It's the end of the Memorial Day Weekend - it's dark outside and I was wondering why I had some free time when I suddenly realized I hadn't written my letter today!!! This has been a fun weekend for me and I hope it has for all of you too.
I have been having some REAL problems with my ears - I wish I knew the medical term for it but since I don't I will just have to say I needed to have the wax removed. It's the funniest feeling - kinda' like coming down from a high elevation and expecting my ears to "pop" and not having them do it. I called Bob and he said he would be happy to help me on Friday afternoon. I decided to go to Brigham City from Layton and decorate my familys' graves rather than make another trip the next day or today. I called Jeannie and she said she and her girls would go with me since Rick & Ricky were on a camping trip.
Bob - I REALLY appreciate your help and it was so much fun to visit with you & Claire and your family. I NEEDED THAT VISIT!!! Laura - I love your new bed and I'll bet you don't want to get up in the mornings - it felt SO comfortable.
We left Jeannie's home about 6 o'clock and it was raining a little bit but the further we drove the worse it got and the weather was very scary - Jeannie told me later that it did a lot of damage in their area. By the time we got to Brigham City it was raining but the wind had stopped blowing so we left our plants on the graves. Then we went by to visit with Dee and Judy and that was fun. Dee is retiring after teaching in the Box Elder School District for 26 years and they had honored him in a special assembly at school that day. They gave him a "huge" picture of himself all framed, a Baron Woolen Mills blanket that was inscribed and also a clock - I could tell he was really proud. They were taking care of one of their granddaughters because her parents had gone camping. Judy is very "crafty" and their home is filled with her homemade quilts, rugs, etc., etc.
On the way home we stopped by "Sub Way Sandwiches" and got sandwiches to eat. I am really happy to know about that because I have never had one and they are delicious. I have had "Hoagies" and these are very similar - they have a Sub Way Fast Food place in Lehi now and it will be fun to get one of those instead of a hamburger.
I didn't get home until after 10 o'clock and the young men had been here to mow my lawn but the wind had blown so hard that my yard was filled with limbs and other debris from the trees - I can't believe all the "stuff" that keeps falling.
Saturday morning I went to Lehi early to pick up a beautiful carnation wreath to put on an easel by Daddy's grave. Annie had taken some chrysanthemums so it looked pretty. I got more plants and then took some roses and iris and also an American Flag. Jeannie came yesterday with more roses and carnations and David Taylor put up the "missionary flag" so it REALLY looked nice.
Sunday afternoon Jeannie and her girls met me at the cemetery so we could water everything and then they came home with me and spent the night - that was really a treat!!! We played "Rummikub" and had lots of fun. This morning, Monday, I was awakened by dogs barking and I got up to see if my dogs were out and Jeannie and her girls were on my hill "weeding" - it was the Theobald's dogs barking at them. They wanted to surprise me and by the time I saw them, they had the hill weeded - WONDERFUL!!!
While we were outside, here came Annie. I about died when I saw her - her face was swollen and she had black and blue marks around her eyes. They had been to Lake Powell and she was in the skiing boat with Ron and they were skiing Russell when they hit a big wave and she became airborne and landed on the windshield of the boat right on her face. She was worried that something was broken so she and Susanna, Jessie and LeeAnna came home last night. She called Bob as soon as she got home and he said it would be better if she could go let him look at her as soon as she could rather than wait until morning. He said she shouldn't drive up there alone so she and LeeAnna went to Layton late last night and she said that Bob worked on her face until after midnight. He said nothing was broken but he had to take stitches in her face where the nose clamps of her sunglasses had torn into her face. She and LeeAnna stayed up with the Bob Mellors last night and then came home this morning. Ron, Russell, Jimmy and Ron's family were supposed to come home this afternoon.
Susanna & Jessie will leave for Europe tomorrow. They will be gone about a month - I HOPE THEY HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!
Ron took me up to the cabin last Monday and he fixed the broken pipe. Bob had given him such clear directions on what needed to be fixed that Ron got all the things he needed and he had it done within five minutes. I couldn't believe it!!! I am anxious to go up there and stay for a couple days and hope to be able to later on this week. June is going to be a busy Relief Society Month and then July & August we won't have any meetings so maybe I'll be able to spend more time at the cabin.
John comes over occasionally but I haven't seen Julianna for a long time. John mentioned that they may go to the cabin over the Memorial Day Weekend - I don't know if they did or not.
President Benson died this afternoon. I hadn't heard that he had taken a turn for the worst so it was a surprise - kinda'!!! I guess Howard W. Hunter will be President now and he is REALLY old and not in good health.
