Dearest John & Julianna; Roy, Patrice, Emily, Timothy & Jesse; Bob, Claire, Michael, Laura, Brett & Katie; Rick, Jean, Ricky, Barbara Jean, Mary Ann & Sarah; and Ron, Ann, Susanna, Jessie, Russell, LeeAnna & Jimmy:

HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY TO SUSANNA TODAY!!! I have thought about Susanna all morning - her Dad took her to take her driver's test this morning!!! The plan was that if she passed her test she was going to go home and get their Subaru and take it to school. She was SO excited last night when they were here but she was worried that she might not pass it. I haven't heard but I feel sure she passed it. She was also excited because they had bought new floor mats and cleaned up the Subaru and that was going to be her car. Susanna is a really good driver and I know how much this is going to help Ann with all the carpooling she has to do.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ROY AND PATRICE TOMORROW!!! This is really birthday time in our family and next week will be Jesse's birthday. I hope Roy & Patrice will have a special day today - it is SO neat for them to have their birthdays on the same day - they will never forget each other's birthday. I wanted to call and wish Timothy Happy Birthday yesterday but by the time I got my phone fixed it was the wrong time to call Little Rock.

I must tell you about my phone problems!!! I decided to clean the hand set part of it and sprayed it with 409 and scrubbed it good. WELL - when people would call me they said they couldn't hear me. I waited for three days to let it dry good and when it still wouldn't work, I went to the phone center to buy a new hand set. They said the only kind of hand sets they sold separately from the whole phone were the amplifier kind. I finally decided towards the end of the week to go ahead and buy that amplifier kind. When I went to get it the clerk told me she thought it was foolish to buy just that when for a little bit more money I could buy a complete new phone. SO, that's what I did. It took me the better part of an entire day to install it and even then I couldn't get it anchored on the wall quite right. I was proud of myself for being able to figure out the directions for hooking up the answering machine to it.

John came home in the meantime and helped me anchor it better to the wall but I just had a very short cord on it. I went to take it into the kitchen to write something down and tore the entire phone off the wall and disconnected the answering service and everything. I went to the store and got a longer cord but I still couldn't get it fixed right because one of the wires form the answering machine had come apart. John came over yesterday and put it all back together again for me and for the first time in about six days I finally have a phone and answering machine that work. John took one of the wires from my old phone to make that work. I feel bad because my old phone was working perfectly until I washed it and they won't just sell the handset part!!!

Yesterday morning when I went out to get in the car to go to church my battery was dead. I was in a hurry so I called my neighbor, Adrian Fredericks, for a ride with his family. He was SO nice and came over last night and got the battery out of my car of recharge it. He came over later and said it wouldn't take a charge and I would have to get a new one. SO he went to Sears this morning and got a new one for me and put it in. John said he would have done that and I know he would but Adrian had already said he would. I hate to admit it but I didn't even know how to open the hood - Adrian promised me he wouldn't tell anyone that. I am SO glad the battery didn't go out on me when I was away from home.

Jeannie - thank you for your long letter - that was a nice surprise!!! She wanted me to tell things in my letter that might be of interest to some of you. THE NUTCRACKER BALLET TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE SOON AND JEANNIE WILL ORDER SOME FOR ANY OF YOU WHO WOULD LIKE TO GO. She wanted me to emphasize that she didn't want any of you to feel obligated to go but she would be happy to get tickets for those of you who did. I will be going from this part of Utah and will be happy to take any "cousins" who would like to go with me if their parents can't go. Jeannie said she had a difficult time getting in touch with John & Julianna and also Claire so consider this your special invitation. JEANNIE NEEDS TO KNOW BY NOVEMBER 6th. She will try to get tickets for a Saturday performance when Mary Ann performs.

Jeannie, I am excited about going to the open house for the Bountiful Temple on December 16th and appreciate your getting tickets to go with you and your family - I have it on my calendar. Ann said she is going with the Young Women in their ward and will be able to take Russell also - I don't know when they will be going. I hope all of you will be able to go to this before it is dedicated and closed to the public. I wish Roy & Patrice and their family could go through it. Maybe they will be here when the American Fork temple has their open house.

Jeannie - I will love to stay with your children while you and Rick go to the St. Thomas Islands. There are some Relief Society things I will need to attend during that time so I will commute some of the days. I will plan to be at your home on Nov. 8th by 3 p.m. I will talk to you and get details later.

Ellen Mae & Mel took Ida and me up to Heber to see the Fall Leaves and then we had lunch at Grannies. We just had a marvelous time and after a week of rain, the weather was beautiful. It was fun to visit with them. I took them past Earl's place up in Sundance and was surprised to see a "For Sale" sign on it. It looks like Disneyland - out of place up there.

We had 67 Sisters at our Homemaking Meeting last Thursday - the largest group they have ever had here. It was WONDERFUL!!! The cannelonis turned out so good but they are filled with cholesterol - times have changed, especially in the way I cook.
