication like the Bob Mellors have. We heard yesterday in our Stake Conference that Orem will be assigned to the new temple being built in American Fork. I am excited about that because we will be able to go to the dedication and the other things that are involved with that. It won't be finished until late this year though. The people in Vernal will have a temple built from one of their chapels - it will be very small but adequate for their membership in that area. When Daddy & I worked in the Provo temple we met SO many workers from Vernal - they would come to Provo and spend several nights and then go home.
There has really been a lot of illness in our ward. I hope all of you are staying well. I need to find some good soup recipes to take to people. I took one of those bisquick ham quiches to a family - it spilled in the oven so the oven smoked and I know it wasn't very good. THEN I took Susanna's cake to another family and I couldn't find her recipe so I tried to make it from memory and I believe I added too much water to the
Jell-O. One of my counselors has a good bean soup recipe that she takes to people and they just love it.
Do any of you remember Dick Richards? He was Mission President in the Arkansas Mission when Daddy was Stake President and we had
a lot to do with them. Their son Mark was a friend of yours Roy. Dick died on Saturday - I am going to his funeral tomorrow. I was surprised to read in his obituary that he was Daddy's age - he seemed SO much older to me. They live in Provo and he has had health problems for quite a long time.
We are having our homemaking meeting tomorrow night. My counselor who is in charge of homemaking won't be there - she and her husband have a time share in some condominiums in St. George and they are going there. I am nervous about the meeting - a young woman wants to teach aerobics and
no one signed up. We have a number of activities lined up - cooking demonstrations, knitting and quilting - I just hope the sisters will come.
I have to give the "Litany" in the Orem Women's Club on Wednesday. They don't have prayer so they have different people assigned to give inspirational messages. A former Utah Senator, Arthur Watkins, is the guest speaker.
Roy - I hope you have had a fun "back packing" weekend!!! Roy and some of his friends from High School have this annual back packing trip and I think it's WONDERFUL!!! Patrice said the bean soup turned out and Roy took some of it with him - I still can't imagine how you could dry it. Where did you go?
Bob is going to take Michael and maybe Brett on a fishing trip this Friday. He said he would probably go to the Green River. My brother, Don, called me last week and said he had been fishing in the Provo river and had caught some nice trout.
