I'm going to try to write a short letter so I won't have to catch up after Christmas. I didn't write yesterday because I didn't have time. I went up to Farmington on Sunday afternoon to spend the night with the Weinert children because Jean & Rick went to Denver to attend Rick's company Christmas party. I came home yesterday in time for our R. S. Presidency meeting at 1 o'clock and there wasn't time to write before the mail man came.
I left Farmington early enough to stop at Lens Crafters so they could adjust my new glasses - I bumped into a door and they haven't fit since. I waited for almost 45 minutes and when it was my turn, the girl said she was in training and couldn't help me - I was angry and left!!! The traffic around the Fashion Place Mall is ridiculous - I won't go back until after the holidays.
I wanted to write today to mainly congratulate Michael for making the HIGH HONOR ROLL. I am very proud of you Michael and hope you will keep up doing your very best. I had to laugh - when I asked him what his favorite subject was, he said P.E.
I got to Farmington about 4:30 on Sunday and went to get Ricky, Barji, Mary Ann & Sarah and they went with me to deliver the Bob Mellors' Christmas present. When we got to their home there were a lot of people there - a lady in their ward had fallen and cut her eyelid and they had gone to Bob for help - her husband and other relatives were with her. Bob couldn't visit with us for very long because he had to go to the hospital to stitch up her cut and to also remove a penny that was lodged in a child's throat. I can't help but have a lot of respect for Bob and Roy and other doctors - they are always on the "hot seat". In my church calling I have to listen to a lot of complaints but I don't have the degree of responsibility they do. It was fun to see them even though it wasn't for very long - their home is so beautiful and already for Christmas.
I enjoyed being with the Weinerts. Their ward put on a Christmas pageant the night I got there. Sarah was dressed as an angel and the other children were spectators. I have NEVER seen a more beautiful pageant. It was held in the backyard of one of their neighbor's home. It started to snow just as we left to go to fit and I mean snow - the heavens opened up and it REALLY SNOWED. The children in the pageant just got soaking wet but they didn't seem to mind. Their costumes were beautiful and they had a stable, manger, etc. and the sound system was just wonderful. Besides all the preparation for the pageant they served hot chocolate and candy canes - I WAS VERY IMPRESSED!!!
I know you all have had a lot of Christmas parties and activities. It is fun but I will be happy to have some of them over. Tonight is our ward Christmas party and we are in charge of decorating the tables. They came over and cut a lot of the branches from my shrubs and trees and last night they came over to borrow one of those OLD trunks I have downstairs - the theme is "The Turn Of The Century Christmas". We had assigned 30 sisters to make cakes and one of them called me this morning saying she was too ill so I have just finished making her cake.
Our R. S. Christmas dinner and party last week was JUST WONDERFUL. We served a ham,
potato, vegetable and dessert dinner to over 100. It snowed and snowed that day and I shoveled all the walks in front of the church side where our party was and I was very tired!!! The Bishop came over just before the party was over and used his snow blower to remove the fresh snow that had fallen after the party started.
Cissy Beyers called me this morning. I believe they wanted to come over today but I told her I had too many things going on - I hope they will come over in a couple days. They are visiting Shaun for Christmas but will go back to Hot Springs on the 29th.
John & Julianna have been in Phoenix to spend a few days with her parents and sister and brother-in-law and their family. I believe they are coming back today. Julianna has been ill for quite awhile and when I saw John the day before they left he said he didn't feel very good. I hope they have both been well and have had a good time.
I am looking forward to our family Christmas get togethers this weekend. We will be at the Woolleys Saturday afternoon and evening and at my home on Christmas day.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EACH ONE OF YOU. TRY TO NOT MAKE IT A STRESSFUL TIME.
I love each one of you so very much. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN EVERYTHING YOU DO AND LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP YOU.
