HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RICK THIS COMING SUNDAY!!! I know you will have a happy day with your birthday falling on a Sunday - you'll probably have time to really celebrate - Ha!!!

We just finished with our Presidency meeting - I don't like for them to last very long but it seems like we ALWAYS have so much to discuss and plan. We will have our first homemaking meeting tomorrow after a couple months vacation - we passed around a paper for the sisters to sign if they plan to attend and there were only thirty who signed up. We are going to have a lady come and demonstrate how to use our food storage - she has written a cookbook and she is supposed to be very knowledgeable.

We are considering changing our homemaking meetings to the evenings. We have 42 sisters who work outside the home and at least half of them would support a night Relief Society. There are lots of problems to work out like older children in families who would be attending Mutual and couldn't babysit. There will always be sisters who won't attend no matter when we have it. We're going to make up a questionnaire and have a survey to see if it would be worthwhile anyway. We had our Visiting Teaching Interviews last Saturday from 8 'til noon and we had good support for that.

Ann & I had a fun time on Saturday evening. Do any of you remember Jim and Mary Nance from Hot Springs, Arkansas? They were very good friends of ours and their children were good friends of ours and their children were good friends of Ann. Jim & Mary moved to Carson City, Nevada and lived there for a long time but they have recently moved to Salt Lake. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary and their children hosted an open house for them. One of their daughters doesn't live very far from where I do and the open house was at her home. It was just WONDERFUL to see Jim and Mary again - Mary has aged (women always do) but Jim looks just the same. Their children were THRILLED to see Ann and they had so much to talk about. Usually Ann is tugging at my elbow to get me to leave things like that but she enjoyed visiting so much that it was hard to get her to leave. THEN when we went out to the car to leave some more friends came (Jim Lacy and his wife) so we even visited longer. They had WONDERFUL food and they served outside on their lawn - it was beautiful!!!

One of the Nance's daughters (Laura) lives in Spanish Fork Canyon and I am going to go see her because Daddy & I have been SO interested in the area where she lives. Do you remember that beautiful pink rambler that was just built at the foot of the hill? Her home is just up that hill.

I took Hans and Frauie in for their annual checkups and the vet said, "Wow, they have been to the beauty parlor". When I told him that John always grooms them he was very impressed. He REALLY does a good job and they are so pretty when they are well groomed. The dogs are in good health and I'm always relieved when they have their shots.

I haven't heard from any of you this week with the exception of the Woolleys. They came over for Family Home Evening last night and LeeAnna gave such a good lesson - she was VERY well prepared with her lesson which was on reverence. Ron wasn't with them - he had to leave early yesterday afternoon to go out of town. It was SO neat to go out to the car with them and see Susanna get in the driver's seat - she does a lot of the driving now. She will be able to get her license the last of October and that will be such a big help to Ann. They have bought a new car but it is in the shop getting leather seats so they won't have it for a couple weeks.

Our "used to be Uncle and brother-in-law", Earl Miller, has surely received a big honor. He has been inducted into the INTERNATIONAL SKI HALL OF FAME. There was a full page honoring him in the local newspaper with a picture of him and also a formal picture of him doing one of his stunt ski jumps. I guess he is still legally related to us but he and Elaine have been separated for years.

We are still having REALLY hot weather. Chris Jordin called me last night and she said the weather in Little Rock has been just beautiful. I hope so much that it was pretty when Suzie was there visiting with the Roy Mellors and I hope she had a great time - I know the children and Roy & Patrice would love having her there.

Ann & Ron are getting excited about their trip to Europe. They will leave next Sunday and will be gone until the 28th. I'm looking forward to being with their family - the only thing I'm worried about is preparing food they will like. I dreamed last night that all I fixed were "Bars" - potato bars, salad bars, sandwich bars, etc. That might be a good idea!!!

Linda Smithers Hill is going to come see me this Friday with her new husband. I was hoping to get some of our friends together for lunch but Dianne can't come from California, Helena can't come and Nicole works. It will be fun anyway and maybe later in the year we will be able to get together.

I can't think of any more news. I must go out and deliver 30 flyers for homemaking meeting tomorrow. David Taylor just came by to visit for a few minutes - he's such a good friend. Their baby is due anytime!!! When I went out to tell him goodbye I was surprised - our weather is cooling off!!!
