HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEXT Sunday BOB!!! Will this be the big "40th"? I have in my records that you were born in 1954 so there is no denying it. It's hard for me to believe I have such old children. I hope you have a REALLY HAPPY DAY. I hear that you are going to go to Mexico again in a couple weeks - I'm very proud of you and I know the patients you saw the last time are looking
forward to having you make a return visit.
I have heard from each one of you this week and that always makes me happy. This has been such a traumatic week for people around here - a young 17 year old man shot and killed his stepmother and sister in a small town right at the point of the mountain - they finally caught him in Nebraska - a young couple was hit and killed by a train in a town just a little South of Provo - and then that terrible tragedy in South Carolina. I kinda' felt like the sky was falling in so I was happy to hear from you.
Laura - thank you so very much for your sweet letter. You have such good penmanship and your writing was very, very neat. I'm sorry you have been ill and I hope you are feeling better by now. I had to laugh at your letter where you had written that you had awakened your Dad to tell him you were sick and he told you to go back to bed and you would feel better. That's what you get for having a Dad who deals with sick people day in and day out - Ha!!
Claire, thanks for your phone call. I think it is WONDERFUL that you are taking up quilting. I love that sort of thing but it is difficult for me to learn how. I'm anxious to learn more about what you are doing (she belongs to a quilting group).
Roy - thanks for your phone call too. You sound SO different with my new amplified handset and so do your children. I have a hard time understanding some of my grandchildren over the phone but with this new phone it is much easier. I am thrilled that you take your children to the children's theatre in Little Rock - (they had been to see Tom Sawyer and Timothy was SO excited to tell me about it). I said, "Did you see the movie?" and Timothy said, "No, Grandma B, it was a play". He also told me his teachers' names - Miss Vicky and DeDe (?). I don't have problems hearing Emily - she is always so exuberant and it's so much fun to talk to her. She was REALLY excited to tell me that Grandma Suzie is moving to Little Rock - I think that's GREAT!!!
The Woolleys came over for Family Home Evening while I was still talking to Timothy so Roy had a longer phone call than he bargained for - the children all wanted to talk to them. We had a really good lesson last night - we watched another video and this one was on the New Testament. Ann always has each one write down questions about it while we are watching it and then we answer them. Ann has been bringing me food to have the next day and it is WONDERFUL - I don't know who taught her to cook but it surely wasn't me - she is a ten times better cook than I am. I don't want her to do that anymore though because I feel guilty knowing how many there are in her family to feed. She also brought homemade applesauce last night that was heavenly.
Jeannie - thank you for your phone call too. I'm looking forward to being with your children this week - I'll be there on Wednesday by 2 o'clock. I plan to bring them home with me on Friday because I have to be to a meeting on Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. I'll take them back to Farmington on Saturday afternoon if Mary Ann has a Nutcracker practice that afternoon - if she doesn't have one I will have them stay with me and take them home on Sunday afternoon. I hope Jeannie & Rick will have a marvelous time in the St. Thomas Islands and I hope they WON'T WORRY!!!
John - it was good to see you even if it were for just one minute. I was backing out of my driveway on Saturday night just as he pulled up in front of the house. I was on my way to a singles party. A lady in our ward organized get togethers for the women who are alone - we can't call it a widow's group because there are two women in it who are divorced. We get together to play games and visit and have refreshments - it's kinda' like being in a resthome because most of the women are quite a bit older than I am but it's fun. I am busier than most of them but they support me in everything I do so it's important that I support them too. John had stopped by to check on his mail - he said that Julianna & he were doing fine.
I had my hair cut really short last week and Ann gave me a permanent. The lady who cuts it is going to color it tomorrow and I'm anxious to see how it will look. I have been trying to go lighter and so far it hasn't looked too much different but it will tomorrow because most of the color is gone.
Tomorrow is the big election day. That is always exciting to me now because I have time to read about the candidates and I watch television more than I ever did. I was hoping that Mitt Romney who is a Mormon would defeat Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts but it doesn't look like he will. Roy - do you remember the time you drove George Romney (Mitt's father) from the Stake Center in Jacksonville and was attending our Stake Conference when Daddy was Stake President.
We are making all kinds of plans for the Relief Society during the next month and I get dizzy even thinking about it.
The Woolleys are going to Jerome for Thanksgiving. I know some of you will have already made your plans but if you haven't and would like to come to my home I will love to fix dinner!!!
